I kinda wish that Chrono Trigger was FF7 instead of FF7 being FF7. Maybe that means that Chrono Cross wouldn’t have happened WHY DOES EVERYTHING LEAD BACK TO CHRONO CROSS I’M TRYING TO FORGET IT.
What I HOPE I get out of all of the FF13 titles (or any future Square game for that matter): fun, un-convoluted gameplay, and good storytelling on par with at LEAST FF4 and 10 (if it climbed to the level of FF6 or Tactics, even better).
What I EXPECT to see out of the titles: pretty people who are pretty shallow.
I own at least one version of every FF from 6 onwards (yes even 11, the worst game ever made), 4, Tactics (original and remake), and have played just about every other one (numbered or otherwise) ever made, and I think 13 is the first one in a long time that I’m just going to skip. Unless is fails to meet my expectations, and instead starts to satisfy my hopes…
What I will get, though, is the soundtrack. I’m partial to the soundtracks of 4, 6, 10, and Tactics, but I can’t think of a single FF soundtrack that isn’t full of great tracks (more orchestral stuff over synth needed, though).
More terrible than FF7? That’s a tough one to pull off. If that whole “detective tracking the main characters who blew up Midgar” thing is actually true, that might’ve been better than “emo with selective memory fights slightly more handsome emo with plenty of unnecessarily ambiguous elements that fans think of as ‘interpretive storytelling’.”
Yeah, even worse than FF7.

I’m not a big fan of the FF 11 and 12 soundtracks. But I loved 4, 6, 10, heck even 10-2 had a couple of good tracks.

I seriously doubt that, considering that some of my bowel movements have more compelling narrative and more challenging gameplay than FF7, but whatever.
The only parts of FF7 that are filled with excellence are some of its score and beating Emerald Weapon before it ever pulled off its third action, and the latter is questionable.
Oh, and Barret. That dude deserved way more of a slice of the pie than he got. You could dig up his severed hand and it would be a more compelling character than Cloud Strife.

I don’t find anything spectacular about FF7 other than some of the characters and a portion of its score. That doesn’t somehow change FF7’s view in your eyes. Unless it does, in which case it’s no longer my problem. This is a Final Fantasy thread. It isn’t the “Post why you think Final Fantasy is awesome in every way” thread.

My favorite installment of the series is Final Fantasy X-2. I’m not kidding or trolling or anything. I love it to bits.

Gameplay was amazing. One of the best FFs in terms of that. BUT the story blew and for guys (me), it felt like a guilty pleasure along the lines of watching softcore porn every time I played it. I had a lot of fun playing it, but when I beat it, I just sold that shit. Didn’t see it as a huge contribution to the franchise and I didn’t see myself playing it ever again.
