The Ed Thread - Yo Adrian, I did it!

Agree with the pessimists here. He’s not bad, but he has no really abusable tactic. His strong normals on hIt and block are neutered by his short specials that whiff too often.

I’m with the group that thinks his sweep sucks. Never has whiffing a sweep been so painful as with Ed.

V skill is just a situational combo ender. Too slow and unreliable to be used reactively. V trigger is decent though thanks to his normals being so high plus on hIt and block.

I will give credit to where it is due. His movement and animation are done well. His design is creative.

I don’t think he’s GREAT either, but he seems decent. His AA damage is FANTASTIC.

But his ranged buttons have no conversion ability. His sweep is bad. It’s stubby, somewhat slow and all those active frames make it easy to reactively wiff punish.

Cr.hp is not good as a CC in block strings. It’s -5 on block, free punish for ryu st.lk xx ex tatsu.

His st.hk is a free ryu st.lk xx tatsu on block.

His v skill though is pretty good. Not for use in neutral, use it in blockstrings where people are thinking about more stuff. It will grab outstretched limbs that people pre emptively throw out to stop dashes… it’s slow so it allows the opponent to actually get out the move. So it’s pretty incredible in that regard.

Level 2 v skill is very hard to use. People jump it on reaction and when done from range on block it doesn’t leave the opponent at point blank. When done from pretty close it leaves the opponent point blank… but this is a 35 frame startup move.

His crossup game is pretty good and he can get out 2 v triggers a round pretty consistently.

I think he will become a force if people can hitconfirm his cr.mk into his specials… he gets good meterless damage of of shimmies as well with cr.mk xx KK>p.
His strongest attributes right now seem to be his highly damaging AA and his ability to build V meter.

I dont get why you lose juggle properties when u successfully get somone in charge v-skill or charge lvl 3 psycho punch…when they are grounded and all. Barely rewarded for landing a slow charged up move?

He’s likely to be changed before release?

I think he’s a balanced character atm

However I’m a Alex main so just not being mauled means he’s ok in my book

Don’t think he’ll change at all. This was more of a testing of the network. I think Capcom are happy with him. But he’s too honest to keep up in my opinion.

It’s been 15 hours and I’m already missing the CFN beta.
Partly because of Ed, but also because everyone had to get gud on the spot with no training mode.
Lots of fumbling around, testing stuff, whiffing combos…
It’s the most ‘‘human’’ online has felt in a while.

Well, with no changes, sigh… KK > PP into d-V isn’t consistent either. Ugh. It’s like NOTHING is consistent for this character! WHY??? I like this character so much and yet I’m being setup to lose!

The frames on his sHK and cHK are also a bit of an outlier compared to the rest of the cast. They stand out as clunky for an otherwise smoothly animated character.

It’s consistent, it just requires timing. I ironed out the missing of the d.v-skill when I hit around lvl22

Was literally about to post the same thing Plaid. That’s going to be the best method to optimizing Ed’s V-Trigger, using dashes or forward movement to disjoint the multiple hits of the sphere.

So for people on pad, I figured out how to piano his hands into cr.mk. Set your L1 button to the v skill macro. Then to do cr.mk, hands, you do cr.mk +hp + L1 (which is vskill/no and mk) all slightly delayed from one another, then slide your thumb to square (lp) and hit both that and L1 a couple more times and you’ll get hands.

I still am not sure how to avoid occasional pshyco uppers though, which sucks. Using it from cr.mp and cr.lk is way easier than from cr.mk Imo. Hopefully someone finds a better alternative.

sakonoko’s 551 damage super combo with vtrigger

I literally just c.mk ~lpx5 for flicker. Its insanely easy to just mash the same button. I used Decapre and his are way easier. Simply mashing the same button also avoids accidental pp inputs.

I press cr mk and cr lp at the same time, and then cr mp - cr lp - cr mp and hands comes out a lot more consistently

Having a strong crossup in j MK is nice. Just completed Survival - normal. I was planning on using s MP, c HP, KK,PP, d+MP+MK as my staple combo for completing Survival but I soon saw the d+MP+MK misses VS cornered oponents. So I ended up simplifying to mainly j MK, s MP, c MK, PP. VS cornered oponents after the PP uppercut special move can Ed combo anything besises Super? Too bad that c HP has such short range.
