Just wondering since I use play mvc2 on ps2…
I know that dreamcast is a near perfect port from the arcade, but I heard that ps2 isn’t. So what’s the difference and does it affect gameplay by a lot?
Thanks
Character size I believe is one thing and another pretty important one I guess would be cykes not being invincible during his AA …I think
ps2 version classifications…
- slowdown
- missing frames of animations
- smaller sprites
- lack of invincibility on moves
- you can be hit if you counter (which defeats the purpose of it)
- sound skips
- lag on calling assists
that is all.
hmmm… ok I got some questions…
2. Missing frames of animations… that wouldn’t affect it much, right? I mean all the fram data would be the same right?
3. Smaller sprites… does this mean that in scale to the arena (map) size sprites are smaller or …? would this affect gameplay?
4. For lack of incincibility on moves… are you refering to moves that has “startup” invincibility like kens DP?
5. So say you try to counter HSF with ken, so he comes in with a DP, he gets hit with HSF (referring to point 5 on your list)?
6. Hmm… I don’t notice a diff in lag in calling assists… is it noticable? I don’t feel a lag when I call assists…
Is there anywhere I can get detailed info for all these changes?
thanks

it make some combos impossible, because the frames of animation aren’t there

magneto’s s.hp doesn’t hit standing strider… yes, it affects gameplay
- For lack of incincibility on moves… are you refering to moves that has “startup” invincibility like kens DP?
yeap… cyclop’s invincibility is most noticable
- So say you try to counter HSF with ken, so he comes in with a DP, he gets hit with HSF (referring to point 5 on your list)?
no. magneto’s about to die from chip from HSF… you counter in storm… magneto can still get hit on his way out.

do c.lk, clk, rocket punch with magneto + sentinel. there’s a lag. the only thing that makes it negligable is teh missing frames on the rp. it does make it faster, however, and theres’ no missing frames on magneto’s standup… so going clk, clk, rp, dash, rom, is seemingly more difficult than the dc version
Is there anywhere I can get detailed info for all these changes?
only from people. an official guide hasn’t been released or something like that
Oh ok… so the smaller sprites issue… damn I thought it was in relation to the arena (meaning all sprites are smaller but still in the same scale to each other) but since you tell me only some sprites are smaller… crap that affects it quite a bit…
No wonder I couldn’t connect the rocket punch in that combo unless i add a pause in between both c.lks…
interesting
thanks for the help
Can someone produce a duplicatable example for #5? There is debate about whether it’s a ps2 only issue, or whether parts of it are ps2 only
it’s still possible to do c.lk + RP, c.lk …just time it differently.
but that’s the thing. why should you have to go out of your way to relearn a combo, just for the ps2 version. no matter how you look at the ps2 version, it sucks ass
Well ps2 version will have to do for me… i’m not rich enough to buy another console just for mvc2
it’ll still work in the cades, though
but see…
if you learn it as, clk + rp, clk, dash, rom…
why should you have to re-learn it…
rp, clk, clk, dash, rom
that’s my point… if it’s one teeny tiny little flaw that requires you to do something like this… that’s enough to say it sucks for me, when i know there’s better. example, i know that the DC version of alpha 3 sucks, so if there’s the PSX and Saturn versions available to me, why would i play the dc version?
well, i still do c.lk + rp, c.lk…
works for me so i’m satisfied…
btw, i dunno what the alpha 3 statement had to do with anything =P but if it makes u feel better, i play on the ps2 version of Cvs2 instead of the xbox version (because the xbox one isn’t even the same game)
that’s what i meant though
if you already own a better version, why play a lesser one? i have the DC, saturn and psx versions of alpha 3. the saturn’s broken, so i resort to the PSX version, beacuse the dc version is inferior. if you can get the dc mvc2 for free, why play the ps2 version?
- Blueboxes
- Playing a version of the game on a system that’s actually supported in the US is benificial to our scene.
- I don’t think capcom would appreciate 20 burned copies of mvc2 at evo 2k5.
- Blueboxes
- See #4
i’ve never gotten a bluebox. dreamcast was heavily supported before it’s decline. and the dc version is still cheaper than the ps2 version (since the ps2 version is apparently rare, i’ve seen it used for like $50, whereas the DC version used is about $15)
I’ve noticed a SEVERE difference between the two versions when I’m playing with Tron, in particular, her Lunch Rush Super combo:
-
In the arcade, you can get away with hitting two, or even THREE opponents simultaneously with the Lunch Rush, doubling or even tripling the number of hits you would have otherwise mustered from that combo. In the PS2 version, you can still hit multiple players with the initial shot, but only ONE player (usually the main player) collects all of the hits, while the other(s) get away scot-free.
-
Sometimes, in the arcade, my opponent would get caught in the Lunch Rush shot, but the Servbots would rush past him, allowing him to block the darn thing, despite being hit. Doesn’t happen that often in the PS2 version.
Also, Servbot has a little control issue as well:
- In the Arcade, you can simply hit a single button and repeatedly whack your opponent with the hammer with the King Servbot move.
- In the PS2 version, the hammer occasionally sticks, prompting you to hit the buttons harder to make him swing.
YOU FORGOT TO SAY IT SUCKS
So what about the xbox?..is faster that’s all i can say about it!..the ps2 version is so slow when blackheart does his antiair thing
xbox = ps2 version without the graphical errors (1-3)
edit:
and i don’t think there’s lag on assists
