The Ed Thread - Yo Adrian, I did it!

I hate this character. I hate this character so much. After getting to level 30, i hate how much time i’ve spent playing him.
He has no overhead. I hate that he whiffs combos unless you are standing right next to your opponent. He sucks getting through fireballs. Slow ass vskill and slow startup vtrigg. Gets hit outta the CA.
Bout destroyed my te2 during this beta over losing so much, despite knowing my lp is intact tomorrow.

That st.HP seems like it’s not even close to dudley’s. Dudley’s st.HP used to stuff/whiff punish low forwards and such, easy. But not only did it do that, dudley’s lower hurtbox wasn’t as extended either.

Although I havnt tried to do that with ed just yet lol, but it does not seem like he can do it.

Edit : nevermind, it Does seem pretty close to dudley HP!

Been watching a lot of vids,what’s the point of Psycho Flicker besides getting in a few cheap shots and looking flashy?? It doesn’t do much damage and just causes a minor pushback.

If anybody didn’t notice already, cr. HP has CC properties only on the first active frames, so if you hit it meaty you will just get a normal CH instead.

You’ll figure it out. The character is way too good compared to the other cast to be doing all that. His V Skill is really slow start up, but if you make any type of contact with it (hit or block) he instantly becomes immune to projectiles during the whole rest of the animation of it.

Yeah it’s really good in the context of SF5 and only minus 2 on block with a CC property. His c.HP is another good CC button.

I saw some corner loop using it that did about 4 to 500 damage and 740ish stun. Can’t find it now though.

His sweep is making a ton of more sense now. I was wondering why I was getting clipped by it so much and why it seemed ridiculous priority wise for a sweep. I don’t remember getting swept that much by Season 1 Ryu. Easily the best sweep in the game if you last frame active it to be minus 2. That means even with just barely ok spacing you’re probably still mostly safe on block.

You can link CA off it for an easy confirm. Also easy light confirm…

Can combo off juggled charged Hp. Is it v trigger cancel-able?

Don’t forget corner extensions and you can use it for long range st.mp conversions as it links

Is it just me or is it harder to tech throws against ed. Never have I uttered “I TECHED THAT!!!” than in these past few days.

Did they use s.LK to link afterwards or what are we talking about exactly?

I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet, but when psycho flicker hits as an AA it sends them all the way to the other fucking side of the screen. Not that I’m advocating it for a reliable AA but im sure it’ll have its uses as a proper read.

It’s his only real way to combo from light attacks besides point-blank K+K…

Instant overhead can alleviate the overhead issue in most cases, you have to learn the ranges at where his comboss actually hit, vskill is mainly for punishing your opponent for over extending their fireballs and using it as a meaty wake up option if they do not get up, and CA is mainly for comboing.

If this is what you guys are talking about then it’s definitely some kind of mod I’m afraid.

Ah ok just a beta mod. Oh well, he’s still ridiculous.

Intrigued by the character, yet ticked that my old pet peeve has reared it’s ugly head again: PC players having an advantage in cross-console play due to hacking. They get to hack and practice Ed unmolested, while ps4 players have to wait until Ed drops, or struggle with him in the CFN beta against people playing their mains and going all-out against them.

Does anyone else think LVL 2 HP should do regular crush rather airborne?

My thoughts on ed:

He is a fun character, but not crazy good in his current state. I think he is too honest of a character and not very intimidating. Right now, I say he is mid tier.

Pros:

Great anti airs, you can’t jump in on ed if he is on point.
Good normals for sfv
Two bar v trigger
V Reversal seems pretty decent
Overall design is pleasant
3 frame s.lk
Good walk speed
Mediums into mediums/heavy
Good damage

Cons:
His reward in footsies is low. At mid to max range you can’t get much damage off whiff punishing. He kind of reminds me of chun li in that regard but his normals aren’t nearly as oppressive as hers.

The spacing of his combos is aggravating. If he isn’t almost at point blank distance a lot of his special will whiff. This is made even more annoying with the CH pushback in this game.

His crush counter combos are pretty lackluster. Low damage for the most part.

V skill is good… when it makes contact… It’s painfully slow, reactable and has lengthy recovery. After a month people will be scouting that move in the neutral.

His v trigger isn’t very scary. He doesn’t have a teleport or overhead to make it more then a combo extension tool.

Ex PP has a ton of invincibily frames and is at a push of two buttons. The catch is it’s slow… slow to the point where people accidentally meaty and safe jump it. I don’t think the move is bad, just can’t use when pressured.

His flicker is decent safe pressure, but it’s damage is pathetic and range is minut. I don’t know to apply it aside for super confirms and block strings.

I think his sweep is awful and will only get worse as the game progresses. It’s slow, stubby and active for way too long. It’s going to be really easy to whiff punish in the future.

Doesn’t get much off throws unless in corner.

His fireball hurtbox is kinda massive

I feel the flicker is pretty good at pestering the opponent, if you hit with one your opponent will probably be caught by another if they do anything other than block, and once you condition them into blocking you can dash in. It can also be used in frame traps where most other options can’t reach anymore. Once people realize its frame data it might lose effectiveness though.

Yeah, just wish his PPP doesnt get in the way when pianoing to make it a consistant tool. but c.mk flicker aint a bad thing to throw in between psychospark pressure. Looks like we have to do it rapid fire style mashingg
