The Craig Marduk Thread

the only thing thats really bothering me about marduk right now is that his air to air seems to be REALLY bad. like people beat me all the time by just jumping and air to airing… it pisses me off… LOL.

other than that and the fact that he doesnt really have long combos… i like him alot, hes got some good rushdown shit going on and blockingdoesnt work against him.

imo you shouldn’t be jumping as marduk unless youre trying to set up some j.hk bullshit on their wakeup. there’s no reason why marduk should be scared enough to jump in the neutral game seeing as how fucking ridiculous his light gator slam is at anti airing.

yeah i can see that… but how do you want to go on offense? with his dash? or are you just trying to play keepaway with his far fp that is easily jumped over? craig baits jumps well, but he also gets hammered for a bad poke at the wrong times. i jump ALOT with him… but then again im playing onine where its harder to AA people on reaction.

I use his dash and spinning backfist move with armor. People seem to be really scared of marduk and like to really swing at him. I do a lot of whiff punishing with cr mp into ex qcb+k move to gator slam combo. Sorry if this was a really bad post, I’m not that good at articulating general strategy. I’m not even really maining marduk either he is just super super fun to me. I wouldn’t say that I would ever play keepaway, but there will be times that I am 3/4 screen away doing literally nothing but waiting. I also like to fish with the far mp to d.hp chain when in range.

There’s no input delay online (where i play too) so u should really be cognecent of jumps, because imo if u arent anti airing with gator slam consistnatly you arent going to put the fear of not jumping into people which makes marduk 5x worse as a character imo. Playing marduk is all about making people scared and making good reads. After I make someone block a spinning backfist I see what they do after that, and either guess gator slam or punch command throw after that they next time I make them block one. Just an example of situations of how u should be setting up offense with marduk.

On their neutral jump, you are probably close enough for Suplex, right? So you are also close enough for close standing lp. It’s a quick uppercut that floats on CH, then you can combo st mp xx gator slam after it I believe. It’s nice and fast, so you can definitely react to neutral jumps to either stop their momentum or transition into hard kd.

I played Marduk for the first time today and I’m having a lot of trouble using him. People seem to have a pretty easy time rushing me down and I don’t seem to have a good way to get them off me. The backhand seems like a good option but isn’t that like -5 on block? A lot of characters seemed to be able to mash through the armor as well. I’m also having trouble with anti airs. I’ve heard a lot of people say that his LP Gator Slam is a really good anti air but it seemed really inconsistent when I tried to use it. Am I missing something or am I just free?

Don’t worry you will get the hang of him. For a grappler like Marduk, people rushing him down is a godsend because it will be less effort for you to rush down. Try tick throws and blockstrings to confuse your opponents and sometimes chain your moves on block up to any medium move, that way it will be more safe and keeps your opponent blocking for another grab.

I think I might have found a way to blow up tech rolls fully. When you connect with his command grab, dash forward and then jump back. You can do one of two things to mix-up your opponent: early (but not too instant) j.HP, which will hit behind them and I forgot where he lands despite finding out about this today lol. The other is his j.MK which hits them forward and can continue to a damaging combo in both ends if you have meter. If not any meterless combo is fine.

I really want to know if this helps a lot of people since I cannot be online for a few days.

Tell me about it. I was excited to use him when I first opened the game then it quickly changed to scratching my head in confusion because him and Lili are very difficult to use from the tekken crew. I tried to team him up with Poison…But it was a BIG MISTAKE. I saw Ryu worked well with him but that EX wall bounce is hard to call your partner in with though.

Anybody else use Juri/Marduk? I found a really interesting 1 meter 500 damage Anti Air combo that some of you may want to know.

I’m currently switching between Juri/Marduk and Juri/Lili so I’m interested in hearing more about this

So you anti air with Cr.hp with juri and she can jump cancel I’m sure you know, so you do: Cr.hp Jc J.hp, Cr.mk, HP Fireball, tag cancel, let the fireball juggle then cr.hp air throw. Does 480 or 490?

In the corner you have to do a slight variation, same thing up until the HP fireball, in the corner (as in the opponent trying to jump out from being cornered) you instead HK pinwheel tag cancel immediately then with Marduk you jump straight up HK, land, Cr.mp, air throw. That one does 520 I believe.

Marduk was the first character I could find that can really do good cancels from Juri’s AA combo. And plus he does massive damage. This could be a killer team.

I was having similar frustrations. For me j.MP seems to be the best A2A, and maybe even the only A2A worth using :confused: In regards to the 2nd discussion I agree with you. I do jump with him more than it seems some other Marduks do. I think its viable because jump ins are too good in this game, AA is more difficult in this game, Marduk’s j.MK is an amazing crossup, and late j.HP into instant LP SPD on landing is GODLIKE. I’m making a guide/combo video for Marduk over the next couple days. I’ll post it on this thread when done. :slight_smile:

You can actually add in a j.HP with Marduk after the fireball juggle for more damage, i think it was around 520. I agree this team is working out pretty well Juri/Marduk does really good damage and Juri allows Marduk to get in really easily and she can zone against other zoners. The only problem I’m having right now is trying to tag Juri in without having to use the chain combo with Marduk.

Oh wow, good additions to the combo. I didn’t even think about J.hp or S.hp added in.

Just a reminder that far s.hp can be canceled into launcher. It seems hit confirmable (to me at least), which could lead to a safe way of tagging Marduk out against characters that might be able to keep away from him.

what do you guys think of raven,marduk as a team. right now im running raven steve but steves defense is awful so if i get blown up in tourny with him i was thinking about switching him out. Plus i never play grapplers and marduk is the only one i really am interested in

I was actually considering this team tonight. Seems like he at least had some synergy as a point character with Marduk and synergy is all I can base my 2nd choice on at the moment.

Im having some major selection issues. The SF roster is the most boring Ive ever seen so theres not really anyone there I want to team up with Marduk. So Im left with the Tekken side where Im struggling because my mains arent there. In Tekken I used Miguel and a bit of Lei and Bryan. Sucks theres no sign of Miguel but Im kind of happy Bryan and Lei are coming. The problem is that knowing theyre coming caused me to have a little identity crisis and now Im finding it hard to find someone I feel any kind of chemistry with that makes me want to stick with them other than Marduk. Im not even good with Marduk as Ive not used grapplers before. Im just going to take the pain of losing a lot until his fundamental play is engrained in my head.

Raven looks at least like he might have some kind of synergy with Marduk so it may be something I can build on.

I did also try Bob in a few matches and he seemed like he might be kind of fun but Ive not really worked anything out with him yet to determine if he works with Marduk well.

Looks like the only reason Im picking a 2nd character is just because of how well they work with Marduk. Ive dabbled with Raven and Bob but Im still not set on them over anyone else as Ive not really sussed what works best with Marduk.
