I’ve used Firebrand/Dormammu since release day, so I’m aware of their synergies. However, people tend to follow instead of create their own tech. It’s the reason why people like Kusoru and Abegen can show up and blow minds wide open. Everyone is too busy spamming teleports backed by beam assists to notice that there are intelligent, viable combinations of underused characters.
I agree entirely, which is why Amaterasu is not my anchor. Dormammu backed by Cold Stars is just not that great. From what I’ve seen, your team doesn’t have a lot in the way of unblockables, though.
I’m more of a mid air cross-up reset kind of guy and opening people up with lots of bullshit on the screen. I feel like Firebrand backed by drones is extremely solid to the point where I don’t really need to have an unblockable at every turn. Especially since drones negate forward techs. Of course I use unblockables on snapped in opponents but I don’t center my game around them all the time.
I feel like in order to have a successful firebrand you have to make the opponent scared of your entire team. Firebrand/Wolvie is scary because there is no hitch in the rushdown, Wolvie uses fatal claw and switches to luminous Firebrand? Firebrand backed by drones gets up in your face. Firebrand uses Dark Fire -> Beserker Slash/Fatal Claw? You have Wolvie up in your face backed by drones. There’s no pause as with less mobile characters.
Also, I will adamantly state the following: if you’re not picking Firebrand for his unblockable, you could be getting more out of another character. His unblockable is absolutely the only reason to ever pick him. Otherwise you can pick one of the many superior neutral game characters with decent assists and good damage.
I’m not arguing against you, I’m saying this as a kind of follow-up on what shortcomings Firebrand team options have.
If it were me, and I really wanted to use Sentinel Force assist, my team would be:
Firebrand/Skrull/Sentinel.
Skrull/Sentinel is ridiculously good, and you have Tenderizer snapback infinites from Skrull, plus Sentinel Force mix-ups for Firebrand. I think this is a significantly better team than the one you are using currently if one wants a Firebrand team.
As Ive said earlier, I also like my team because of the characters. Its not always about the most optimal selection. I refuse to use people I dont like and Im not fond of skrull. Id rather try to make things work despite weaknesses or flaws. Luckily I have been able to do that with my team, usually by merely switching team order.
I’m not a huge fan of Sentinel, but I might have to give this team a shot. I’ve been using FB/Dorm/Skrull and while it’s effective, I believe you mentioned previously that Dorm and Skrull have a lot of overlap in their synergy with Firebrand. And I feel I’m much better with Skrull over Dorm, so it’s something for me to consider at any rate.
Does anybody know how Zak Bennett did those fireballs so fast when he was near the ground, I dont know what he was cancelling it into and i also cant find a video of it.
Actually, it’s upback-back-back in rapid succession, but I think the above can work too. I treat it like I’m trying to hit Up back 3 times, but I let the angle decay.
I don’t know about the QCB, but I’m pretty sure he’s using wall cling (back-back) as close to the ground as possible and then immediately pressing L to shoot the fireball. I’ve done it myself, but not with the kind of consistency that he does. He’s got crazy good execution.
which i like to think is pretty complete… I hate Sent anchor and i think he is pretty weak as an anchor anyway… plus you have great DHCs… Dark Fire into Plasma Storm midscreen or Corner… Dark Fire into Kitty Helper if Sent gets taken out. Hyper Sentinel Force into Luminous Body for unblockables… Dancing flash into anything…lol.
Plus, Sentinel/Felicia create unblockables. and if i need to switch felicia in i can DHC safely. Felicia backed up by drones is devastating.
ALSO… i think i have a combo where i can get 2 luminous bodies… I no… 2. I am going to post it when i can perfect it.
FINALLY… Luminous body is right behind spiral swords as being one of the most broken install supers in the game… its much better and much longer than wolvies… WHY IS THAT???
Because Wolvie already has great tools to begin with. His dash, damage, and tools make him solid character at all times when backed by nearly any assist. Beserker Charge is really for just for solo beserker slash follow-ups and x-factor bullshit.Think about it for a second, if Wolvie had luminous body he would be nigh unstoppable with any level of x-factor. The dude would be able to meterlesslycombo off his own beserker slash mix-up, Dive Kick would be completely unpunishable, and his dash would travel across the screen in like 1 marvel second.
With luminous body Firebrand becomes a very solid character and his poor damage is made up by the fact that he can outspeed the rest of the cast. If Wolvie had it then he would become *Derpicus Rex.*Anyway for my Firebrand/Wolvie/Sent team I like to use level 2 x-factor with drones because Wolvie can break one million easily with his standard bnb and his mix-ups become crazy. Its risky… but people don’t expect early x-factor as much. Also IMO Sentinel is like a “meh” anchor, not necessarily a weak one. He has the necessary tools to stand on his own. But there are obviously much better anchors. Basically if you have solid defense you can make Sentinel Anchor work.
Sentinel Anchor -
Hyper Sent Force/Air Raid - decent teleport/Jump-in punisher
Armored moves + Speed boost - viable moveset
decent overhead shenanigans with flight.
