another thing that kinda sux is that there is no warning when you are about to knock someone out with a punch… it just happens…kinda sux because you never know if your next punch will be the one… i guess its real, but meh
The thing that confuses me the most is the whole corner game, shite. I’m winning the rounds by knocking ten tons of shit out of him, done way more damage, threw more punches, he’s just got a few lucky counters and he has like 61 points and I got 20… by the time 4/5th round comes it’s a massive fucking mountain to climb. They needed to revise this abit imo…
Seijuro, I still gotta add you man. Anyway, aside from training I’m really liking Legacy alot, it is meant for serious boxing fans so I can understand if it’s not to more casual tastes. The realistic depth of the AI combined with the sliders is infinitely better for me thabn online unless I’m playing someone from the EA site. 2 guys quit on me in unranked b/c I was outboxing them. What was funny is I used a created Sucra Ray Oliveira and scored a 10th round KO in unranked against a Pernell Whitaker which was great, it was a pleasure because he boxed. If any of you know about Ray Oliveira he was a solid fighter that always came up short against the best of the best, so it was funny I beat this guy, I was mimicking Oliveira’s periods of inactivity too. Facing jab spammers, body spammers/stamina blowers online sucks because it’s routine timing their punch, blocking and countering, really quite boring. I’m finding most of these players have trouble with boxers. It’s like watching 4 round fighters from states like Alabama and Kentucky with shady commissions who swing with no skills, it’s atrocious.
Can you customize controls in this game because I tried the demo and the controls feel weird to me. I preferred 3’s more although I can’t really remember what that was.
no, this game is TPC all the way. It’s great because it is much more responsive.
Number of successful punches
% of punches you’ve avoided
Number of times you’ve stunned someone (red bar)
KO’s
Getting up from KO’s
Those are the only stats I’ve seen so far when it comes to getting points for the corner shit. Just because Boxer A has 12 points and Boxer B has 20, it doesn’t mean Boxer B is winning.
That and you can carry the points over to the next round.
So I’ve had a title fight and holy hell… The guy beat me the fuck down. I think I’ve pretty much reached my limit for now in Legacy. I’ve managed to reach rank 9 and that was abit of luck and I’ve lost the last 4 fights now. One thing I have noticed is in legacy mode, the real fighters have amazing stats in comparisson to normal created chars.
Just played my first game online and won but fuck me the fight was boring. The guy I was fighting was just litterally standing there spamming block and then anytime he got a counter punch opportunity he hit me in the body… resulting in him doing a lack of damage. I won purely cos I just kept jabbing him high and low. No skill involved, just he was such a retard. Can’t say online is that fun… Legacy is alright but like I say, I think I’ve peaked. Mebbe time to just sell it on ebay :\ this really wasn’t the game I was expecting it to be. The demo was a totally different kind of game, in that I always had shit loads of points for my trainer, doing worse than what I was doing now. Also stamina and health never drained anyway near like they do in the real game.

Just my thoughts.
Yeah, I understand this… Problem is I should get something for winning is what I’m saying. If I’m doing far more damage because I’m hitting him far more than he’s hitting me. Why should he then be rewarded just because he threw about 10 punches and 8 of them landed and because he dizzed me from a lucky counter punch. That’s nothing like real fucking life is it.
Yeah, that’s one thing I don’t like about the scoring. Besides, most of the time, you can just turn into a volume puncher and your opponent is forced to waste his points on damage recovery instead of the other stuff. Eventually you’ll just outbox the guy and win.
I already retired as GOAT in Legacy, so I’m just going to do the online WC with the CAB, not sure if I want to play normal ranked with all the Tyson spammers.
edit - I have a harder time finding matches in quick ranked, another reason why I stick with the WC mode.
Some guy is 110-1 and he kicks me out of the match, what a scrub.
Ah, so your first online fight was against a counter puncher… You do realize, the reason he was going to the body on counter punches was because…
1.) you can usually sneak in a stronger punch because most people try to instantly raise their guard when the counter moment pops up
2.) It takes almost HALF of your stamina in 1 shot.
3.) You take WAY more damage when you’re out of stamina.
If that’s what he was doing, he was playing pretty smart. Not wasting any stamina unless required, and trying to drop all of yours. That’s also why you hear the announcers AND your coach say you should work the body more if you aren’t already.
You get something for boxing like a real boxer. The smarter you box, the more points they’re going to give you at the end of each round. The judges don’t care about just how much damage you’re doing, and neither does your corner. Your corner cares about how well you’re doing as a whole…
How well you’re avoiding punches(If you throw 300 in a round, and he dodges 200, you’re doing HORRIBLE)
How well you’re blocking
How often you’re picking up your counter opportunities
Your own punch percentage
Knockdowns
Stuns
Those are what really matters when going back to your corner.
Also, having a “corner mini-game” is nothing like real life at all no matter how they set it up. They just did it this way so you can set up your entire next round battle plan off what you decided to heal, similar to your coach telling you what he wants to see you do the next round.
Funny I won so easy if he was playing smart… lol? He was playing absolutely pointlessly. Just litterally stood spamming, not holding block, just spamming it up and down. Mashing the hell out of RT while mashing up and down on his analogue stick. His block meter was disintergrating instantly almost. He dizzied me twice and didn’t knock me down once and I knocked him down twice and dizzied him three times. Yet you say he was playing smart lol, awesome!
