The Fatal Fury Real Bout 2 Thread

Yeah there is a lot of that. However, the execution isn’t that hard. Even my horrible execution can do some chars B&B’s. I understand what you’re saying though. There are chars that can compete without a lot of execution skills. Hoahmaru, Big, Mars People off the top of my head, maybe Chonrei but I don’t think Chonrei is good enough since his fireball can be ducked, and Shermie’s grab makes the fireball whiff (discovered that last Tuesday played someone)

Tung, without that glitch, is the worst character in the game. With the glitch, he’s mid-tier.

Ran into a good RB2 player on Europe servers Named Soupladle. Had a good Kim and Andy.

Actually it’s not a glitch: it’s similiar in FFS (it did a lot less hits, but a lot more damage per hit), and it’s largely the same in XI. About the only time that move wasn’t good was in RB2 (in RBS they changed it up a lot, but it’s still a solid move).

The biggest thing that’s kept me from playing NGBC was that I have zero competition for it locally. As a result I haven’t touched it in about a year and a half, and I haven’t played XI in about 6 months. Basically, the only way I get to play other people (at least in games I want to play) is through emulation. A bummer really.

My finals and everything is all over! =D Right now I’m about to play DeadlyRaveNeo. Maybe we’ll get some videos out of it. ^^

i used to play on mame and i noticed the same performance troubles (even i have a good computer). Fighting in the sokaku stage for example is a real pain, it made me mad.

I’ve try kawacks (1.58) which is far better to emulate RB2 (and you don’t have to turn off the sound). The only reason i didnt play on kawaks was because i didn’t know how to save replays with it (i thought it was impossible) but i’ve discovered the new client P2p/kaillera and we can save and read replays now (.krec files). On kawacks, the game runs FAR better and i dint noticed any slowruns.

I think it’s time for rb2 kaillera players to switch for kawaks.

No. If you take the time to learn something that is hard to execute, then you should be rewarded appropriately. The button you speak of, would help people who don’t invest time to learn the harder to execute combos, which doesn’t make sense.

Also, if it was a mashfest (or even less exaggerated than that), they wouldn’t be able to do those combos. They’d not only struggle to execute it but struggle to hit confirm it.

Games with long combos generally make it harder for people who don’t know what they are doing, to win. Mashing random pokes can do some damage, but eventually the masher will get punished for far more. Games like ST on the other hand, have the easiest things do way too much damage, such that getting hit with just 3 throws or a few normals, can make you lose.

Anyway, I see too much mention here of tiers and stuff about how characters should be played, when the videos do not reflect this in any way (matches look like both players have just played the game for the first time). There’s no posting of Japanese tournaments (that I saw), as the French tourney that was uploaded was actually quite poor compared to Japanese play. You need to use match videos when analyzing tiers and how to play characters, because making them up based on what you’re discovering on your own, can be extremely misleading.

Just giving you a reality check…

Opinions, mate. I for one do not believe fighting game skill should rest on execution. Sure, it can be fun to do those heavy combos, but I would never want a game to base itself around them. Samurai Shodown 5 Special is a good example of a game that is almost pure mind games, but has very little fancy execution.

I agree with you about the tier stuff. I am skeptical to posting personal tier lists in general. It makes it seem like it is the objective truth, but you only get the list from one perspective.

For the skill bit, I haven’t seen you play this game yet, and so your mention of skill becomes pointless if you don’t know how to play the game. If you have knowledge of the characters that we lack, then I suggest you add it to the thread in a constructive manner.

I actually use (and love) Kawaks for offline play (particularly the ability to change the background music with the + and - keys), but Kawaks was notorious for it’s frequency of desyncs online as well as being unable to configure controls while online (which was something of a nuiscience). There was also some controversy a while back about people using macros for combos and such online with it as well.

But it’s more efficient with resources given to it than Mame .64, especially since it’s easy to adjust the memory usage (whether it uses system or video memory) and the task priority. which could explain why it runs better for you.

It’s been a while since I’ve updated Kawaks (1.46), so maybe the desync issue has been resolved since then.

Oh, and good catch with posting the link to the P2P Kaillera Client. I think most of the players in the thread had it already, but I’ll post it in the the RB2 Info Compilation to have everything convienently in one place.

As for tier lists, I personally dislike them. But let’s face it: we’re on SRK; there’s a multitude of threads about it and it’s the first thing people ask for. They’re a necessary evil. I just hope that most people play who they like as opposed to who is powerful.

As for Emil, I knew it was only a matter of time before you showed up to troll here. Before anyone puts too much stock in what he has to say about a game he doesn’t know anything about, take a look at his profile, paying special attention to the ban, and attempt to find a post (that hasn’t been posted / edited after this one) that’s constructive.

We’ve got a good thing going here, and let’s keep the ball rolling without giving him the satisfaction of it degenerating to flames.

Till next time, folks!

Firstly, it wasn’t a ban, and secondly, you have totally no clue what really happened. So, instead of complaining that I said something negative and making irrelevant comments, you should actually address what I said, which is 100% accurate.

But in those games, the best players use strings and other mixups, in order to get that one hit that can lead to the combo. The games never based themselves around the combos, they base themselves around using mixups/mindgames to land the one hit for the combo (games like guilty gear and melty blood, for instance). It doesn’t make sense for people who want to practice something that is harder to do, to not be rewarded for it as opposed to someone who doesn’t want to practice it.

Also, if everyone can do the best combos, then that element of discovering new combos (because the new ones would generally be hard to execute) and wanting to dedicate time to practicing, decreases. It’s one of the reasons I was put down my Garou, it’s too easy for anyone to do extremely damaging combos. There just didn’t seem to be much to discover in that game.

this is realbout fatal fury 2 not motw theres a difference please man don’t start shit here

Emil, you don’t know shit about playing Real Bout Fatal Fury 2 and you’re blabbering on and on about some weird shit that doesn’t make any sense, it’s like some kind of foreign language to me. What does Guilty Gear and Melty Blood (both hardcore button mashers) have to do with anything here?

