Oh no my bad, checked into it and it wasn’t a crossover. The artist Tony Wong did HK comics before like Weapon of the Gods but the character was new. Ooops… I suppose you can add Night-Dragon fine.
Samurai Steel (Iron Man Villain)
Khatana (Cyber Ninjas)
Bengal (daredevil Villian)
Assassin (if we’re including machineman he counts)
karma’s brother was Tran Coy Manh
Ninja (Ironfist villain) HOW THE FUCK COULD IF FANS FORGET HIM???
Going off the Global Guardians thing, since I being reading a lot about DC’s brokenness in the past two days, there was also another Asian character or two on Gloss’s original team.
There was R.A.M., who is apparently dead, and Hal Jordan’s (best) friend, Thomas Kalmaku, if Eskimos count as Asian.
If Eskimos do count, then isn’t Harpoon from the Marauders–bless you stereotypes–an Eskimo?
No Eskimos. Thems Native American folk.
Technically, yes, but I vaguely remember them being referred as Asian somewhere…
That and they look more like Asians than they do a lot of other Native Americans (but that could just be because the later had forcible hot meat injections of white into them).
Don’t historians say that Native Americans crossed over to North America from Asia via the Bering Strait back in the day? But I doubt they would consider themselves Asian at this point in time.
Some Icelandish people look kind of Asian, too. But Bjork says she’s not Asian. Iceland’s close enough to where all the snowy people live, I guess. Whatever. If we’re going to start accepting Icelanders and Eskimos and Native Americans as Asians… I’m seriously going to go ahead and claim Atlantis and Namor.
Thanks for the alphabetized list, 'locky. At some point, when we run out of characters to add to the list, I will try to organize the list by publisher and whatnot. And the Asians might have to begin thinking about which characters are worth claiming as part of our racial team and which ones we should trade or simply waive altogether. (I’m looking at Daken, the Asian comic book version of Cherokee Parks.)
Lady Deathstrike?
Thanks, already got her.
how about shen kuei? That martial artist in Cable & deadpool?
Oh yeah, now that’s a good call. Thanks.
Few more DC:

From Marvel database by nationality: (exclude the expats of course)

Also Dr. Zin from the Jonny Quest comics and other countless Asian villains they had as well as Race Bannon’s girlfriend Jezebel Jade (from Comico comics)
Wow, that’s a lot of stuff to sift through. Guess we got our work cut out for us… I’ll go add Dr. Zin and Jezebel Jade for now.
Once we finish the list, I’m going to try to organize it and see just how many Asian comics characters are known primarily for their martial arts skills.
NO ESKIMOS
Wow, that sucks - so apparently all this work has already been done, for Marvel and DC at least. We’ll have to eventually sift through all those links then. Though our list is still awesome because it reaches across all of comicdom, and it’s still probably more extensive than what’s in there for Marvel and DC anyway.
I picked up my copy of Kingdom Come last night, and just coincidentally happened to notice five Asian characters in it. Listed below, along with the cheesy description line as found in the back of the trade.
- Buddha (sumo-sized scourge of China)
- Tokyo Rose (Japanese martial arts assassin)
- Kabuki Kommando (the Fourth World’s Japanese champion)
- Samurai (champion of Japan from the Batmen of many nations)
- Dragon (champion of China from the Batmen of many nations)
Good stuff.
All right. I don’t think there are any Eskimos on our list. I also added Clinty’s Kingdom Come suckers.
Does anyone remember the name of the main character from Frank Miller’s Ronin?
Are you talking about Ozaki?
I think so. Like I said, I forget his name. But he’s the dude on the cover of the TPB… The guy who gets reincarnated or thrown through time to continue the eternal battle. Or whatever the specifics were. I don’t own my own copy and it’s been a few years since the last time I read it.
I’m not sure either, since I read it at the bookstore but never picked it up. Since I am a cheap ass son of a bitch, I do a lot of reading in the bookstore. I’m very picky about what I buy… which might not come as a surprise to people familiar with my posting habits.
Haha, I read trades I’d ordinarily never buy in the bookstore all the time. I think most recently was that Wolverine story arc where he and Elektra flew into like the magical twilight dawn city of The Hand and slew like literally fifty thousand ninjas with each hand, while wearing a SHIELD issue rocketpack and like a hilariously unnecessary targeting cursor thing on his eye.
I hope Mark Millar gets hit by a truck.
DO YOU THINK THIS “E” ON MY CHEST STANDS FOR AMERICA!?!
