The Fatal Fury Real Bout 2 Thread

shit even a half decent player wont fall for it. i just wanna know so i can perform it in a combo during practice or use it on someone who doesn’t play the game often and that it will work on them. otherwise ill just use it against the cpu. at least they stay knocked out long enough for the vlv3, even on lvl8 play:).

Laurence Blood guide:

End Laurence guide.

The thing with Laurence is, it seems like most of the time the guy falls behind and then wins the round with the P-Power. When he can’t land it, he usually loses.

He’s kinda like Mai - a mediocre character who lives off of one super.

-Josh

I have to concur with Josh on that one. The Bloody Shadow is a huge threat once he has it, but until then Laurence is fighting a rather uphill battle. He went from being one of the best in RBS to one of the worst in RB2.

I don’t know what happened in the last round of that match, the Sokaku player just went…“MuahahapppppttIlikeflamingosandcheese!” :arazz::looney::confused: His brain just completely and totally shut down. I was just watching that and thinking, “:wtf: Did Sokaku have a stroke? :snkd:! :snkd:!! Breakshot! Anything!” :Fistshakes:

But not to totally hate on Laurence, I like him and use him on occassion. Especially in RBS, where he’s a blast to play (although his P-Power kinda sucks). At any rate, here’s -M5k6uVQB0w&NR=1"]another video[/COLOR of him for ya.

Ooh, I think that’s the same player. The definitely have similar playstyles.

Really, I think Laurence would be so much better if people couldn’t crouch all of his good pokes. His far :snkc: , Bloody Saber, and :snkc: from his sidestep, they all can be negated just by holding down.

I should use his dashing :snka: more, though. It looks like a good poke.

Yep, all the Laurence vids under my “rashreflection” account come from the same site and the same player. He’s very impressive, no lie.

And just as a heads up, any of you out there can make character requests for frame data! If nobody says anything, I’m going to cover the top-tier/most popular characters first, and save the guys nobody cares about (e.g. Cheng, Andy, Laurence) for last.

I will do Chonshu next, but after that is up to you if you so choose!

-Josh

I really wouldn’t put Laurence in the same breath as Mai IMO. She has a lot more things going for her than people think. That’s why I’m learning her pretty much.

Anyway. Time start the Li Xiangfei guide.

Xiangfei is kinda high execution, and has to be played patiently most of the time to win. However, if you put for the work, you shouldn’t really lose often either, because she does a boatload of damage, and can stun very quickly vs. some characters.

Pokes

Pokewise, st/cr. b, a + b, cr. c are pretty good for playing footsies with. Due to her fast walking speed, you can walk back and forth out of range and poke with these pretty much.

Anti-airs

Against low jumps. st. a, a + b, dp + b, f, hcf bc(far short jumps only), and walk under cr. b are really good. You can also use neutral jump c to an extent if you time it right.

Against normal jumps, walk under cr. b, dp + b, a + b, walk back f, hcf bc(not useful in the corner), neutral jump c are alright. Against crossup attempts, just dp em out of the air.

Remember that in all the anti air situations, all the stuff above can be replaced by high counter(a, up). However, no one wouldn’t be that crazy to try and jump and attack you all the time, so the other stuff applies for the most part.

In the air

In most cases, j. c is the normal you will be using 90% of the time. This thing can beat out a lot of things, as well as being one of her crossups. Short jump C harassment can be pretty beneficial and can lead to some mixups or big damage. Sometimes though it’s good to throw out the other jumps. Jumping a is a pretty good air to air, and j. b is pretty good at stuffing abnormal things.

Combos you should know

b&b I tend to use is: (j. c), cr. b, b xx qcf b x 2. Good damage, sets up okizeme well as well.

st./cr b xx qcf a. A great pressure tool, as well as a a good whiffed poke punisher.

corner: (st. a, b, df + c/cr. b, b, df + c), qcf a, dp +b/kara rekka s power. Standard corner combos. Kara rekka s power is done by f + c xx db, f ab xx db, f ab. The key is you want the second and third hits to connect.

any successful high counter, qcf a(x2-3)/nigga ram s power/p power. Options after a successful high counter. In the corner, you can do 2 to 3 puffballs and then dp/kara rekka s power afterwards.

Counters and how to use them effectively

One of the best things about playing Xiangfei is her counters. However, though the come out in 1 frame, they can be really hard to be used effectively in real matches. So how do you correct this to make it easier? First know that it takes timing to throw counters out. You have to time them correctly or else you will either whiff it, get it blocked, or it won’t come out at all. There’s some ways to set them up though.

Try setting them up after you have them block something. First look and see how they’re going to attack you first, then after that, if you know what they are going to do after they block your string, then counter accordingly.

On the same token, sometimes you may want to think about countering after their block string. Again pay attention to what they like to do and counter accordingly.

