You could interchange “comedians” with “muppets” and it wouldn’t make your statement any less true.
Now that I’ve grown up, I don’t like the US anymore
i think age has nothing to do with it. I think you see the hypocrisy for what it is.
I think what merkel stated about “multi kulti” failing is not only true in the euro zone but in every country where there isn’t a common ancestry or thread to unite a people.

How do you guys deal with it? The hypocrisy?
For me, it was enough to make me decide to move out of the US (after I relocated there in the first place through work).
I couldn’t stand the superficialness, the mass consumerism, the shallowness and the pretentiousness. Everything, literally everything is image driven, and everybody can be a temporary superstar for some shitty reason. Either way If you’re not spending dollars or connecting for dollars you’re not worth spending time with on a personal level. I think this is worse in people as they get older, i haven’t spend my childhood in the US so it could be different for very young people.
Then there’s the ignorance. So many people really don’t have a fucking clue, just about general knowledge stuff. And worst of all: they don’t care, as long as they can continue with their ignorance-is-bliss lifestyle nonsense.
Moving to the US has really made me see why americans are so hated throughout the rest of the world. Unfortunately you can’t really blame the average american. The max you could do is fault them for ignorance or lack of general intelligence. It’s your decision makers and business leaders that should be held accountable for some their policies, that have impact on some serious global issues.
I think the US is a holiday country for me, nothing more. I’ll enjoy as long as I can get away from the madness after a few weeks.
Edit: It’s not all bad news btw. American creativity, sense for money making and willingness to try new things and ability to adapt to changing circumstances is inspirational. You have to take the good with the bad I guess.
America makes a lot more sense if you stop thinking of the elite in terms of governments and businesses and start thinking of it as a big gang that has taken over everything and started running it all as a protection racket.
It’s not even about the established elite as such, nor the terms used to describe them. That’s only one side of it. I think it’s deeper than that: it’s the attitude and culture that epitomizes being an american. Those who are not part of wealthy or connected circles will strive to get there - irrespective of the costs or long term implications for society. Everybody wants wealth in excess. The US is not a country for moderation. That breeds greed, and the cycle repeats.
I wish more americans would experience what life is like outside the US.
I love you, for this post.
Full-on bro-mo.
Blue ball comes slow. Sent from my fists, using 'AdoukenTalk.
I’ve been saying this non-stop, about the motherfucking capitalist corporate parasites.
Fuckin’ A, man.
Hopefully the rest of the world will greet them when them try to sneak upon their shores.
With loaded guns and nooses.
May no other country have to fall, as our U.S. now inevitably shall.

I think this is a common assumption, and the evidence is certainly there if you go by the products of our culture, but I’m not sure how true it actually is. I’m not so sure that everybody is that eager to participate in the rat race, or that their participation in the rat race is necessarily steeped in the urge to become wealthy.
Lived in Europe. Couldnt wait to get out.
Maybe its like that SF animated movie (or any cartoon dub). I first saw it with the american dub, rock soundtrack; it was hot. All them japnerds talking about, “I never watch US lang, no comparison; the OG joint is way better; jap voice actors and OST!” When I finally saw it, I was completely underwhelmed. Once the bias sets in, its too late.
hahaa
but yeah, US heads need to get informed, our govt is building shadytech ontop of shadytech (standing on shoulders…)
Not that the educated europeans I have met are much better (plus they usually have this obnoxious anti-american bias)
…consuming
If it comes to a revolution I’m down.
But until then I’ll be getting into some shit that will help people and communities become more self sufficient. It’s called permaculture. Basically it’s really efficient and sustainable way to grow food/farm animals. Think about it, they spend all that money growing the food using machines that run on fossil fuels, harmful pesticides that destroy soil and pollute groundwater, and spend all that money shipping it back and forth, packaging it etc.
What’s going to happen when we reach “peak oil”? We are super dependent on fossil fuels for so much of our daily lives. The price of food will go up, the price of gas (how will you get to work?), the price of most goods actually since they all require delivery from producers of parts, to manufacturing, to the stores. We have bad infrastructure. Over population, not enough food. Disproportionate distribution of wealth. Now imagine less available fossil fuels, and price of oil going through the roof.
So yeah. Even if there is a revolution/power shift that ends up with a more egalitarian society, we still have lots of shit we need to figure out. Right now our way of life is not sustainable. I’ve heard many estimates of peak oil, from as little as 5 years-30 years.
Anyways. Best way to help your area become less reliant on government and corporations is to support local/small businesses and buy your food from local growers and farmers markets. In the short run it might cost a little bit more and be less convenient, but if you support your local people they’ll grow plus you get the added health benefits of buying organic. And once peak oil hits you’ll have a strong farming (hopefully sustainable) community that you can get food from, or teach you how to grow your own so you and your peeps don’t go hungry.
TL;DR
terms to know:
Peak Oil
Permaculture
Sustainability

yeah, the way I look at it, we’re just counting down now. We KNOW we’re still economically fucked, the rich fuckers, they’re back to making profits so to them the recession is over. We get to wait for Greece and then possibly Italy and other parts of Europe to start dying, then it will hit North America, and then we will get to wait for elections to see if maybe somebody will finally do something proper about this.
the only thing that should be done is massive nationalization of banks, medical, and petrochemical industries. redistribute excess wealth and regulate prices. of the people for the people right?

Anyone read the new budget? I feel very pessimistic towards the future.
Where do you guys go for your news sources? I need to start getting myself back into somewhat grown up mode and would like some actual good reporting.
LinkTV.org, DailyKos.com. I also like RT and RT America (RU), The Real News Network (US) on youtube. There’s plenty of others, some neutral and some more liberal. Aljazeera (CA), Huffington Post (UK).
Alternative media FTW
Also regarding the financial/economic collapse discussion; If we make it out of the global recession/depression that will occur sometime starting this or next year and our nation/global economy bounces back, it’s just a matter of time before we hit peak oil. Which will kill our economy if it’s still too reliant on fossil fuels. It will happen in our lifetime.
There’s going to have to be a major shift in how we plan our lives. Small scale and large scale.
Nah the government can’t take money from people. The rich conservatives won’t let it happen. And if Ron Paul or the republicans have their way it will never happen. They will throw their bodies on the machine to stop it from raising taxes lol. Fuck a starving child.
I’m curious to see how things will play out if/when this next large recession/depression occurs.
