Yeah, traditionally, this was one of Tung’s best moves. In other games (FFS, NGBC, the console version of KOF XI) this move is :hitit: amazing (45 seconds into the video). The absolute worst place in the world is to be behind Tung, or for Tung to behind you when he does this move. It’ll make you weep at the controls at it’s damage.:shake:
Actually, now that I think about it, this is the first time he’s actually turned into Muscle Tung since the first Fatal Fury. In every other game it was a projection of his spirit (which were the times it was the most powerful).
Tung’s been strong in every game he’s ever been in except for RB2. He’s very much crippled in this game. If you do a search for “Tung” in the thread or use the link in my sig for the tier-list, you’ll find a bunch of other posts talking about him.
Shishioh recently found out that Tung’s dashing :snka: can be a decent harrasser: it’s very fast, has decent range, and great prioirty. It’s downside is that, because it’s an :snka: if Tung trades with anything, he’s going to lose out in damage. However, the upside (which I found out just now in playing with it) is that it’s comboable into the :qcb:+:snka:, the :dp:+:snkb:, and his P-Power. Which really ups it’s damage, and thus, it’s intimidation factor. He’s just got to be careful against :snka:+:snkb: attacks.
Shishioh also inadvertantly made me think of something that I’m surprised I hadn’t considered before, and man, he’s totally regretting ever having given me this idea now.
He wished that Rick had a Barom Punch, to which I said that Rick had the awesome Shooting Star as well as his dashing :snkc:, and that I would kill to have that dashing :snkc: with Franco. Then I got to thinking . . .
“is the Barom Punch cancellable in any way?”
And to Shishioh’s horror, it is! You can kara-cancel the Barom Punch into any of his specials or supers. This enables Franco to dash in with nearly the speed of Rick’s Shooting Star, and then go into any special / super he wants. And the best part is that even if you miss the window for the motion, you still get the Barom Punch. :wgrin:
I need to practice with it some more and get it to where it’s second nature, but this could make Franco Bash even more dangerous!
Tsktsk, you went ahead and “corrected” the intended engrish parody in my post, Mr. Big
Anyway, that move just looks like one big glitch. I am disappointed to see that NGBC mostly seem to be a mashfest, especially with cool characters like Mr. Big in it.
So I’ve heard about this “Ghostpilot” character for a long time now, and it’s you?!?
Dunno if you remember, but we played '98 years ago, and you always destroyed my scrubby Sports Team. I’m older and (hopefully!) wiser now, and would like to learn RB2. I placed 3rd at Evo World just by jacking some Japanese tech with Geese, but I want to actually get serious with him.
To start off, a question: After a combo into sweep -> feint, the back+B is supposed to tech punish, right? Well, in my matches against Harrison at Evo, he would tech before I could grab him, and somehow avoid getting hit. Was I just timing it wrong?
Thank you very much for this thread, as I admire your effort! This is exactly what American SNK needs more of…
If you’re talking about what I think you’re talking about, the back+B is used to kara-cancel into his down+C pursuit move. If you want to tech punish, I’d imagine that his projectile would work fine for that.
Whenever you trip the opponent with a non-grab move he will be able to tech roll to avoid your pursuit attack even if you use the feint cancel. If he does this however, it is likely that your rolling kick will hit him after he tech rolls. If he manages to avoid getting hit by your rolling kick after the tech roll, try cancelling it into a reppuken.
(I would test this, but I don’t believe I am capable of doing a low trip combo into feint cancel then tech roll with the other controller then block with the other controller then etc…)
Hook me up on MSN sometime if you want a match. And do take a look at my Geese guide in this very thread. It’s on page 3.
Hehe, yep I remember ya, Josh! Especiallly your Brian Battler. =) It’s been ages since I’ve last seen ya; it’s great to see that you’re still around! I wound up giving up the Mr. Big name on kaillera and such a few years back, and hell, I wasn’t even posting consistantly on SRK since around 2k5.
I wound up dropping the name when it eventually got to when every fight was a battle to uphold my reputation, or people would start shit with other people, then get me to fight their battles for them, etc: it just stopped being fun and turned into work. So I dropped the name, took up Ghostpilot, and played the games that I was always interested in, but never had much opportunity to. It took a while, but people started putting 2 and 2 together, but it was cool because I was enjoying playing / teaching again. :lovin:
Thanks for the props and welcome to the thread! Goes for you, too, RushedDown! If you check out the 1st and 3rd Console Gaming Tournamentvideos I posted a few days ago, you’ll find the best Xiang-Fei player I’ve ever seen. She’s one of the hardest characters in the game to use and be effective with, but if you can get her down, the rewards are huge. Her counters are far and away the most dangerous in the game, but they’re also the hardest to do.
