The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2011 thread (info in OP)

It’s getting closer to that time again this year guys. As of me typing and making this thread it is about 1 month and a half away. I decided I’ll go ahead and get a head start on this thing since over the next few weeks more E3 information will be coming out and it’ll be nice to have everything collected in a general thread as time winds down. If their is any E3 information (news or rumors) that you guys come across please post it in here…hopefully I can take the first couple of days off like I did last year to keep up with everything.

Expectations from the Big 3

Sony

Anyone who has been paying attention to to the game industry knows what’s been going on with the BS hacking that Sony has had to endure. It’s gotten to the point that some people have even traded in their PS3’s in frustration over Sony’s online service. It’s pretty clear at this point that Sony more so than the other 2 companies has a heavier burden on their shoulders going into this year’s E3 so I’m expecting them to go the distance this year because of it. Perhaps seeing a live demo of Last Guardian finally along with some Versus XIII footage, and announcing that they’ve got a host of exclusives coming to the system all to try to keep it’s customers and make the ones that gave up wish they hadn’t. I’m hoping to see how far Sorcery has come since last year and if they’re still as gung ho about move like they were last year. I’m not expecting them to drop Move suddenly since they spent money, time and resources into this…it’s just going to need some compelling software. I’m also not expecting them to give much room in the conference to Move in comparison to other things…maybe 1/5 of the conference max.

Half of the conference I’m fully expecting to be completely dedicated to the NGP. There’s a lot of information that needs to be given out on this thing. Official name has to be finally announced. hopefully we can see more of a shape up on what the lauch line up will be because the NGP can’t slouch. 3DS will have been out on the market for most of this year when this hits and though the 3DS has been deemed to have a ‘meh’/‘ok’ launch that time that it’s been out will have given it time to build the library. When the NGP hits it’s going to have to deal with a wall of games from it’s competitor that they’re going to be showcasing this year. Nintendo has shown time and time again that the hanheld space is their house so Sony is going to have to show everyone why they should pick up their more expensive powerhouse hand held over 3D Mario Kart.

Really this conference should be great because of the fact that it has little room for error.

Microsoft

To be honest, I don’t know what to expect out of Microsoft’s conference this year besides the usual suspects and Kinect. Based off of the report that they’re supposed to be trying to triple their Kinect titles for this season I wouldn’t be surprised if close to half of their conference was dedicated to it. This could lead to a lot of lulz or could actually be genuinely intriguing depending upon how it’s used. Rumors of Dance Central 2 have ben hitting the web and it wouldn’t be surprising if we had to sit through another group of people getting down on the dance floor (not a bad thing necessarily since Dance Central was good). Luckily we already had to sit through all that explaining on what Kinect was at the last E3 conference and we won’t have to deal with that. Maybe we can see that Mechwarrior game or the Project Draco game during the conference? I’m sure those titles could be really good to show just how valuable Kinect can be.

I’m sure Gears of course will be there but in possibily 2 capacities. We’ll be able to see what XBLA games Microsoft is gonna dig up that will be awesome for the summer. I’m fully expecting Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 to be shown. And there’s been rumors of Grand Theft Auto V roaming around…It wouldn’t surprise me in the least if a trailer for it was shown during this conference. Then of course you got your Halo 1 remake rumore and whatever game Peter Molyneaux has been cooking up that he will more than likely over promise on.

Nintendo

Nintendo’s conference should be solid…period. I’ve said it before, they’d literally have to try and fuck it up for it not to be 8/10. Most of the conference should be dedicated to the Cafe since it’s supposed to be playable. Nintendo has been able to make some amazing playing and looking games on limited hardware so it’s going to be interesting seeing what they can actually do with an HD console. Not to mention the fact that developers have apparently been sitting on this system for awhile…There should be some good content to show for it. Then they have all the games that they have to show for the 3DS that are supposed to be hitting this holiday season like Super Mario 3DS and Kid Icarus. And we still don’t know what exactly the is in this 25th anniversary Legend of Zelda thing they are doing.

Pretty much the only thing that worries me in this conference is on the Wii side of things. NOA has been sitting on a bunch of great games that they just haven’t released over here yet like Last Story and Xenoblade. Legend of Zelda is a great series but with the likes of Gears 3, Uncharted 3, CoD Mod War 3, Batman: Arkham City, etc. the list pretty much goes on and none of those multiplat games are coming to this system. LoZ is going to need back up it’s not going to be able to stand up to all of that alone. I’m hoping Nintendo knows this and is fully aware of this and will show their solutions to the problem at the conference.

Under Construction…

And it begins. All I need from E3 is Zone of the Enders 3. Most publishers are announcing new games on their own more and more so to me, outside of the console manufacturers, E3 gets a little less important every year.

ZoE3 will make me so damn happy, but it will probably be PS3 exclusive :frowning:

Hopefully more Sony NGP info will be available, along with a list of launch games.

I only care about valkyria chronicles 3 US localization and any announcement regarding a continuation of nier. Everything else is irrelevant noise.

Under Konami related, rumor mill is we’re getting some Silent Hill Downpour gameplay footage.

My only hope for this year’s E3 is for Konami to do a repeat performance of last year’s conference. Those lolz will be with me till the day I die.

Other than that, expecting nothing more than the only thing you can count on at E3: mass disappointment.

