The "Currently Playing" Game Thread-Discuss Your Games, Vent, Give Props, etc

I’ve decided that I will go ahead and get Midway Treasures 2 for GC, simply because I just can’t wait until when I have an Xbox…I was actually analyzing button placement yesterday on that wacky GC controller…trying to see how in the world I could play the MK games on it…and I figured something out that may work if you can change the button configuration. Unfortunately it’s sold out at both places I usually go to at this time.

TMNT2 is out! Does anyone have this yet? I saw it yesterday…for a cheaper than usual price too…37.88 at Target, and 39.99 at Gamestop. I still just want to get it because of the old arcade game.
-Also, anyone who has it…tell me what’s different? There were certain copyright issues…so not all sounds/music are exactly the same. (*that already isn’t a good sign, imo. The IMPORTANT thing about a nostalgic game experience is that everything is exactly the same. I need old classic games to be absolutely PERFECT…and that won’t be the case in terms of audio for TMNT .)

No worries, Million. You can change the button configuration in every game on Midway Arcade Treasures 2.

I played Pit Fighter and Total Carnage last night. Pit Fighter was mindless, button mashing fun. I actually beat it. Being able to throw motorcycles at your foes was cool. As for Total Carnage, MAN that game is TOUGH. It’s like Smash TV–except the game is 1000 times more difficult. The death annimations are some of the most hilarious ones I’ve ever seen. My favorite is when your guy gets a huge hole in his chest and gets blown straight up towards the screen, screaming.

Damn, that game had some cool bg music. I probably wont buy it if they changed any important aspects of the original arcade.

Its the reason why I bought Midway Arcade Treasures 2. Mortal Kombat 2 IS arcade perfect. It was totally worth the $20 for the game.

As stated earlier, I’ve been playing the jap version for a couple months now. Don’t know any names, but my highest combo was only around like 600 or so in that huge room at the end of a level where you fight all those floating heads (probably the same level you speak of) with the scythe girl, whom I call Testament. :bgrin:
I am a fucking HUGE level-up whore, so I had Testament and the wolf guy (aka MoFo the Beast) at level 14 by then :razzy:

I dunno, I just feel like a wimp if I start with the “easy” difficulty, though I often enjoy going back and playing it later. Go figure. SHRUGS I’ll definitely do that here, since it unlocks a special video (I just read on GFAQs).

I wasn’t able to sleep this last night, so I had about an 8 hour Joe-a-thon and beat Stages 2 and 3. I really liked that Gran Bruce, he was fun to fight. The only thing that pissed me off there was when the camera angle would make it hard to tell exactly where he was chomping from, so I’d get caught. Hulk Davidson was also fun, but he needed to shut up. His voice was annoying. Speaking of the voices, I wish that they put subtitles on the cut scenes because several of the villains are very hard to understand. So far, I haven’t resorted to a FAQ for gameplay tips yet (I did just look up what can be unlocked and how), though almost every boss has confused me initially and I’ve come close to looking a couple of times.

I was also wondering, does each character get a different story, or do the other characters just play through with no cut scenes?

I agree. The only X game that I really enjoyed was the first one. I’ve played up to X5, and they all seem okay, but the classic series definitely has a better look and feel to it.

I got it already, and I have to say that I’m pretty dissappointed with the main game. There are some clever new ideas, but there’s a lot of shit that I really dislike. For starters, you have to “unlock” the combo attacks, the only one you start with is “weak-weak-strong”, the others like the stun combo “weak-weak-strong-weak-strong” or the air combo “weak-weak-strong-strong-strong” all have to be achieved at different points in the game. Which is crap, IMO. They also changed all of the character’s uncombed strong attacks from the previous game, now they all do wierd techno shit. Don makes an electric shield, Raph creates a ring of fire, Mikey throws fireballs, Casey throws electricity, and Leo makes little energy cresent slashes. WTF is that? On the plus side, I’ve already unlocked Casey. And the graphics are improved from the previous one. The game is also two discs long.

I just beat Total Carnage on Midway Arcade Treasures 2 with my bro-in-law. The game is like Smash TV. Except in 100 times less forgiving. You get rapped by hordes of enemies and there really is no save place you can hide from them. It’s a fun game and I really enjoyed playing it but man, was it hard. The difficulty was set to 3 with 7 being the highest, I think.

Time for some MKII and MK3.

Hm. Still playing the same old.

Fighters- MvC2, KOF 97/98/2002 (can’t part with Shermie ), Third Strike. Been playing KOF:MI as well. Decent and fun enough IMHO. Love the music and the alternate costumes.

RPGs

Ff5- LOL OMEGA EASY and all that jazz. I’m trying out the shittier jobs just for kicks. And try and get the alternate endings.

Ff8- My annual playthrough. Satisfies my Drawing/Leveling up/Maxing out desires greatly.

Gonna get back to ff7 too, in a short while.

