He can also kill assists with purification just snap back the main character or kill them with it, and just keep doing purification over and over. I was thinking about a combo that might kill the assist and keep the main locked down but I’d have to test it to see.

Dormammu is not pure keepaway though. He’s not MODOK. He has really solid normals and has the same teleport Dante has for getting in. He’s a very versatile character, so it’s fair for him to have some problems that, again, MODOK does not. I think the people who assume Dormammu is only good for standing back and spamming holes and pillars are selling him short, even though that is obviously a massive part of his game. Joskun is keeping an open mind to the character, and that’s a great thing.

Absolutely, but you don’t have infinite meter in this game. If you look at videos of Keits playing Dormammu against Magneto, it’s hard to handle that Disruptor L spam.

little embarrsed to ask this but how do you activate his dark spells before reaching level 3 charge? i can’t activate his other levels

All these people with the game are getting me hype for Dormammu, so far the only char as a lock for my team.

What’s the best way to use Dormammu’s spikes so far (both 0D1C and 0D2C)?

So is Dorm a lost cause in the assist department, or what? Are his assists really not good for anything? If so, I’m gonna be hugely disappointed.

However, I was kind of thinking about his Dark Hole assist. I know people are bummed because it’s the mid-screen version, but what if it wasn’t just used for keepaway (which is what most players so far probably think a team with Dormammu on it should be doing)? Pair Dorm with a mid-screen type fighter (Super-Skrull/Ammy/Hsien Ko) so that you’ll already be fighting at the right distance to use it for lock down, or a slower character (Thor/Hulk) to use its godly projectile absorption properties as a shield for their advance.

Thoughts on either my initial question or the above suggestion?

Dormammu’s assists are decent. Dark hole provides pretty good cover for melee characters trying to get in. Purification otg’s i believe, so it can be a combo extender for some characters. Liberation is pretty ass only because it has to be powered up to be worthwhile, which makes it impractical.

Shumanigans: IMO the od2c spikes are good for a midscreen punish cause they’re pretty quick and cover a lot of space, and they’re hit confirmable into chaotic flame. 0c1d spike, however, hasn’t proved to be useful for me at all yet. I’m sure it can be used in a combo, but now that it doesn’t otg, it seems like however you could use it, there’s gonna be a better option.

So does liberation work as a reversal or anything? I noticed it blows opponents way off him so I was hoping it might be his answer to people all up in his grill.

It’s kind of slow and has no invuln, as well as a bad hitbox. I’m leaning towards it being terrible, not that you’ll be using it often because the game lets you charge it into something useful.

Does 1C0D’s hitbox stay out for a while? Like for the entire time the animation is out, thereby making it a blockade for rushdown? Does it interact with projectiles at all?

hey karsticles, i made a mistake. apparently, 8-way airdash CAN be performed by tapping any direction twice. -_-

It looks nicer this way anyway, and we should discourage people from using that method. Unless IAD inputs work.

This might sound crazy, but last night I was doing well with Dormmamu on offense. He can triangle dash and on the way down, hit with j.A and lead into a combo, or land and go for the low. If they block, end the blockstring in the flame carpet, call assist, rush back in and do mixups again while they’re blocking shit.

So, depending on the matchup I had the option to rush or zone. People mentioned him having trouble with zoning but you can just teleport over their head, cross up with j.C and then go to town if they’re trying to zone you. Dormammu seems really versatile to me, definitely my best character right now.

You have seen the light as I have sir. Let us not short-change the Dread Dormammu as a basic keepaway character, as though he has something to fear from Megaman wannabes, thunder-thigh chinese girls, and clawed hunchbacks.

Many people are raging about how “cheap” or “broken” Sentinel is right now, but isn’t Dormammu with a meter pretty much lockdown on calling in Sentinel ever for assisting? He also seems like he could also keep Sentinel at bay fairly easily as well and could simply run the clock down if in the lead and going against a level 3 X-Factored Sent. That’s just theorycrafting of course, but from everything I’ve seen so far, it seems like he’s one of the better hard counters.

You just don’t really seem to hear about Dormammu all that much right now from those playing online. One of my teams will be Dante/Storm/Sentinel, and my second was going to be Dorm/Doom/Phoenix, but I think I need to conisder someone else to replace Phoenix right now, although I have no idea who. I could just be lazy and put Sentinel in, but I’d like to find a third complimentary character that plays different. Taskmaster for his own obnoxious corner lockdown and ghetto hidden missle assist? Sentinel drones are a pretty tough act to follow though, on virtually any setup.

I know it wont hit, but maybe will give you some time to do a couple of charges plus chip, anybody tried? i’d like to know the results
