Actually the show is about the competition and the players competing. The game is merely the backdrop/ruleset to this. You don’t watch olympic swimming for the pool you watch it for the swimmers.

As for Miranda I have 3 things to say about it:

1. Aris has been pretty creepy and a bit out of line but that is a personal matter between Aris and Miranda. NOT between Aris, Miranda, and the FGC.
2. If Miranda can’t handle 1 loud mouth creep and wants to get out of the FGC, let her. Obviously she doesn’t have the capability to be in a competitive community, especially one populated mainly by men (as the FGC is generally more male dominated than any other competitive VG genre in my experience.)

Bronson poses a good question. If they did make more FGTV shows maybe with Soul Calibur 5 and Tekken Tag 2, would people watch it? As someone mentioned before SF x Tekken is unique in that it’s really the only game trying to establish itself in two communities, thus creating a whole new one.

All the other FGs have their own established communities, and regular “Road to Evo/Annual tournament” streams are good enough to establish rivalries and salty run backs. That said, I would probably watch another FGTV stream, but definitely not another one done like Cross Assault. Get rid of all the gimmicky stuff like taking away consoles and voting, but keep the salty shirts/interviews and horse heads, and give players an actual week to play the game and we might have something worth watching.

If the show was about just the game and players playing the game then the entire thing would be a gameplay stream with noone hooked up to a mic or being recorded. No saltmine dramas, no host, no interviews nothing. Just because I’m stating what the show IS, doesn’t mean I’m saying that is what I want.

To be fair, I have a bunch of Korean friends, but also tend to look down on a Korean when I I first meet him/her…courtesy of the extreme racism displayed by Korean international students during my undergrad years. That is, you can be mildly prejudiced against a certain race and still have plenty of friends from that race. So I agree with Aris there, although it’s a clumsy analogy.

However, the bottom line is that Jared is a fucking whiny, annoying, politically correct sissy boy with his panties in such a twist they disappear inside of his gaping, smelly vagina. Aris is right; if you change the fighting game community, you don’t necessarily “blow it up”. While you might attract a certain demographic you wouldn’t have before, you also alienate the original members.

Thus, you’re not necessarily gaining more fans on top of your old ones; you’re killing the old ones while adding new ones. So you’re changing your fanbase altogether.

Ultimately, I think that’s a bad idea; Western culture and the US in particular is extremely constrained and dominated by political correctness at every turn. That’s why people, especially men, love talking shit on the Internet; it’s the one place they can embrace their manhood, make sexist and racial jokes, and just be their goddamn selves.

Same thing with the FGC; it allows a certain type of gamer, especially guys, to relax, act naturally, and not have to second-guess whether every other word might be “offensive” to someone.

my experience with the FGC is that if the real world was like the FGC it would be a better place in the FGC it doesn’t matter if your’re a homo, black, asian, white, from the middle east, if you’re a tranny, if you have downs syndrome or if you have 10 heads or whatever

I literally have friends of every race, religion, and sexual orientation having grown up right dead center in the middle of “the most culturally diverse city in the us” (according to Time magazine at least.)

I’m half ARAB and have dealt first hand with the true racism faced after 9/11 for Arabs. Growing up, one of my best friends was a 60+ year old ex-drag queen jew (who loved bacon. go figure). And you know what? My Africa born god mother, my philipino/japanese god father, my japanese/spanish friend, my cochlear implanted gay married friend ALL of them can take a joke ALL of them can take a ribbing about their individual traits. You know why? Because this is shit you can’t change, this is something out of your control. You can’t stop being black, you can’t stop being a cripple, so why not have a laugh rather than getting offended at something?

Words are only hurtful if spoken in ignorance or hate.
