Back away, circle around them , sway, and let them miss
Against body punch spammers, perfect block and either
Attack the body: the amount of their stamina taken off from a counter is pretty big off a hook/uppercut.
Attack head: can lead to stun in which you can do some spamming of your own (temporary unlimited stamina) or better a flash KO (could happen more often then you think, especially with Tyson and Foreman).
Push (X button) to create space then throw jabs/crosses as you back away. This could give you a better chance to do 1) and/or 2).
Dont pin yourself in the corner.
You have a Block Meter that drains as you continue to cover your head/body so be more selective on defense (i.e. dont brother to block if your out of punch range). The lower the block meter, the more stamina you lose from blocking punches, the more likely punches can slip through and hit you (may not hit you full force but could still hurt you or worse knock you down). Sometimes you can get KOed by an uppercut that slips under your arms and connects with your chin even if you blocked high. This can be due to lack of block meter. This game can penalize your for being too defensive unlike previous Fight Nights where people constantly spun like tops and guarded their face.
Use the body weaves (QCF motions from 12 or 6 oclock positions) and use hooks to counter high punches. Very powerful but does drain stamina so be careful.
Save your corner points if youre still in good shape. I usually like to heal/restore after 2-3 rounds and even then I may not use all of them. If you fight well, all of a sudden you could much larger meters then your opponent.
You can actually dominate a fight with quality punch rather then quantity of punches. Its not uncommon to KO someone and in the end land 100+ punches less then your opponent if you play smart.
I just got this game 2 Days ago, and I’ve really enjoyed it so far. I only just got online with it last night, and the results were mixed.
First guy I fought (I was Lamotta, he was Hagler I think) we had a close match, but then in round 8 or thereabouts he started throwing headbutts and KO’d me with them. It wasn’t enough to get him DQ’d though
Second person I played was very good, they used L. Lewis and I was using Foreman, he straight outplayed me and KO’d me.
Last guy I was winning most of hte fight, and he gave up and DQ’d himself witha flurry of headbutts.
I really need to get better with my timing for counters and stop wasting punches. I keep throwing out punches from when I’m too far away. I also want to ask, with a hard hitter like Lamotta, Frazier or Foreman, should I be trying ot get in close as often as I can, or should I still keep moving and only close in when I get a counter?
Well it happens in real matches too ^^
Overall i think the game is great, but it could even have been better, i think the legacy mode isn’t as cool as the carreer mode from 3. Less customization options and some stuff that doesn’t make any sense (how can a guy with 12(8) - 15 - 3 be fighter of the year and not me when i have 20(20) - 0 - 0 ? :wtf: )…
But still a great game, i don’t really care about legacy since the gameplay is just great and fun.
If you want to play this game as sim as possible, do not use Foreman on the inside. He fought tall, you want to stay on the outside use the jab, to set up punches like his thudding right hand and throwing those wide uppercut haymakers that come from the hip, but do it at a DISTANCE.
Ah, thanks for the info. I should have known by his stature he would be suited to outside fighting.
I’ve really enjoyed this game a lot from what I’ve been playing of it. I actually think that the legacy mode is a step up from the career mode of FN3, the fact that you can schedule your fights and choose who you fight makes it much more interesting than the pre-set fights of the last game. It would be nice if you could go even further, like trying to get into programs/dates that would have better ratings/attendance to get popularity up. So for example, if you prove yourself to be an exciting fighter they might put you on the Friday Night fight instead of a Wednesday night, or be closer to the main event etc.
The online modes are pretty fun too, I’ve had two matches now where I have been behind on the points, but pulled a KO in the 10th round. I never run in and just mash the Right Stick either, but do get a couple of people that like to do so. Thankfully they make themselves really easy to counter when they do that.
This is a great game. Much better than Fight Night Round 3.
Legacy mode is a ton of fun. I am ranked 15 or so and I’ve gotten used to the training games (I can’t get perfect on each of the minigames though). I started off as a batamweight and I am planning on moving up to lightweight by the end of my career. I wonder at what point I can do this though. Oh yeah, I’ve been doing good on the yearly awards though. My second year, I got 6 of the 8 awards.
Also, I fight in the Lightweight Online World Championship and in the Middleweight Ranked matches. Hopefully I can take one of the world title belts but I hear it is tough to even challenge the beltholder.
