The Final Fantasy Thread 2.0 | FFXV: OUT NOW! It Really Did Exist

my first rpg was dq1 on the nes…

anyways, i stopped playing RPGs for the entire snes generation, and most of the psx generation. i got back into them around ffx, so i am now just going back and playing ff4, ff6, and chrono trigger for the first time…i played ff7 and beat it when it came out on the pc - i didn’t own my first psx until like 2000…

i’m working backwards right now, i’m going through ff6, then i’ll hit ff4 and finally ct. i wanna devote the most amount of time to ct considering it’s varying outcomes…

Yeah I completely agree. I liked having the Active Time Battle system as opposed to the slower Conditional Turn-based Battle system in FFX. I also liked the non-linear aspect of X-2. Lots more sidequests, completion percentages and multiple endings depending on your percentage.

In FFX your characters were set with a white mage, black mage, thief/alchemist, warrior, samurai, and whatever Wakka is. Kimahri was basically an extra who could go any route. In FFX-2 you had gunner, thief, warrior, songstress, black mage, white mage, gun mage, lady luck, trainer, alchemist, berserker, samurai, dark knight, and mascot roles. There was a lot more options in setting up your team and you could experiment a lot more than with FFX.

I agree that the music as well as the story in FFX exceeded FFX-2.

Wyrmhero Blade has huge combo potential, and even more so with Genji Glove, however, it is just way too slow even with haste and cat-ear hood. Better to keep the Genji-glove with the Masamune. Wyrmhero blade was pretty useless IMO. Zodiac spear and Tournesol are much more practical weapons.

Hahaha yeah dude. Another thing that made FF6 special for me was that I didn’t buy a lot of EGM/Gamepro, and obviously there was no internet back then. I didn’t have a walkthrough or guide to any secrets. Every time I discovered a secret of some sort, it felt like I was the only person who ever discovered it. Figuring out the clock code for Chain Saw, Cyan’s Soul was a total fluke, even little things like finding magicite here and there.

i personally didnt like how ff12 was, my little brother completed the game instead. i dont know if its the battle system or the fact it felt a bit like playing dot hack. whats the point of playing an rpg if its made like an mmorpg? mmorpg’s are made the way they are because of the amount of people playing it. it mixes real time and turn based in the most non-deluding fashion, the only thing that keeps me playing is the thought of how cool it is to fight along side people

as for FFX i love the religious aspects of the game, but FF9 did also have religious aspects in it (although not so obvious) and so did FF7

FFX-2 had a fun battle system.

my thoughts on FF13 games are; im looking forward to the battle system in versus and finding out the reason they want lightning to look like cloud in FF13.

I think they need to start bringing main characters that are indian/african into the FF series, im really tired of anime/games focusing on oriental/caucasians in their stories, no wonder nothings original anymore

Funny thing is, I have fond memories of FFVI when I was little and playing it on my SNES, but I can’t stand that game. Looking back I realized that all the good memories were gameplay (like how nice the game looked, flying the mode 7 airship, sidequests, etc.) or music oriented. I hate the story, and was indifferent towards or flat out disliked most of the characters (especially Terra).

FFIV for me was what FFVI was for most (American, Japan likes IV way better) people. THE old-school FF. The one you remember forever. And it’s still one of my favorites.

wow, I’m the complete opposite on VI. I have fond memories of FFVI when I was a kid, and I have fond memores playing it last year on GBA. its still my favorite game ever. I love the story and flat out loved the characters (especially celes). FFVI wasn’t my first FF, nor first RPG (that was FFI on NES, followed by DWIV),

about having too many characters: I think FFVI did one of the best jobs at having a large playable cast. chrono cross’s cast was too huge. VII and VIII had people that you just didn’t care about in the long run. VI made sure everyone (short of mog and umaro… and even mog played a pretty big part) had a significant part of the story. my favorite part about VI… and that no other FF has really done to my knowledge… is have more than one main “hero” to the story. first half its arguably terra, second half is arguably celes. and even then you could make the case for locke, being the plucky treasure hunter he is.

anyway, long story short - I hope the FFIII/IVDS team skips FFV and remakes VI.

