The Fight Night Round 4 Thread

It seems like EA has confirmed Button Punch controls will be patched in by September

http://www.xbox360achievements.org/news/news-3097-Fight-Night-Round-4-Button-Controlled-Punching-Coming-September.html

I’m a bit worried this will lead to some exploits since the game wasn’t made with that control method in mind.

In any event, I’m having some trouble with the duck and weave thing, both using it and against it. It seems very unresponsive and I can hardly get it to work, and playing against the AI they seem to spam it all the time and continually can get me dizzied by countering with it. It gets really frustrating as sometimes the AI will be doing it almost non stop.

I am already used to the total punch control. I guess way too many people whined about it to make them implement a button scheme. I just got the ps3 version. I am new to the series, so the graphics immediately wowed me. It looks amazing in both 720p and 1080p!

Anyway, I am now rank 17 at legacy mode, and the cpu is pretty tough ever since I reached rank 19. I am having problems taking down anthony hunts. Anyone have any tips on how to take down cpu anthony hunts?

I just rented the game a while ago, and I’m loving it, however I’m somewhat in the same situation as Dumehra. I got to a certain point where I’m just getting manhandled by other boxers. I made my guy an inboxing type, and I have no idea what I’m supposed to do against these outboxers (who seem to block every single punch I throw that wasn’t a counter). Any tips?

In legacy mode the boxers are created, they’re different for everybody playing the game.
If you’re having trouble beating a guy try training more (like at least 2/3 training sessions before the match) or schedule a fight with someone else.
As long as he’s not the champion you shouldn’t focus on one guy but on getting to the top.

@Rickstah: weave and make them miss. When they miss you, you’ll have the opportunity to close the gap and rock 'em hard.

Body Shot ‘spammers’ never give me a problem. I just let them tire themselves put in the first few rounds with their excessive swinging (some swing haymakers while I’m walking forward… like I’m some chump who’ll walk into them), then by the 5th round most of them are down on stamina… so I just go in for the kill.

Go in with the right strategy and 85% of the time they’ll eat mat. I’ve only lost once (as at time of writing this), and it was to a guy who got a lucky haymaker in with Tyson while I was wailing on him cuz his health was so low. He hit me HARD and Ali was down for the count.

Body shots are fucking awesome. What is the problem? You could say the same with jabs.

Anyone still playing this on Live?

CJ I added ya. Sorry about not being around for about 20 days but my laptop’s charger had to be replaced and I hook my ps3 up to my laptop for online play 20 gig, lol.

Anyways I’m loving this game. Played online today for the first time since I got my laptop fixed. Faced spammers on top of spammers. I outboxed them like crazy with Tommy Hearns and guess what? They all rage quitted on me. Ahh i’m loving this game so far because it seems like real skills get you the victory. I love it when they throw punches in bunches because I make them miss and do hard counters to their body to drop their stamina. Usually by the 6th round they’re tired and I get an easy KO on them.

If anybody’s having trouble with jab and cross spammers just use the weave technique. You will duck under their head shots and if you hit them its an easy counter. Makes them think twice about spamming. I do this a good amount to get them to stop. Then I pick my shots and get a victory.

folks, let me say it right here: Seijuro-Hiko is the TRUTH. This man could become one of the top FN players in the country, and if EVO ever considers Round 4, players like him make it worth it. We played for a few hours last night in a series of skill based razor close fights, this guy has the talent to become an online world champion, the right way. Anyone who has PS3 who wants to fight realistically, look no further than the two of us. :china:

I’ll haven’t played in about 3 days. I heard they reset the records. Can anyone confirm?

I am. Presently sticking to unranked until the full patch for OWC is launched since a new glitch has been found where your opponent can force a disconnect that counts as YOU disconnecting… You take a loss AND a DNF%!!!

Needless to say, I’m not letting that one happen to me, so unranked it is until it’s fixed.

There’s a few really good players on the PS3, having had played both versions extensively, but the best player online I’ve seen yet is fisticuffking. You practically can’t hit the guy. Of course, he was also hands down the best at Round 3, so go figure, right?

I’m not sure if he’s on the PS3, I know he’s on the x360, but I’m telling you out right…He is the best player on fight night right now.

Derity is also really good on the x360 side… He’s the current middleweight champ, over 300 wins with 10 losses and that’s without ever ducking a fight.

The record reset was a glitch that occurred with a server side patch update for the OWC. It was a mistake and it’s being fixed. The patch was to make it so people under the top 2000 never get a title shot, and people who only fight people ranked under the top 2000 never get a title shot either…

Basically, they’re trying to fix dodging without taking away the ability to see who your opponent is before the update that makes it so you don’t know who you’ll be fighting. Ranks will be put back to where they were from before the update, and should be done by now actually.

I find matches easier on the 360… I can be in my PS3 lobby for up to 20 minutes before any kind of player enters.

fisticuffking I’ve heard of, if he literally can’t get hit and defends himself without doing nonsense like spinning excessively, then that’s cool. Spinners are taken care of in this game by bodyshots, and movement. I think I’ll return to unranked myself, but I need to finish Legacy. Well, I have plans to do that mode in every weight class.

He’s not a circle spinner(best way to beat them, push then jab, then stand back and auto-win the round for more punches landed PLUS a higher percentage landed)… He boxes like a real boxer. Works with the jab to keep the fight at the range he wants, spaces properly, and even gives you advice while he’s beating you down. Class act for sure.

a vid of fisticuffs fighting some dude on FNR3. Fisticuffs is on the left, and from what I watched, he’s pretty good at protecting himself and counter-punching. He knows his shit.

sweet. Terrific stuff in that vid. That’s how I try to fight

I play like that, but then I still get owned by robo punching lol. Even when I play patient, stick and move an land a shitload of counter punches; I get outpunched because of quantity.

Add me on Live if you guys want to play.

I’ll play you, but first you have to tell me who’s the girl in your avatar.

What I do with spammers a lot, this is part of my general strategy but if I’m inside I throw a combination of varying punches then push the opponent off me to regain distance. Also a body jab is a great long distance tool. You gotta almost pretend its like old school Dhalsim, st. fierce, and RH for keepaway.

CJ18 thx for the compliment. You’re a skilled fighter yourself. I need to work on my defense a bit more. Its good but I still take shots to the body a good amount. Its cause I can always regain stamina and don’t want to spend points on damage recovery. If anybody wants to face me and have some good matches then add me on psn. I’m always down to play.

Edit: Just got done playing a bunch of rounds. Is it just me or do alot of people suck in this game? Spamming body punches while walking forward won’t always get you the win if you go against a skilled opponent. I walk away and throw jabs and crosses to the body punch spammers. But if they have better foot speed than me I’ll perfect block themand take away their stamina with a counter body blow. I only had 2 good fights out off 8 tonight and one of them beat me with real skill. My shane mosely against his thomas hearns. I had a badass Mosely vs Ray Leonard fight. For some reason we got dc’d but the judges score cards had us at a draw. And we were boxing like a real match.

Most people in this game try to slug it out with ya and spam haymakers and head butts. I actually had one of these people send me a message saying stop walking backwards during the corner game. I told him Don’t get mad because I actually know how to box in this game. Also told him his skills were recession proof because they’re cheap as hell. I beat him bad. CJ18 I’ll play you today and the next few days since i have 3 off days in a row. I look forward to some more great matches.