I hit up that toys r us sale today, picked up:

F-Zero X
Super Monkey Ball 1
Super Monkey Ball 2 (Bundle pack for them both)
P.N.03

Cashier messed up and put F-zero X as a green tag (50% off) item, so I ended up getting all 4 games for 9.99.

I started bloodrayne 2 this weekend, I like it so far. the new Lock On system works, and you start out with all of the “abilities” she gained in the original. you can go from a “feed” to a fatality with the touch of a button.

Played some Halo with coworkers last night, the store(Best Buy) closed at 7 and by 7:30 we had 2 projections set up with 4v4 matches. went till around 12 with free pizza and drinks. In a couple weeks we might use the wall TV (think of a 27" tv, now stack them 4x4.)

I plan on finishing metroid prime in a day or so, so I can move on to wind waker.

I beat Astro Boy: Omega Factor last night.

SPOILERS!!
I had to do a marathon battle of 5 robot bosses in a row and after I beat them, this huge robot appeared and blew up the Earth. Wait a minute. I make the world save for all good robots and what’s left of humanity and the world blows up? That sucks!! But all was not lost. I was given another chance by Phoenix to go back and and play through any stage I want with all the power upgrages I had from my first time through. So I can find all the hidden characters an see the real ending.
END SPOILERS!!

Hey Million, you have an SP, don’t you? You’d love this game.

I just downloaded that Black and White game, I gatta say that throwing ppl far ditances and watching them walk all the way back is pretty fun  drowning them is also they way to go

Got my ass beat down several times last night by Another Joe. I finally managed to scrape out a victory after about 7 continues. That cheap-ass version of the Mach Speed duplicates that he uses was bullshit, IMO. Hella too hard to avoid. But then again, maybe I was missing some secret trick to finishing that. At any rate, thank God that Another Six Machine always drops cheeseburgers when you destroy it.

Just beat “Gargoyle’s Quest II: The Demon Darkness” on NES 20 minutes ago.

let me just go on record saying

ace combat 5 and GTA San Andreas simultaneously own my fucking soul!!!

Snagged GTA San Andreas, Fable, Under the Skin, and Katamari yesterday. I think R&C3 is gonna be in my PS2 for a LONG time come next week though. :bgrin: Probably gonna pick up Killzone as well.

Man, Astro Boy: OF is owning my soul. I’m hooked on finding hidden characters and playing through the game again makes the story a bit different. I’ve never had so much fun tracking fools down and doing so boosts Astro’s Omega Factor. I’m gonna try to get in some Dark Stalkers 3 but Astro Bou: OF just keeps calling me.

…Does R&C3 by any chance mean Ratchet & Clank 3? I must be pretty out of it, I didn’t even know there was a second.

Well, I progressed through the fifth level in Viewtiful Joe, but got stuck at some train part. I couldn’t figure out what to do after about 15 minutes of trying different things, so I just committed suicide and saved my game.

Those jets piss me off in this level, because the black armored enemies that they give you for stunning and punching back at the jets take way too long to stun. The tanks are really fun to fight, though.

Gonna pick up San Andreas today, can’t wait. I really wonder if there gonna make another one after this. Because they have finished all of the cities, Liberty, Vice, and now San Andreas. The only place thats left is London so I don’t know.

I’m still addicted to Astro Boy: OF. I think I’ve found 40+ characters but I need to find all of theme to see the best ending. My Omega Factor is almost fully powered up. I only need to find 3 more characters and it will be complete.

I played Dark Stalkers 3 a few nights ago. It’s like Street Fighter but then it’s not like Street Fighter. The special moves are more over the top and the character designs all look like they jumped out of a Halloween flick. I like the game. It’s different but good.

Super Smash Bros…MELEEEEEE! The game is still fun…despite my tragic lack of real people to play.

So, yeah…I’ve been whooping the cpu’s ass for the billionth time today in various Vs. matches—Coin, Bonus, Time or Stock…mainly for variety’s sake. I’m currently up to 952 Vs. matches. ONE of those was against real people…about a year ago.

ahhhh…WHY couldn’t they have made Mewtwo at least decent? I remember this tragedy even prompted me to make that thread: “When cool characters suck in gameplay” or whatever. It’s just sad…and I really do suspect some of this was done on purpose by developers/programmers that just don’t like the character. *come on, some shit is just stupid: M2 reflects projectiles…but they DON’T HIT THE OTHER GUY!!!" Jesus Hoobastank Christ. Come on now. A guy at Smashforums had a whole animated sig.image about this bullshit. M2 reflected something back to his opponent, and it passed right through the guy. The words “Makes sense.” comes up.

Falco is still one of my favorite characters to use. Too bad his recovery is a joke. Princess Peach got KOed in a funny way today. It happened so fast…I couldn’t really tell what went down…but I know she was bounced around like a pinball between myself and the other 3 characters, and…I think…a Pokemon. Her “REALLY hurt” scream soundbyte was heard over and over and over and she was gone in a flash. I love this game.