Seriously, if you can get her counters down to where it’s instinct, you won’t lose, and that’s only a minor exaggeration. :looney: Being able to juggle her anti-air / specials counter into an S-Power is crazy scary. But I can’t state enough how hard it is to land those counters by accident, much less consistantly.
Hmm, Geese’s :l:+:snkb: can tech punish, but I think what might be the problem, if it’s whiffing, is that you’re doing it too soon. But if you do it too late, then you’ll miss the opportunity to land the Divine Punishment; kind of a catch-22.
You have to get to where you can predict techs. Some chars are safer to tech than others. Geese has the best sweep in the game, so if you think that they’re going to tech and you want to be sure you hit, your best bet will likely be to do another feint and then sweep, which puts them right back into the position they tried to tech from.
Other possible options are a Reppu-Ken (though it’s not exactly safe), a :360:+:snka: (with enough delay), or a Raging Storm / Deadly Rave (if you have it). Geese is one of the few people who is as risky to tech as he is not to tech (the other being Yamazaki). Geese has a ton of things to put you on the ground with, and as I said in an earlier post, he can seriously screw over momentium (another thing he and Yamazaki have in common).
The best people to talk to for Geese info, off the top of my head, would be God 2.0 & Nocturnal. I used to know a French girl who had a mean Geese, but I hadn’t seen her in about a year or so. God 2.0 actually did a writeup on Geese that you’ll be able to find here
Mmm, what else…oh, I did a good bit of testing with my new discovery with Franco, and man is it effective. It makes the Barom Punch harder for Geese and XiangFei to counter, since the Barom Punch has to be countered Mid, but all the specials / supers he can cancel into have to be countered High.
It also made moves that weren’t safe from the Barom Punch downright scary to use, because instead of risking a hard punch’s worth of damage each time you made a mistake, now you risk eating a special / super if you make a mistake. And if anyone who’s fought Franco knows, if he lands a Waving Blow, you’re in for a whole world of hurt.
Not to mention that, now it enables me to use the Waving Blow outside of combos. The -only- problem the Waving Blow ever had was it’s lack of range, but the Barom Kara-Cancel changes that, which led to another discovery: it has a tiny bit of invincibility on startup. Therefore, if you can predict an attempt to stuff your Barom Punch, you can Waving Blow, and stuff their stuff, and open up the vicious Waving Blow mindgame.
Since I still can’t edit my posts (and MrWizrd can’t seem to find anything wrong with my account ) I thought I’d go ahead and update / repost the links to all the different writeups that have been in the thread.
I believe she goes under the handle Emma. She plays on Reps Emulinker every now and then, but we haven’t played anything for ages. Perhaps I will pester her about visiting this thread and start with RB2 again if I see her.
With the latest Third Strike plague infesting Reps Emulinker these days, it is hard to ever find a random match in any good old SNK game.
Yepyep, that’s her. Still have her on MSN, too. Come to think of it I may still have her picture around here somewhere. A cute, bilingual, guitar-playing goth chick who plays fighters…talk about a geeks’ wet dream! I should catch up with her and see how she’s doing.
I haven’t been on an actual kaillera server in a while now, actually. I have to say that it’s pretty nice: much less random BS to deal with. Not to mention the better connections.
Got an exam tomorrow (ughs) but afterwards I’ll be able to better focus upon other things such as more writeups and such. And maybe even going through with the tutorial video idea.
God 2.0 and I have toyed with the idea of putting videos of our matches with us commentating on them. It’s kinda tricky though: trying to provide meaningful / interesting commentary while fighting. The other option is to fight and then commentate afterwards, but then you’re out of the moment and all.
Edit #1: testing was successful! =D Just finished working on things with Mr. Wizard and whatever the problem was was tied into what’s now my old account, so we deleted the old account and started up a new one (with all the same stats and everything, though my mail’s gone and I can’t edit the posts I made on my old account).
In talking to Mr. Wizard, I found out that I could change my name if I were to get a premium account for a year ($25.00). What do you guy’s think? Should I stick to Mr. Big on here (the only last trace of it), or ditch it for good and switch over to Ghostpilot?
Edit #2: I changed all my settings around back to the way they were previously and the problem reappeared. Turns out that changing the “Post View Count” to anything over 100 causes it, so if anyone has this problem, that’s what causes it!
And to think I was dealing with that for nearly 3 weeks…and I didn’t even have to kill the old account. =(
I pruned through the Neo-Geo.com RB2 thread that Dark Geese posted a link to a while back. It could use a bit of straightening up, but it could help give info on characters we haven’t quite gotten to yet in the thread. That said, though, there is some bad info in that thread. I haven’t had a chance to go through it in detail, but there’s some of the things stated there had me going :wtf: …?
That aside, there’s a good deal of handy information there, and here it is in an easy-to-find format!
Yeah, I actually stopped playing games for awhile because of various real-life stuff. Now I can enjoy it again, and have had a blast traveling to majors this year!
