Dude you need to send me that Trillian update. Thanks. I’ve been using Yahoo! Messenger far too long.
What do you guys use to open .iso files? Just plain Daemon Tools?
And I am planning on buying a new desktop for real cheap, like $500 or so, including the monitor etc. Is it better if I build it myself or just look in your local Bestbuy?
Come to think about it, since I already have a laptop, I am just gonna use it for entertainment. Play movies, bump music, etc. I’d definitely want an 1080p monitor for that reason.
OK, I have a tech problem here. Apparently it’s a noob question, as the normally helpful forum I use for tech problems hasn’t even cared to touch it.
This is really annoying. I haven’t used access in a while, but I have office 2007 and have to use Access '07 for one of my classes.
Now, when I first started it up, it said it needed to configure MS Office Ultimate 2007 before usage (which is weird, because I’ve used it before, but whatever). It started up. It works fine, except for when I try to view a table in datasheet form. Then windows installer won’t leave me the fuck alone, trying to configure Office Professional 2003 (what I have alongside Ultimate 2007). I have to beat it down with a stick, hitting cancel until it stops long enough for me to try to access another table, where it starts up again. If I let it go on, it’ll say sku1e3.cab hasn’t been found. I got Office Ultimate through one of those $60 for college student deals way back, which might be why it can’t seem to find the files it needs on the CDs I used to install it. Maybe it needs a specific directory. I don’t know. I do know this is aggravating.
I’m sorry if this is a newbie question, but I really need help with this. I can get my work done, but dealing with this hassle will triple the time. I can’t find much help on Google.
But just so I won’t waste a post with only a problem, I’d like to top it off with a program recommendation.
Everything Search… searches everything. It’s a search engine for your computer. You add drives to it for it to index. After said indexing (which happens each startup, but is fast), it can INSTANTLY find files by name. It finds and refreshes its list as you type. This program is great if you ever want to find files of a certain file type and move them all to one folder. Or if you move a file to the wrong directory accidentally and need to find it again. It probably has other uses I’m not touching, but I’d recommend it to anyone.
^ Sounds like a weird issue. Only thing I could suggest is to uninstall and reinstall. It’s obviously something faulty dealing with directories. Might have to find/use a different disc when installing it.
This is probably the most useful mobile app ever made.
It has by far the best Twitter app out there for phones in general. Now I can do everything I can on the site, and even more (retweets). Same thing goes for Facebook.
It has a built-in RSS reader, and even allows you to import your feeds from Google Reader.
It has shortcuts to Myspace, Last.fm, Friendster, ESPN, Photobucket and many others.
Pretty much, now I feel waaaaay less of a need to get a new phone with wi-fi.
Sooooo im looking to pick up an i7 Laptop. They are just now rolling out, and I know Dell has one available. Looks promising, although the battery life sucks. Truth be told, I’ll have the damn thing plugged in near 100% of the time, so Battery Life doesn’t matter to me.
However it looks like Dell is using some older Gfx solutions inside the laptops to conserve power. I read some reviews, and it looks like the i7 laptops are pretty much monsters in terms of performance. I could probably survive with a cheaper Core 2 Duo, but im one of those tech junkies who always buys the latest shit.
I priced out an Alienware (hate them, but its better IMO than Falcon Northwest or whatever) at 2k$ and it had all the shit I wanted (upgraded RAM / Gfx card / 8MB Cache on the i7) but I figure if I hold out for a little longer the prices will likely drop / have better offerings.
Anyone look into any laptops with i7s? Comments / opinions?
(If you want to know, I never use my desktop anymore. Im always downstairs in front of the TV with my laptop. I use it for gaming mostly, although if I ever feel motivated it’d be for development… im a software engineer by trade.) I thought about an HTPC instead, but the wifey would none be pleased with me hogging the TV all the time to game and websurf on. She’s got a MacBook, but I want my own Laptop so I don’t have to dual boot Windows and MacOS all the damn time.
To those who are into graphics cards, how does the Ati’s 5850 stand up to their previous series? Is it a significant step up from my current card, the 4850 and a worthy investment or would it be better to save some money and go for the 4890?
I read all about the statistics and stuff but I really don’t know too much on what it all means. Thinking of upgrading my graphics card and putting the 4850 into my family comp so that my bro and sis can enjoy it too (they’re currently “rocking” an 8600).
The i7’s are hot, very hot. However a 2.13 ghz C2D (about the slowest current gen C2D processor out right now) will do anything you throw at it game wise, your limitation would be the GPU. The only program that even comes close to taking advantage of the i7 are benchmarking and there is minimal current software, games included, that would have anything more than a minimal and marginal performance increase.
The only thing it would really add speed to is if you do a lot of video or music/mp3 encoding. Go for GPU and skip the processor IMHO.
BTW I rock an ASUS G50 with an Nvidia 9800 GT (512mb DDR3 Video Memory) and a 2.45ghz C2D and 4gb DDR2 Memory. I can play Crysis on High settings with no lag.
Like the other guy said. i7’s run hot. i7 laptops runs even hotter. Every i7 laptop I’ve used throttle down it’s multiplier during cpu intensive activity/ when you reach a certain temp so you never run full speed when gaming or whatever.
Gaming laptops aren’t worth it, IMO, unless you’re a junkie in a college-esque situation. They run too hot, battery doesn’t last, and they’re hella money. My friend had an Alienware laptop that had 2x8800GTX’s running in it, and he told me he threw down something-$2500 for it.
Free Microsoft-made Antivirus/anti-malware software. Haven’t checked out the beta so I’m not sure what’s changed. I still rock NOD32 at home and at work.