Now see, I actually did like Celes. She went from being bitchy and annoying in the first half to manning (or in her case, womanning) the fuck up and doing what needed to be done, and becoming a nicer, better person in the process because she didn’t have to pretend to be hard anymore. Unlike the bitch-assed, cowardly, whiny, self-serving “me me me” cow that is Terra. Terra reminds me of Fei in the beginning of Xenogears, only Fei manned up MUCH sooner.

celes attempted suicide.

that blew my mind when I was in 6th grade.

Well, not if you get the good fish for Cid.

I’m a FF IV fan though and through, and I infinitely perfer it to FFVI. Yeah, I love FF6’s characters and storyline, but as a game it just wasn’t very challenging. When you get to the point where you start to face real challenges, everyone becomes the same person(thanks to Materia) and all of the strategy goes out of the window. In FF4 everyone has a defined role and a certain way you had to use them which made the game fun.

This is kind of the reason why I really like FFX. While you can overlevel your people and have them do the same types of things, they are better suited in their predefined roles.

Just came into this thread to give a hearty fuck you to Yiazmat. Whoever thought that’d be a fun idea to give a boss that nauseating amount of health without a way to break the damage cap needs to be pruned. Yiazmat’s not even hard imo even when you get to the point he’s berserking and taking less damage, he’s just tedious, and whoopty doo for the Wyrmhero blade that you don’t even get until you’ve whacked the only bosses it would’ve meant a damn against. ;p

First Final Fantasy games I ever played were VII and VIII, just like most people. I got everything in 8, cause I got it before 7. Every item, GF, 100 of every spell everything. I played it for the summer between when I was going from middle school to high school and maxed out every character.

FFVII the only thing I missed was W-Item and I STILL dunno how to get that shit.

VI was my favorite, but when I got to that my schedule wasn’t as free as it was when I got VIII:bluu:

I just started XII and I could tell this game is going to have TOO much shit for me to do. If this game came out when I was younger, I’d be a happy camper. But with work, girls, music and college starting sooner than I’ll expect, it’s gonna be a shame that I can’t put in any power hours in this game.

Also I beat IX and forgot everything about it. I got to the end of X and stopped playing…and I had X-2 before I had X. Who knew?

FFV I love that game, but every time I get far in it, my file is erased. Fuck that.

-Fritz:wtf:

One of these days I’m going to go back and level up like mad and crush Omega and Shinryu in FF5. Still ticked off about opening that chest and getting raped by Shinryu…

Too bad it’s so hard to farm for the Dragon Spears from the Crystal Dragon…that’s about as bad as trying to get the stupid Danjuro dagger/hoping to get the Zodiac Spear in a rare chest.

One of these days I’m actually gonna finish FF5.

I will say that playing FFXII makes you appreciate the earlier games where you got gil for defeating enemies. Man consistently chaining enemies so i can get good loot to sell for lots of money was killing me.

Game is good though. Balthier is too pimp though

Me too, I started playing over winter break and I am a little over half way. I was in the middle of trying to max out ninja’s for my fighters and red mages for my mages. I already managed to max out hunters on my two fighters and got high enough levels for the mage classes to use their best spells in other jobs… it’s pretty fun game

I had to search for this thread lemme subscribe:

SQuare Info Baby Look at that wonderful line up of square games!!!

EDit:
Bluray FFAVCC Niice!!
Square knows how to take the money outta my wallet.

They know how to take money outta my wallet too.

FFXIII!!! Get it out Japan. Geez.

I’m not sure if this was posted before, but here are some (finally!) new images of Dissidia:

I don’t really like that Tidus redesign. They should have given him something close to Shuyin’s outfit in FFX-2.