Fortunately it seems that crisis has been averted for a good while: Emil’s been banned from the thread until Spring '08. Special thanks to Pryde for turning the thermostat down and helping keeping the thread constructive. :encore:

God 2.0 and I did some playing and made some attempts at a gameplay commentary. There’s still some kinks to be worked out (the button-clicking on my end, the Skype call quality on his, and trying to have a meaningful commentary while in the midsts of a fight ) but we’re doing another set in a few minutes and if everything goes well, I’ll have them uploaded in a couple of hours.

I’ve been messing around with Tung lately, and he’s actually got a vicious and -very- high speed mindgame. He has far less high-low options than someone like Franco, Yamazaki or Rick, but it’s blindingly fast. :wow:

It’s done by switching up between his :snka:+:snkb: / :snkc: (overhead), his :d:+:snkb: into :qcb:+:snka:, and his backplane highs and lows. It’s extremely hard block it for long, and even harder to escape via the backplane, and tough to hit him out of with anything short of good anti-air. It is possible to throw him at certain points (one of those times is when the overhead hits), but you have to get the timing just right or you’re going to eat a chunk of damage.

He’s becoming quite fun for me to us now, although I do feel a bit like a bastard when I do his corner high-low, anti-air, anti-sidestep madness. :badboy:

Here are some OSC2k7 RB2 casual matches between me and Zakyo-

http://www.stage6.com/user/unholyknight/video/1922346/OSC-2007-

Actually… I think he’s only banned for a few days. I gave him an infraction which got him banned, but his other infraction is about to expire very soon.

Well, he’s been asking for it for a long while now. Kinda a shame since he does have talent, but he has never played RB2 against anyone that I’ve seen.

One question- what’s the best way to get Sokaku/Yamazaki’s S-Power motions? I have a tough time with those for no understandable reason to me.

Lol, that is kinda wierd. My best advice would be to hold forward after the half-circe forward, so the computer doesn’t think it’s a dragon punch or anything.

Oh? The date in the profile had me thrown off. Here’s hoping that there aren’t any more issues.

Hmm, that’s odd, as far as I know (and having just tested it to be absolutely certain) they both use the standard :r:,:hcf:+:snkb::snkc: motion the majority of the supers have. Come to think of it, though, you do use Hon-Fu and Cheng a lot, both of which don’t have the standard motion for their S-Powers. Could just be a matter of getting used to the motion.

God 2.0 and I may way till he gets a new microphone before trying the commentary thing. We worked on it for a couple hours today and we can’t quite seem to get around the problem of being able to hear his voice without mine being deafening and vice-versa. I’ve been out of the arcades too long: I used to be able to hold a conversation while in the midsts of an intense match, but not so much these days.

Thanks for uploading the casual vids, Dark Geese! You guys need to play us online sometime and shake off some rust. Man, what I wouldn’t give to have some local RB2 competition…or XI, or well, anything for that matter. :bluu:

Sure thing Mr. Big…just wait till you see the Online (Deadly Rave Neo) vs. Offline (EVO World RB2 Champion Steve Harrison) Exhibition that I set up at NEC8 that we filmed coming this week!!!

I intend on hitting you up to play some more in RB2 make no mistake about it… Oh and KOFXI comp? You got it right here!

Big, thanks a ton for that Firefox extension! Will definitely help with my WHP matches. =D

We should play sometime - as of right now, Keits and I think Shura’s the 2nd worst character, and I’d like to see what you’ve got with him. I play him a fair amount myself, and the main problem with him is that his tiger knee is not safe against many characters. He can’t air-block on the way down, so he’ll just get smacked by any anti-air with range.

After some further testing, the sound thing only matters for FBA, and it reduces lag by either 1 or 2 frames. A lot of this stuff varies from game to game, and in MAME’s case from version to version! RB2 actually runs perfectly in FBA without sound, but has 2 frames of lag in every other newer emulator. Keep in mind, this is OFFLINE, and Kaillera only adds to that number…so this might explain why DeadlyRaveNeo and I were dropping combos in our respective games at NEC!

Nebula is actually lag-free, but it’s CPS2-only. :crybaby:

So, what’s an SNK gamer to do? I think Big’s got the winner with MAME 0.64, as that has less lag for everything I’ve heard people test. I’ve also heard something about how in newer MAME you can reduce the lag by disabling DirectInput, but I can’t figure out how to do that.

Now, if only I could find a working WHP rom for 0.64…

-Josh

Actually I’ve played a number of SNK games on Nebula, since newly dumped games are usually playable in that emulator before any other. Then again though, that was a hacked verision of Nebula, so that might make a difference. But it was also the Kawaks issue of desyncs (which makes sense, since they’re largely the same).

Hit me up on one of my many IM clients, Josh! I’d like to play ya sometime. By the way, if you guys think Shura’s 2nd worst, then who’s the worst? :wow: I didn’t think anyone got the shorter end of the stick than Shura.

Looking forward to it, Dark Geese! I really need to get accustomed to the PS2 pad since I won’t be able to use my baby: my N64 Superpad (finding a picture of this thing is almost as hard as finding the actual controller these days). It’s a shape I’ve gotten quite used to after 8-9 years. Mmm, unless perhaps I could possibly get someone, perhaps at the Benheck.com forums, to mod me one for the PS2. Hmm, hmm, hmm… :wonder:

I am starting to wish I had a PS2 with netplay support now.

Now well, playing wihout my trusted keyboard would make me cry anyway.

welcome to the real world my friend