How well I’m doing as a whole is down to POV really. If I’m winning, I’m winning. That’s doing well in my book. I should be rewarded for that… Just because I didn’t get a lucky knock down or land every single punch I did doesn’t mean I’m doing shit. Which is my point… I know you’re desperately trying to act elitist like you know everything but your point is void. You’re trying to say “You get something for boxing like a real boxer”, ironically if I boxed amazing or shit in real life, the corner teams work is still the same. “Oh man, you boxed really shit, sorry dude I can only give you abit of water. Good luck next round”.
I’m gonna think about this quote the next time I do poorly in a round and can’t heal myself adequately.
Eh, I’m just telling you what I’ve noticed about the game. Thus far I’m undefeated in the WC rankings(most opponents won’t even accept the fight due to it), and only have 2 losses in standard ranked, so I’m not trying to act elitist, I’m just goin by what I’ve seen and what has obviously worked wonders for me.
I guess I mis-read what you were saying about your fight, at first I thought you meant he only attacked when he had a counter punch opportunity(which is known as picking your shots and is scary if you’re good at it), which is a very legitimate and useful tactic. The way to beat them is to push em and then set up your next shot from there, it’ll throw them off their game. What you played was more-so the “hope i get lucky” boxer, which is a different fight altogether.
The corner game is set up to encourage you to play smart, that’s why they did it they way they do. It’s to discourage punch spammers and encourage REAL boxing, but sadly people will find ways to exploit it.
really getting the hang of this now and loving it. got myself an effective anti-spam strategy and am forcing people to box me and play clever, even randoms. so much fun
I played three people who boxed last night 2 in WC mode and 2 in unranked. In WC, I lost a 10 round decision, and KO’ed the other guy in round 4. The guy I played in unranked we played 3 matches I won 2/3, I lost by stupidly getting caught with Tyson when I played Lewis, 2nd I KO’ed the guy’s Ali with Foreman in Round 7, then he switched back to Tyson, I used a created Larry Holmes I downloaded and KO’ed him inside 6. The guy was a good boxer, it’s just that he was applying the “spinning” tactic, i.e. holding your guard while wildly spinning his torso. This worked in Round 3, but not in Round 4 b/c of the physics engine. Perhaps we should start a scrub/DC’er list, like at the EA forums. I will add a couple on PS3:
KelzKelz: the guy disconnects if someone starts boxing, and outboxes him.
INSIDEMAN217: spammer. Guy beat me using spam tactics while I patiently boxed him and countered his spam (he was afraid of my counters so he always backed up when I had the window) and messaged me: “u garbage lollll”. I messaged back “try boxing, then we’ll talk” then I blocked him.
swervedog2000: spammer. KO’ed him, not worth playing.
gbosie3: ditto
L2K_MuRd3r4Hir3: “top ranked” #12 WC player who DC’s even when winning. Loser. Plus a spammer
Some other guy I can’t remember in unranked, I had his Marvin Hagler in the corner, and started unloading combinations to try to put him on the deck, he didn’t even try to push or clinch, he DC’ed.
From a couple guys on the EA forums:
Donnywho: supposed top ranked player online who disses ppl and is a body spammer with Tommy Hearns
pturtle: making grand pronouncements about no comp, he gets called out and got beaten badly by someone.
I don’t think we should be calling these guys using the spammer parlance, they are just scrubs. But not too many ppl on the FN R4 know that term.
lol gc zz knucklezz is a rquitter, down 40-34 in the fourth and knockeddown for the 2nd time he pulled. I just knew he ws gonna RQ when his user-created 7 foot man giant appeared on the screen
Another tip for those having trouble:
Only protect yourself when you are about to be punched or expect a punch coming.
This sounds obvious but a lot of people (myself in included) in past Fight Nights start the match constantly guarding the head and/or body way before any sort of punch activity comes. You have to break this habit of constant defense this year because you have a block meter that will drain the instant you push up/down with RT (I don’t think holding just RT drains it but the combination of up/down with RT does).
Moving forward, backward, and sideways while constantly guarding when your 10 feet away is a no-no cause blocking punches with a low block meter will drain your stamina real quick. Blocking is still important (probably the most important part of boxing) but you have to be more selective about it.
What ? In real life if you’re damaging the guy, he’s closer to being knocked down right ? Why would you get points to heal when you’re already getting a great advantage?
You can use the 3’s TPC over the 4’s if you like it better.
just won two 10 round decisions last night in WC, last one I played I won by a split decision. I thought I was up unanimously on all the cards outboxing the guy. That is like real life for you. I was also dominating a spammer who caught me with a big shot and finished me, which was real annoying. I’m running into ppl who are playing this like Round 3, which is silly, they waste block meter holding it up high like that. Also, stamina is the most important bar in the game and most ppl aren’t maximizing it being judicious with their punches.
im thinking about picking this up, but from what ive seen of the online matches, and what ive read here, it just looks like everybody just goes toe to toe and wails on each other.
is it hard to space out you opponent with jabs? did they change the controls enough so that you can keep moving around the ring, or do you have to just stand still, and swing till somebody drops?
what is the effective strategy against “spammers”. in theory you should be able to just let them wear themselve out, by keeping good spacing, and letting them whiff in the early rounds. but i dont have the game yet, so would that work, or no?
