The Dormammu Thread

Yes, but then it goes back to being “guess what returning MvC2 characters have gdlk assists again?”. I too would really enjoy having that assist for Dorm as opposed to just Doom rocks or needing Dante/Chun Li, but Dorm wouldn’t be the only character that kind of assist would be a huge boon to.

Yeah, pretty much like you said, I really just want another “cover” assist in the game beyond Doom’s rocks. I feel like our assist variety needs some work.

Karts you act like Dormammu is immobile himself. lol
Dormammu has an 8 way, flight mode, and a teleport.
Plus he has get out of jail free specials and hypers. As fast as Wesker is with teleports once Stalker Flare is out there its gonna slow him down enough for you to get a full screen hellfire or stigma as a threat to control his game

Also, unless I’ve just missed it in the discussion here; does Wesker just have super priority on all of his normal moves, or does Dorm’s just suck that bad? If you know someone is going to frequently teleport, why can’t you simply do psychic jumps and punch them as they are appearing to start your own combo? Or better yet, when you find yourself in a situation where a teleport would be imminent…teleport to them instead and change the tempo.

Not immobile, but Dormammu is very slow moving. Stalker Flare won’t give you enough time to do anything unless your opponent is dumb and tries to run away from it.

Well, we obviously don’t have frame data yet, but if you check Wesker’s demo video, he can almost hit his opponent from half-screen, and more importantly, he can combo off of his gunfire. Dormammu’s normals are pretty strong and have a good hitbox, but they come out slow. Even if you were playing psychic, you wouldn’t be able to actually do the attack until after the teleport, since doing it beforehand will make you attack in the wrong direction. Since Wesker attacks faster than Dormammu, such a strategy seems questionable.

Played as this guy today and Im in love… Dark hole with storm whirlwind pisses people off big time also the recovery on darkhole is awesome you just have to make sure you use it where you know there gonna be…
The hard version goes just abit more forward than full screen purification stops them jumping at you kinda like blackheart…
The guy is hella slow though I kept having to use his Crouching towards and hard move (little fire thing) to stop them from getting in and recking my shit lol
Havent found a clear use for liberation yet though I know when I get my hands on the game Im bound to find out some interesting stuff

Hmmm, im not sure if I understand what a cover assist is completely, but wouldn’t magneto’s blaster move, chris and deadpools machine guns, iron mans blast to name a few count as cover assists? Or do they not stay out long enough?

Dormammu/Trish/Arthur

What I’ve gleamed from the clashing projectiles video.

  1. Dormammu gets hit with projectiles (At least at most ranges) if he reactively fires a dark hole or purification.
  2. If he predicts the projectile, he can have dark hole eat it, but he will almost never be able to punish.

Therefore:
3. He should use an assist that beat projectiles cleanly when he predicts them, then punish with the dark hole or purification that WOULD have gone toward eating the projectile. Or just super them.

Which brings me to: does M.O.D.O.K’s shield protect against beam supers? Do melee supers just run into it and stop?

I don’t think they stay out long enough, and you can’t spam them like your opponent can on his point character.

We share a very similar train of thought. Beams go through MODOK’s shield; I’ve never seen a melee hyper hit it, so I’m not sure.

Anyone know if Dorm can cancel his 8way airdash into teleport?

I think so because teleport is just another attack and you can attack after you use an air dash. He attacks when he uses air dash in this video.

It looks like meteor can be spammed if the opponent doesn’t tech roll. Dorm uses it against C.Viper and is able to get two charges before she stands up.

Note Dormammu is such a boss. He walks super slow just so people can see him laugh. :smokin:

Make it Rain on em!

Can’t wait to get the game in hand to see if dormammu got any useful flight mode combos, not to mention see what normals got good priority.

Very inspiring video!

I updated the OT with new icons; let me know if I missed any.

Is t possible to charge hands while in flight mode?

Check out this Dorm video. Looks like his launcher has a huge hitbox, definately a good thing.

Also, if you know where to place those purification pillars, it can be a pain in the ASS for whoever your fighting!

Slight change needed.
According to the mvc3 website Dormammu movelis, pod is qcb+a and poc is qcb+b. also i don’t think dormammus airdash can be done manually with just stick inputs (a la mvc2 tron). 8wayAD characters have always only been able to do AD with direction + buttons, unless that has changed for this game.

Changes implemented.

What about Dormammu level 3? hope its still in.

Impossible for it to be gone; too much graphical work just to toss it aside without reason.