If anyone wants to play, feel free add me or invite me to a game. I think I’m pretty decent.
I’m sure you guys can guess who I use (avatar is Pacquiao). haha, I play a lot of ‘in and out’ style. So I try to hit you and get away before getting hit back. I can’t stay in an in-fight because Pacquiao lacks the power and defense (block strength and toughness) of the welter and especially middleweights. Also, Pacquiao’s reach and height are very limited so he’s not a good out-fighter. But his footwork and handspeed kind of make up for it, so I do win against the much stronger opponants if I fight smart.
Excellent stuff. The tactics against spamming scrubs, some are smart and avoid time blocks by going upstairs and downstairs alternatively. If they weave away from counter windows, go downstairs. Body spammers, wait for them to punch themselves out, then go for some body work yourself to keep their stamina down. If you have them cornered, slow the speed of your punches, they are most likely blocking their head so go downstairs then come up with an uppercut a la Tyson’s right upper to the body, right upper to head combo. If your opponent is a quitter, let them headbutt you so they DQ themselves. Unfortunately my form was off last night and I did terrible onlinme, in regular ranked I have a 7-22 record (OUCH) but most losses are due to spammers who don’t give you any space and are smart enough not to let you retaliate. I ALWAYS box and fight like who I’m using, online in heavyweight world championship I’m 12 and 13 (started off 5-2) but… a lot of those losses have been against smart boxers who also play sim like and outboxed me, those losses are a pleasure because it’s to a more skilled fighter. Also make them fear being stunned, which can happen at every counter opportunity, try to use the fighter’s dominant hand to increase the probability of a stun off a counter. Unfortunately unlike SF players, most FN players don’t adapt if something isn’t working. Weaving increases the chance of a pretty counter and stun opportunity.
If you played and like previous FNs and you are willing to get pass the no button issue (assuming you used buttons in the previous games) then yes I recommend it, however, you might need to make some more adjustments in this one.
If you haven’t played other FNs then it depends whether or not you like sim-style fight games (i.e this and UFC). Compared to UFC, I like this a bit better cause of the issues UFC has online (DCer’s not getting losses and more lag in general) although you can argue that it’s still a completely different game.
yes, by far the best FN IMO since it was Knockout Kings. The AI and single player career experience is terrific, b/c the AI was created by developers in competitive play and each boxer fights like their real life counterpart. Online is sketchy, I hope they release the stamina patch soon that will punish the scrubs that waste it, as it is there is very little penalty for wasting stamina. Bobbing and weaving is an essential skill in this, bobbing to the left is done by doing a QCF from 12 to3 o clock, and right is a hadouken motion, which is easier to perform. If you do it several times in a row you can sort of loop the animation so that you can successfully weave under several shots and open up a counter window. Also if you were a FNR3 player, “spinning” does not work in this game. I never employed the tactic but it’s holding your block by your stomach and spinning your upper body, b/c of the block meter and the physics engine, this will not work. I’ve punished players who use this tactic by depleting their block meter, do they learn? nope.
I would say do it, except keeping an eye on stamina is soooooooooo important in this game. I’ll add too that b/c this is the first FN with sliders that add many many options on how to play.
The stamina patch is on it’s way. I’ve been talking to Mike at EA about a few things, and can confirm 2 changes for the patch…
Stamina(although he won’t say what those changes are)
Online World Championships… You will no longer know who your opponent is going to be or be able to talk to them before the match starts, to stop people from cherry picking to rank up, or keeping the belt to themself if they’re the champ.
The rest I don’t know, I didn’t want to bother him too much.
Anyway, anyone here ever wants a good match against a very solid contender… DancesWithNoobs is the X360 gamer tag.
p.s. Pablo, I’ve been playing with the bars turned off since release… I prefer it that way, because it takes away the fear element for you and makes you focus on your own boxing skill rather than how much you’ve effected your opponent.
Tough to say, it takes 2-3 weeks from the time a patch is sent to Sony/Microsoft before it’s released on their respective networks, so I’d guess around mid-july depending on when the patch was finished. That’s why you usually don’t hear a solid patch date until it’s reallllly close.
So I got the game on the recommendation of you guys, and I gotta say… I’m loving it. I was biased cuz I was against the idea of there being no button config for punches, but the amount of depth this game has in terms of using your boxer’s strength to your advantage is unreal. EA has done a good job on this.