Funny you guys mention Kaillera servers, I got sick of that stuff forever ago - P2P is the entire reason I got back into Kaillera!
BTW, DeadlyRave tells me you can also play World Heroes Perfect. Well, Keits and I have been working to break down the game and upload matches, much like you’re doing here. If you’re ever interested, check the link in my sig or take a peek in our WH thread in Fighting Game Discussion - we’re currently working on translating a Japanese site, and I’ll probably start digging up frame data now that I know how to use the hacked Final Burn Alpha.
OK, sorry for all the off-topicness! Now, let’s switch to something that’s still technically off-topic but pertinent to this thread:
If you were to record P2P inputs with the sound off, could you play them back with the sound on?
The reason for this question is that all emulators have some natural lag, but in FBA you can remove all of it by disabling the sound; I especially notice the difference with Geese’s Deadly Rave. This does NOT work with Kawaks, and I forget what happens with MAME.
Clearly this would be the way to go for playing online, since we don’t want any more lag than necessary, but it would stink if it meant we would have no sound for the videos either.
And here’s a little something to make your life easier, Big: The Youtube Bulk Uploader! Allows for much larger file sizes, too, though I’m sure they still screw the quality.
And FINALLY, to actually get 100% back on-topic:
Thank you all for your help. I think Geese runs into this problem when he’s at a long distance and needs to :l::snkb: immediately. As such, I appreciate the suggestions!
Ha, nice to see Nocturnal’s name come up here. He and I actually played twice in the Evo tournament - I beat him the first time because he played a secondary char the 1st game, then in our rematch he just went with Geese the whole way and knocked me out decisively. Looks like we might run into each other again soon…
Don’t really have much left to say at this point, but I’m sure I’ll have plenty more questions once I start playing you guys. =)
Big: I personally don’t care enough about things like my screen name to pay money, but if you really want to that badly, no problem.
And PLEASE PLEASE do audio commentary! I actually like it post-match, as you can do a much better job of serious analysis, but during the match is often very fun as well.
Same here, I actaully had to stop for a while because my handy-dandy N64 controller went out on me and I wasn’t able to get a hold of any others. :shake: I managed to repair it and the backup I have, so I should be good to go for a while. :lovin:
Yepyep, I used to be a fan of WH2 back when it was in the arcades…::feels all old:: Death Match mode ftw!
I’ve played WHP a bunch of times, but I’m by no means an expert on it. My main chars are Muscle Power, Captain Kidd, Shura, and to a lesser extent, Erick and Rasputin.
For the longest time I thought Shura was useless between his weak specials, slow movement speed, and horrible jump: but his Double Knee Kick is one of the best specials in the game: comes out instantly, covers a ton of distance, and he can follow it up with a high-low mindgame that makes it safe. He has a decent set of fast, long-range normals as well.
As for the Mame question: I don’t see why not. Although I’m not certain if it would make a difference in Mame specifically. Could be something to try sometime: let me know how it goes. I personally have a harder time playing without the sound: goes back to the rhythm thing I was talking about in an earlier post (having played me with Skype on, God 2.0 knows what I mean).
Thanks for the YT uploader link. I actually use an addon for Firefox that actually makes the process even faster, easier, and more reliable than YT’s application. It’s called Fireupload, and if you upload YT vids n mass, then I’d highly recommend using it.
Yeah, it is admittedly a silly thing to pay for. The only reason why I’d do it is for my join date: more people are inclined to listen to a person when they see that they’ve been around for a while. However, sticking with Mr. Big on here allows people who knew me from back in the day get back a hold of me again: Josh being a case in point. :wgrin: Someone else has been using Mr. Big on kaillera though, and not only that but was paying KOF '98 and other games I used to play on a consistant basis, which was kinda weird. So just as future reference, if anyone sees a Mr. Big on kaillera being lame or whatever, it’s not me!
Anyway, time for me to stop procrastinating and get back to studying for my exam in a few hours. I should be up for some matches later if anyone wants to play. Seeyas next time!
Edit: And as a bonus to the budding Li Xiangfei players out there, here’s a showing some of the things she can do, and how dangerous her counters can be.
The bastard has the nerve to start counting the timing to your death when he is starting his combos on you, before you are actually dead. “One, two, three, and you’re dead!” :bgrin:
Perhaps a mashfest was a bad word here. What I meant was that the game seems to feature a lot of those lengthy combos that are guaranteed once you hit your opponent. For instance I saw a Lee player doing a long juggle. And then there is that Geki-hou that can take away 70% on on hit.
Basically, I don’t like a game where you are not able to decide your own fate once you have been hit. Combos should be there for mixup and mindgames. A long combo that requires lots of timing etc but only works when you already hit your foe makes little sense to me. It just creates a execution skill gap between those who can do it and those who cannot, and could just as well have been replaced with one big “I hit him once, do the full damage now”-button.