Also remember that all the counters are breakshotable, so don’t hesitate to blow through something every once in awhile.

Basically, you really need to be aware of what the opponent likes to do, and when they do it. With this knowledge, you can counter no problem.

Supers

f, hcf bc: This is the nigga ram s power. It’s breakshotable, and very useful in general. This one move can turn around matches. Anything that whiffs, throw it out. This can go under some fireballs and also hit limbs. It can also be a good anti air, and anti quick rise move. Just use it a lot.

st. c xx f, db, f ab(x2): This is the rekka s power. Use this as well if you have the meter or are in red life. It is pretty safe on block, and it is a big punish combo. It can be connected in juggles and the like as well.

360 c: This is her p power. Depending on how you get them with it, she will either do a throw or a big puffball. The throw has piss distance, but it’s still useful. Hell the puffball is useful too. Use this to surprise opponents. That’s the best way probably to use it.

b + ac feint

No she doesn’t have any viable feint combos, but this feint can go under pokes and fireballs, so use it well.

Well that’s enough. Hope this helps a bit.

Just got done playing RB2 on the ps2 for the first time.

AWESOME PORT.

Felt sooo good to be able to play this (with a training mode) on ps2 than a shitty emu.

Cheng!

I am using Cheng a lot these days, and I think he is fun to play, so it would be nice to see how his basic moves and stuff compare to others in terms of speed.

Alright, then Cheng will be next after I finish Chonshu! Should be one of the easier ones.

And Dice, is that a request for Laurence? He’ll go next in the queue if you like. =)

Thanks,
Josh.

EDIT: Chonshu has been added to the second frame post on the previous page!

::Gives Dice a cookie::

::Thinks he’s just found his first guinea pig to test his new device that stabs people over the internet:: :annoy:

We need to do some Cheng mirror matches. Would likely bore the hell out of people though- it’s one of those mirror matches that’s kinda dull.

Are there any mirror matches that arent?

I had a feeling you would respond to that. Embrace the power (or rather, mediocrity) of Cheng!

Hey there, I made a short clip for anyone who hasn’t gotten to experience a high-level Chonshu:

My video description explains it in detail.

Old news to some of you, but I just wanted to share with those who aren’t familiar with it!

-Josh

Yeah, that’d be pretty dull. Oh, and mirror matches, too.

(God 2.0) + (Cheng) :china: - = :lame:

Hey now, that’s not fair: I loved playing Cheng back in Fatal Fury 2.

When I was young.

And didn’t know any better. :looney:

I happen to think that he’s kinda cute (Yeah, I said it! What?!), in this bumbling team mascot kind of way.

My problem with Cheng in RB2 is that no one looks good using him. You’ll have a hard time telling the difference between an expert Cheng player and someone who’s using him for the first time. You’ll never see someone look at Cheng and say, “wow, I wish I could play like that.” (Except for God 2.0 or Arstal, who’d do it to spite me. :arazz:)

For me, personally, it’s a pet peeve of mine when someone goes to the “?” box and choses a random character because to me it says that they’re not trying.

Cheng is the personification of that: he’s about as random as random gets. :shake:

As such, the way for me to counter that is by doing things I really don’t like: get ahead on damage and keep hopping back with :snkc: to wait for him to go offense (which equals that of a tripodic wombat).

By the way, Josh, good idea with posing the Chonshu mixup. I was thinking of doing the same with Franco way back when, but never got around to it. Maybe soon I’ll do a mixup vid with my mains (Franco, Mary, Chonshu, and Bob). I’ll probably need another person to help out with setting up some of them if anyone is interested sometime.

Oh, and once again, excellent work with the frame info.

I dunno, a scrub won’t use his breakshot on safe moves. Or manage his meter. Or find ways to use his P-Power. Or predict when the opponent will line shift…

My issue with Cheng is that it feels like he doesn’t belong in this game at all - nobody else is such a poor fit for this engine. I definitely don’t mind zoning characters in general, though.

And I would be more than glad to help out with videos, this is the kind of stuff we need!

-Josh

Hey guys, some great news!

Soh85 just uploaded a TON of new Japanese matches - casuals and ranbats from the 20th and 27th of this month. Seems like this may be a regular thing now…great to see this game still alive!

Many thanks, Soh,
Josh.

EDIT: Holy crap watch part 3 of the casuals RIGHT NOW. Insane Chonrei matches!

Im certain that ill sound like a noob(not to say that i`m not) but wth is ranbat?

Also any tips on Billy?

Ranbat = Ranking Battle. A series of regular tournaments that give points to the top placers and determine overall placings at the end. The Gamer’s Vision 3rd Strike tournaments made this format popular among Japanese and Americans alike.

Also, FullMetalJ is the only Billy player on here I know of, so maybe he can help!
