I thought blitzball was the worst thing ever introduced to the final fantasy series. I couldn’t even play FFX.
Blitz is sole reason I still play X. Aqua Rugby ftw.
FFX-2 RUINED it and Sphere Break SUCKED
FFX-2 Blitzball was whack.
Fuck you, dude.
FFX-2 Blitzball did indeed suck ass. If they had made it exactly like FFX’s I would have had great fun with it for hours on end. Sphere Break wasn’t as terrible as Tetra Master, but it wasn’t my favorite.
Fortunately FFX-2 had this thing called “sidequests” and “freedom” that FFX didn’t really do so great with.
Triple Triad [FF8, was that what it was called?] was a dope game, way better than Tetra Master. Of course once you had a couple character/GF cards, shit was pretty much on lock.
Some of the rules were crazy too. Kept the game interesting, especially later in the game.
Random could wreck your set.
Card Mod.
Try it on your next playthrough, you’ll see what I mean.
It’s cause I suck at the Math.
FF8 Card Game = Probably the most entertaining part in 8. I’d play that shit for days before doing anything else story line wise.
thx green and dhal, i might as well go finish that shit since im close to the end
Blah, I always thought Blitzball was boring. Thank God for the little behind the goal trick or I’d have never gotten Wakka’s sigil.
Now that everyone’s on the category of Blitzball, what’s the most lopsided score you ever put up on your opponent? I think once I won by a score of 21-1. Helped that the goalie was on Hi-Risk and I had Sphere Shot and Golden Arm set up on Brother.
I recently got a DS and FF6 Advance. I love the new challenges in the Dragon’s Den and Soul Shrine. Today I defeated Kaiser Dragon and Omega Weapon with just Terra, and went through the Soul Shrine with 4 lvl 99 chars, Terra/Locke/Celes/Relm.
27-0
It could have been harder ( I beat Shinra on the first try…) but by no means did it suck… I really really liked it.
FF7 takes the cake though. Gold Saucer minigames > Mario Party 8.
OMFG, I just bought a PSP and playing through FF6 again.
This is probably the 4th or 5th time I’ve spontaneously decided to replay the game, and I’m absolutely floored each and every time. This is still my favorite FF game.
As much as I liked all of the FF’s after this one, I really wish that Square would use the FF6 formula again in a new FF, especially with respect to the character roster. I like having 10+ characters, some major, some minor, some static, yet all interesting. I think it’s perfectly fine to have a big roster, yet only fully develop a few main characters, and leave the others to be developed in sidequests and cutscenes.
I also like having unique characters with unique abilities. I think there’s such thing as too much freedom with character customization. Characters being different gives them more personality and you’re more likely to have a favorite and least-favorite. I like how Edgar is so uber in the early game, then passes the torch over to Sabin in the mid game, and how Gau is such a little pussy bitch. In a game like FF12, the characters’ roles in the storylines make them different, but otherwise I don’t really care because they’re all more-or-less identical throughout.
I wonder how FF13 is gonna be like. 8 to 12 are great and all, but by no means legendary.
^ ff6/3/whatever is probably my fav ff of all time, during my first playthrough Zozo probably stood out the most why? i have no idea. i dunno, it was like a place full of lying assholes and one guy who told the truth, shit had an eerie feeling to it made me go o_O the whole time… and the rain too, that added something.
The whole 10+ roster was koo too, too many personalities to love/hate, develope ect. I remember hating gau for being a peice of shit then randomly going into that veldt sequence where they’d dress him up n shit too meet his dad? i forgot, but it made me look at gau as a less than piece of shit.
i liked going though each chars past, cyan with his fam gettin peaced, shadows dreams, seeing strago at the magic temple/tower made me laugh, edgar/sabin coin toss, locke and rachael, and so on and so on…
and i remember keeping shadow on my team just cuz he was a ninja tho he was weak (my first playthrough)… anyway during the final fight all the team members die leaving shadow… he was terminal and i just made him throw shit coz i wanted to get it over with an start over… anyway interceptor comes and bites kefka and kills him… i was like o_o Lolwtf.
RE: FFX’s Blitzball.
I’m thinking of playing through this game again. What is the behind-the-goal trick?
There was a blitzball trick?! Man I did it the old fashioned way.
All those damn matches.
Gold Saucer’s games are cool in all but some of the GP awarded off them are quite laughable.
I watched my brother play FFX first and he didn’t play blitzball too much but when I played through, I was hooked on it. It was def not the greatest FF mini-game but it was a lot of fun and a nice change of pace and I ended up getting Wakka’s ultimate weapon. FFX-2’s sphere break was pretty fun once I got the hang of it but it wasn’t the greatest game either. FFVII and FFVIII had my fav FF mini-games. Between the gold saucer, chocobo racing, and Triple Triad with card mod assist, I was a addicted like a coke fiend.
I think thats the one where you get a lead, and then swim behind your goalie and stay there… the AI will just keep swimming in circles on the other side of the field… I don’t remember too well, but a friend told me about it when I first played the game… I told him I didn’t win, and he told me thats how me managed to win the first blitzball match…