Could only hope that ZoE would get some love in some way!

Man! ZoE3 would be so awesome, Imagine on PS3 Graphics riding a mech and kicking robot ass!

[media=youtube]f6OCnvvkSLM&feature=related[/media] - :lol:

^^ wtf

Man I hope that Konami has learned it’s lesson. If they want to make money they’ll release it on both.

I’m still crossing my fingers that the Android portion will be just as accessible as it is on any other Android device. If every little app has to go through Sony I’ll be PISSED.

I second that.

Man I missed out on the ZoE games, so It’d be sweet if they announce an HD collection for PS3 with 1 and 2.

I might be working it… if not, I’ll definitely be attending. Being at E3 really isn’t all that exciting. The best part are the company parties all night.

Haha I saw that when it came on…

The luchadors couldn’t even speak english… and why luchadors?

“Now you can move your fat bawdy freery!”

Stop it slime!:rofl::rofl:

EDIT: iirc they had Russel Simmons there… WHY RUSSELL SIMMONS?!!

Swallows gasoline and washes it down with fire

i hear many many rumours that Wii 2 will be shown at E3 this year

Watch ZoE3 be for the NGP.

Ninja Gaiden 3 and DmC gameplay footage is what I’m looking forward to.

ZOE3 would be sex. I love everything about that game, right down to the Kojima classic trailers.

If GTA5 isn’t announced, I’ll cry.

Considering that the PSP 2 is like a mini PS3 that’s perfectly fine! Now here comes my favorite part of my post: Control Speculation! EDIT. Just remembered that the NGP has cameras and six axis. OH BOY!

(I vaguely remember the controls from ZoE2 so bare with me and this is for the NGP/PSP2 and not a Dual Shock)

Set Up 1
left analog: forward, back, strafe left and right
d-pad: switch sub weapons?
right analog: look
triangle: fly up
cross: fly down
square: main attack/sword
circle: sub attack
L1: lock-on control
R1: dash

Now the fun part!

Potential uses for back touch panel:

  • Use a gesture to switch to a specific sub weapon
  • look around
  • slide your finger along the left edge to cycle through sub weapons
  • hold your finger in a certain large area near the right edge to use guard
  • slide up/down to agree with ADA (what L3 did) or slide left/right to disagree with ADA (what R3 did)

Potential uses for front touch panel:

  • touch an enemy to lock on to an enemy (back panel could do this too)
  • look around
  • instant teleportation
  • slide your finger over a selection wheel for your sub weapon
  • full sword control (swipe over an enemy and Jehuty will swing the blade in that direction

Or Kojima could come up with something new…

Set Up 2
triangle: grab
square: left hand attack
cross: guard
circle: right hand attack

back touch panel:
|Cycle Through |Fly Up |Cycle Through|
|Right Weapons|Fly Down|Left Weapons |

The areas for cycling through weapons would be much smaller while the middle area for flying up and down would take up the most space.

Or!
Set Up 3 with same button assignments as Set Up 1
right analog: sword control (looking around wasn’t that important in ZoE2 so I think this following control example could work)

back panel:
[Augmented][Cycle Through]
[Looking ][Sub Weapons ]

What I mean by this is that using that touch area to toggle, when you turn your PSP2 Jehuty will look in that direction. So let’s say you were standing in the middle of a room and with augmented looking on when you turn Jehuty will too (this was demonstrated with that Uncharted demo). Tap the toggle area again to turn it off. Or maybe you could just hold a finger in that area until you are done spinning around like a fool in real life.

Set Up 4 uses the same button assigments as Set Up 1 except…

R1: guard

six-axis: jerk the PSP2 in a direction and Jehuty will dash in that direction.

Like if you yanked back you’d dash back or if you flicked forward you’d dash forward. Maybe to prevent yourself from dashing when you don’t want an area on the back touch panel could be used to trigger dashing as long as you are touching said area.

On that note, I think that the lack of L2, L3, R2, R3 can be fixed just by using the back touch panel in creative ways. The upper left quarter of the back touch panel could be for the L2, the bottom left quarter for L3, the top right for R2, and the bottom right for R3. This could work well (maybe, depending on the game) for PS1/2/3 ports.

Sony could go even further than that and give you full custom controls using the back panel. They could map out like 8 areas (I figure that anymore may be too difficult to keep track of without on screen assistance like a transparent overlay of what each area is assigned to) on the back panel for you to assign a button to (this is the back facing towards you):
[ ][ ][ ][ ]
[ ][ ][ ][ ]

What if you just wanted L2, R2, X, and O as your face buttons with /\ and [ ] assigned to the back touch panel?
[/][ ][ ][ ]
[[]][ ][ ][ ]

or leave the face buttons alone and do what I said before.
[R2][ ][ ][L2]
[R3][ ][ ][L3]

or be redundant…
[R2][R2][L2][L2]
[R3][R3][L3][L3]

And fuck Uncharted. I’d rather play the Syphon Filter games some more. Besides all the obvious you could do things like lean the PSP left and right for leaning out of cover. Or touch on the screen where you want to throw a grenade (no need for a button or to switch weapons to do that anymore). Syphon Filter, especially if done by the guys who did it on PSP could be even more amazing. As could another Peace Walker style MGS. Squad commands could be even easier.

(Can you guys tell that I’m excited about the PSP2?)
