The Diary of a Gen player

since you are into parry why not try it against shotos crMK fireball? its low risk and awesome too

The thing is, unlike wake-up meaties, I would need to do it at a different timing depending on the spacing of their cr.MK > fireball. I sometimes try it, but it’s not something that can be as consistent as focusing at the very 1st vulnerable frame on your wake-up.

Finally gotten round to making my personal matchup guide for Gen. Its sure going to be a fun exercise

I am sensing there are more unblockables yet to be discovered for Gen

SF4 ADVICE OF THE WEEK LOL

Son, I have played this game and reading people during matches, knowing what their mindsets by the choices they make in game, if you don’t mind me saying I can see you’re out of Aces and for you to read this carefully I will give you some advice.

You got to know when to block, know when to back dash, know when to mash dp and know when to focus absorb or crouch.

You never go auto pilot as long as the match is not over, there is time enough for that when the match is done.

Always play to your advantage and try to minimize the risk that is created by your opponent while putting them in the least favorable position with well placed fireballs, counter pokes, traps and combos

So my dear friend always remember that is not enough to know what can be done as to know when and why it should be done.

Every match is a winner and every match is a loser and the best you can hope for is to learn with every match outcome.

Now if you read thus far, I believe you indeed want to win and I am sure you will figure out what I say is true, but to further get you to understand I will say it once again…

You got to know when to block, know when to back dash, know when to mash dp and know when to focus absorb or crouch tech.

You never go auto pilot as long as the match is not over, there is time enough for that when the match is done.

Nothing is True, Everything is permitted

Nothing in SF4 is set in stone, there is always risk in everything, your goal is to minimize this as much as you can and also putting yourself in advantageous positions.

For example, the risk you run when you pressure a Ryu player with different amounts of meter will vary thus

no meter: Mashed DP
one meter: Mashed EX dp
two meter: Dp Fadc
three meter: ex dp fadc or three ex dps
no ultra: mashed dp
ultra meter and one bar: wake up ultra or ex dp
ultra and two meter: dp fadc ultra

now when you jump in on Ryu you face the following risk

no meter: crHP or medium dp, jump mp into med dp
one meter: ex dp, light dp ex hadoken
two meter: same as above
ultra: light dp ultra, jump mp ultra

so before you launch an attack or decide what you are going to do, always have in mind your opponent options and how they change depending on how much life they have, how much meter they have and if they have ultra.

Remember there is no right or wrong thing to do in the game, just the amount of risk varies on what action you choose to take. Wish you all the best.

Thank you for reading.

How much do you think gen will be affected by the delayed wake up in ultra?

not much, Gen doesn’t rely on jump ins much, and visually you can still make your jump ambiguous.

peace…what about that proximity guard stuff ugo? do u have some tips? much appreciated…

With his ultras so slow and his specials awkward and lacking invincibility I see very little use of proximity guard OS.

i tried something like cr.HP PGOS mantis super … it’s ligit but like u said no invincibility makes it very situational and i can’t get it consistantly …

If you play solid, there will be little to no need for this OS. just poke their ass with crMP x Hands lol!

I’m kind of sad xian is choosing to switch characters. It was nice having a top 8 gen

Once you go Gen you cant go back. I dont think he will get any success near what he has with Gen. he’s not going to drop him totally

having a low hitting attack that beats throws and crouch techs and can be OS to beat sweep is awesome!

The most dangerous attack in your arsenal is not the one that does the most damage, but the one that is unexpected by your opponent.
