The Dormammu Thread

No characters have their level 3 inputs listed on the official website as far as I know, so no, it is not gone. They’re just keeping the input hidden for whatever reason.

What looks to be best assist characters for dorm?

It’s largely circumstantial and up for debate still. Keits find all of them awkward but likes Dark Hole the best, while Seth Killian says he likes to use Purification. Liberation is probably the most circumstantial of the three unless 0D/0C turns out to have invincibility frames on assist.

Posting something I wrote from the MODOK thread, as it is relevant to Dormammu more than anything:

I’m actually leaning toward Dormammu/Sentinel/???, with the ??? either being Amaterasu (Bloom), Morrigan (Shadow Blade), Ryu (Shoryuken), Akuma (Shoryuken), MODOK (Aegis Shield), Hsien-ko (Gong). Sentinel Force will be far more menacing than Floating Bomb, or any other assist, for making it difficult to get in on Dormammu, especially since if someone navigates through the assist, Dormammu can teleport and continue to use their travel path for cover. Sentinel makes great use of Dark Hole, assuming he can chill in the air well.

The last character depends on what Dormammu really needs: a “get off me”, a “barrier”, or a “meter booster”. I think an argument can be made for all three. We know that Dormammu has problems when someone gets in on him, but proper use of his OD/OC Liberation might make a full “get off me” assist unnecessary, as might proper use of Ground Fire and teleporting after pushblock (block->call Sentinel assist->teleport creates a flow of projectiles to make it hard to get right back on you).

We also know Dormammu has problems with beam spammers, especially Magneto. In Sentinel’s videos, Dr. Doom’s beam not only eats right through a mini-Sentinel, but it hits Sentinel and cancels the entire attack, blowing up the other two mini-Sentinels in the process. If this holds true for Sentinel’s assist, then Sentinel does not help Dormammu at all against beamers. This means Dormammu absolutely needs a “meter” assist so he can consistently punish beamers, or he needs a barrier so he does not have to worry about them at all.

Lastly, the “meter” assist could win out if Dormammu ends up being able to handle beamers and rushdown with his in-built tools, because Chaotic Flame does absurd damage and pretty much connects after anything he does. Dormammu’s only true weakness in every video I have seen of him is not having enough meter to punish effectively - too many lone Dark Holes and such.

Just my fightercrafting two cents.

LOL! Thanks for that. Funny thing I was going over this too and still didn’t see it.

Dromammu’s Level 3 is it an unblockable grab, or do the Opp have to just block low? Seth quote on it has me confused.:frowning:

So I guess we can pretty much forget the appearance of Blackheart in this game eh? Oh well…Dormammu was always pretty cool in the comics. Glad to make him part of my team once the game releases!

No problem.

Unknown as of yet.

I wouldn’t count Blackheart out yet for DLC. He has a unique appearance and gameplay, and Capcom loves that stuff.

I am 99% sure it is an unblocakble grab. I tested this at fight club with a friend of mine to see if he could low block it and it connected.

It’s an unblockable, pretty similar to Dr. Doom’s.

Yesterday I tried out some of Dormammu’s missions and found out an interesting combo: crouching B into fire carpet (DF+C) x3 (yeah, three times in a row), followed by a cr.C, E and some air series. Also, his purification (or whatever, the energy column) OTGs well, and is cancellable into Chaotic Flames.

I’ll update the FAQ, but what’s the range on it? Does it just have normal throw range? I thought I saw it hit farther away. Does it just connect along the horizontal plane? I’d want to know the full range of the move before updating the FAQ.

How do you have access to missions sir? I assume that means you have the full game. Is the move officially called Fire Carpet in the game, or is that just what you are calling it? That’s wild that you can connect 3 in a row; how much damage does the full series do, assuming you don’t use Chaotic Flame at the end?

Also, if you are willing to take requests to experiment, let me know - I’m sure I could provide a nice list so we can begin informing ourselves!

From “Gods Beard’s” write up of the Gamespot tournament.

“Dormammu is really godlike, Filipino Champ got pretty salty when he lost to one running the hell away.”

This is both ironic and hilarious. Oh, I like it so much.

^Bawawawa Godlike!

surpised champ didn’t pick him up, guess that will change now.

Yeah, it’s officially called Fire Carpet, and I dunno about damage since in missions you can’t see any healthbar.
The combo was cr.B, Fire Carpet, cr.B, Fire Carpet, cr.B, Fire Carpet and follow, just to clarify :stuck_out_tongue:

And no, I’m not taking requests, but you can ask. I’ll be trying a lot of characters and might give some thoughts in the forums, though I got a review to do…

I got 2 questions.

is it possibly to Power up Dormammu’s hands while in fly mode? and is it possible to use em while in flight?

Thx in advance.

No and no. While flying, you can only do specials you could do while jumping. I think it’s the same rule for every character. For Dormammu that would be black hole, energy column and teleport.

By the way, that Fire Carpet combo (which was landing on V.Joe) didn’t connect rightly on Cpt. America… Wierd.

If you could get on ustream while in practice mode and take questions that would be awesome.

But of course you wont.

Purification (energy column) can be done while flying, that pleases me.

the game comes out in 3 weeks, stop being greedy. and did europe get an earlier release? haha

i need a second confirmation from him. i’m not believing it

Confirmed. I’m sure it’s been shown in any video.
