By “that guy” you mean the ex-marine that served two tours in Iraq, and was out peacefully protesting for his people? He was injured by the non-lethal force of the police, and put in a coma.
Unfortunately not all protesters were non-violent, so they decided to shoot tear gas canisters into the crowd. And that guy got his in the head by one, major fucking consequences.
Casualties on all side, police and protestors alike are little people getting hurt over this.
Hopefully they can continue the non-violent protests of today.
It mostly boils down to this:
The big business got bailed out, why didn’t we?
Like I said earlier a martyr always helps, even if the facts are fuzzy people will rally to the herald and standard. However I still think without a leader in the form of someone to negotiate when someone in government is willing to lend an ear this movement is going to fizzle instead of BANG! But it is still rather early so we will see.
The Occupy movement does not recognize violent protestors as part of the organization. It is a non-violent movement.
The police show up in riot gear, fully ready to enter a conflict while the protestors are peacefully protesting. Why do they need riot gear to begin with? That in itself is a threatening gesture.
It is not an unheard of tactic for police in civilian clothing to infiltrate the protests and provoke a conflict.
The movement is not looking for a leader. It is a leaderless, populist apolitical movement. Any demands made would just be a “quick fix” and not sustainable in the long run or solve any real issues.
The movement is leaderless because leaders can be corrupted, or killed. They can also lead the movement into their own direction which is known as a vanguard. It has been a democratic process for these reasons, and also to capture the voice of the people.
The purpose of the movement is not demands. The purpose of the movement is the movement itself. It is to let the people in power know that the “99%” does not accept the situation, and will not remain silent thus giving their consent for the direction in which the nation is being led. We will throw ourselves down on the “gears of the machine” in order to stop it.
Right now the goal is to get attention, and to make people think. To encourage people to educate themselves, and to learn to interact with one another.
You would not believe how amazing the atmosphere is at these movements are. It is like everything you had wished college would be like, open minded people having meaningful conversations. People discussing things and learning together. The companionship and the various forms of culture and art that are displayed. It is a really beautiful thing when viewed from the inside, and outwardly as well.
What is resource based economy? I’ve looked it up, and I understand what it is on a basic level. but I would like to know more.
From my understanding to have a resource based economy, not only would there need to be a paradigm shift in current thought patterns around the world. There would also have to a systematic reorganization and redistribution of wealth. Keep in mind that wealth is resources such as, ore’s, land, industries, brains. That in itself presents a large issue, because by doing so you are entering socialistic principles. Then there are those who would refuse to join or partake in a such a system. In fact, people might even fight it. In order for this to take off, all industries would have to be reorganized and restructured to meet these new needs. And in order for this to work, all of the world’s resources would have to working in unison with this system.
now what I think it is
is it essentially a system where the focus is basic needs. Where a single commit y (group), define policy, law’s, and other mandates.
I don’t really understand how that system works, and how it would even be kept in check. Elaborate please.
this whole movement is going to end in violence. to much ambiguity and hatred which isn’t focused into useful long term tools for the future.
God, I hope it spreads to full-scale revolution, with the bankers pulling this shit with their bought cops and public officials.
Down with Wall Street.

again???
edit: damn, yeah they’re going again. The only thing hurting them still is their hippy image (every complaint I hear is about them being hippies, as if a nation of Cartman’s are out there), and they still have small numbers. Numbers that are growing.
Who created that “hippie image” but the media nad their corporate and banker masters?
it’s a combination of the media, and ignorant people who just think its funny and have zero idea of the economic situation we find ourselves in.
i would like to subscribe to your articles, good sir.
you are making so much sense to me.
there’s still reason in the world
mutts are survivors. proven fact.
That is the outside perspective. If you took the time to go down there you would realize how the focus is on informing and educating one another, which to me is complete focus. There is just as much LOVE as there is HATRED. Love/compassion/empathy towards our fellow human beings who are being trampled and exploited by the system. It’s not just a “we’re angry” thing. It angers us that the system and the overall masses of people who actively and passively participate in it, are so perverse that they can allow these things to continue.
We’re not trying to change the system by implementing “quick fixes”. We’re trying to change the system by changing ourselves, and changing what it means to participate in our country’s future (and the future of the world as well).
Interesting comparison of protests of 1940’s to the Occupy Oakland movement
Where was the martyr then?
We’re all martyrs in this system, we’re all suffering. Even the ones who are “successful” have suffered the psychological effects of the apathy and greed.
Even the people who are skeptics of the movement are suffering. Maybe you’re conflicted with yourselves. Maybe you’re not, in which case you have been psychologically conditioned to be apathetic towards other people. You have suffered as well. I really believe that if someone really knows and understands the depths of the problems and chooses to do nothing about it, and remain passive, then that is nothing less than apathy and irresponsibility.
Brits consider a Catholic mating with a Protestant to be mixed breeding.
Sad fact.

Well to add to your confusion, in a Resource Based Economy there is no state, so there are no laws.
A Resource Based Economy is an economic system that is based upon cooperation, and applying the methods of science, as opposed to the Capitalist System which is based upon the idea of private property, a free market, and competition. The system was first proposed by Jacques Fresco (amazing man, look him up).
The benefits of a RBE would be increased efficiency (production, infrastructure), sustainability of products and the environment, along with many social benefits such as everyone having enough resources (food, water, shelter, energy) and access to education and healthcare for everyone. Basically every problem with society will be approached and solved from a scientific perspective, without the financial cost that would hinder the solutions.
It would end the need for wars, the need for oppression and exploitation to power the economy, get rid of the redundancy of certain jobs that will no longer exist without a monetary system. In turn the people will be able to access education so that they can pursue alternative goals other than the goal of obtaining money.
Here’s a video explaining a Resource Based Economy:
Here’s another video from an advocate of a RBE.

That was pretty funny, and sad. Apparently Rush Limbaugh likes to play clips like that too, though obviously directed differently.
Don’t you think it’s harmful to the movement when you take a stance that the people who don’t agree with your own vision for the future are misguided, ignorant, ‘perverse’ or evil? Especially when the Occupy movement itself is rather riddled with less than wholesome elements.