Frying Pan/Spammable Taunt - Salt Inducer.
Automatic ToD on any hit.
So yeah, he’s nothing special but he’s workable. People tend to become overzealous when facing a Sentinel Anchor. You play smart and all you have to do is land one hit off any of his moves in order to TOD. Also…Giant Robots are cool.
Firebrand is solid without luminous body, but luminous changes firebrand into a completely different character. Firebrand becomes reckless with it, boosting his damage to Normal levels, while building bar at the same time. While wolvies is just an extension… Luminous body makes harder matchups for firebrand sooo much more manageable… Does anyone else have problems with Cap btw? Stupid shield… Anyway I couldn’t imagine wolverine with luminous body… He is already king of derp. Lol.
I agree with you on sentinel anchor, but it becomes increasingly harder to win with anchor sent if the opponent has more than 1 character left. It is funny to cancel into flight for the overhead tho… Lol
Personally, I still say Doom is an excellent partner for Firebrand. The damage DHCs aren’t optimal sometimes, but they’re incredibly safe. Firebrand can usually get in using Photon Array or Sphere Flame as coverfire . Sphere Flame at least does SOME damage at the end of a Dark Fire super, and you can XFactor and do another one. Missiles are excellent pressure as always. If I use Bon Voyage and Firebrand isn’t put into a corner, I can tag to Doom and get a full Doom Corner loop. If Doom does do Air Photon Array as a combo ender on a grounded opponent, Dark Fire hits full. And lastly, we all know Firebrand is so good at carrying into the corner, so learning extended Doom TAC combos adds so much damage to a Firebrand combo, as well as the fact that a LVL3 can be put on the end if desired. I only know a little Doom MnM combos off a TAC and I was able to get 975K+ off of Photon Array and Dark Fire DHC. I got 1.1mil using my LVL3, again with only simple MnM corner combos. Factor in the TAC itself and the meter earned, I can easily get 3 meters for either the DHC or the LVL3 from 0 bar.
If Doom works for you, mad props. Missiles seem to screw everything up in neutral for me. Rocks and Beam scale way too much for my tastes. But I will admit missile unblockables are sweet.
Fair enough. I can’t fault a man for using what pleases him.
Also, your explanation about why Luminous Body can generate meter while Berserker Charge cannot is on point. Sayiing that Luminous Body is better than Berserker Charge is missing the point. While superficially being similar, they accomplish two completely different goals.
There’s an overlap, but the bigger problem is that Skrull does absolutely zilch for Dormammu outside of corner relaunches. Skrull doesn’t get much from Dormammu either.
He was doing a mix of TKed fireballs and wall cling fireballs.
So since this is basically Firebrand GD. I want to get your advice on the Spiderman match-up.
Spidey has the tools to easily keep Firebrand grounded. Namely
-Ultimate Web Throw
Web Throw
-Spider Sting (which is basically invincible since it beats nearly everything
Also Spider-man can web glide cancel any of his moves so Spider Sting/Web Throw can be used without fear of punishment.
In addition Spider-man boasts combo damage unlike Firebrand and has access to Ultimate Web Throw Unblockable Resets which lead to a dead [S]Green Goblin Intern[/S] Firebrand. At least with Spencer, FB has a major speed advantage, Spidey is as agile as Firebrand in the air if not more so. Finally, Spiderman’s hitbox is tiny so high-lows are less suitable against him. Really, the only thing wrong with Spider-man is that his chain normals are sub-par and you really have to practice hit confirming.
So what do we do to beat the wise-cracking web-head with Green Goblin’s Intern? I usually end up switching characters. But there has to be a way to squash this annoying bug…
Luminous body. Helps keep up with spidey. Also makes fireballs faster, I’m not sure but is spidey’s web throw still a projectile, if so… LB fireballs will alleviate the fear of being thrown… Also, this is one of the few matchups where I believe firebrand does better almost full screen away. Just to be safe, only going in with an assist behind him. Thoughts?
I implore anyone playing Firebrand to look into having a good THC.
I play Firebrand/Dormammu/Akuma
With all three characters, it does 530k (600k in XF1). That is stronger than most level threes in the game.
With Firebrand and Dormammu, the THC does 370k. In XF2, it does 550k. (450k in XF1)
With Firebrand and Akuma, it does 300k normally, 425k in XF1 and 500k in XF2
So with any pairing of my characters, I still have a really damaging option in the corners (And Firebrand always takes to the corner).
Obviously, some DHCs do more damage( or gain more meter) than if you do THC, but it gives you the option of keeping Firebrand on point.
I feel like this mitigates Firebrand’s lack of a reliable level 3 and is something that you should look into when building a Firebrand team. The only problem is that some assists really help Firebrand but bring poor THCs to him (Sentinel+Drones, for example).
Actually, you should be imploring Firebrand players to learn TAC infinites or the like. Even the most simple of simple simple Firebrand combos bring people into the corner, meaning that people with excellent TAC combos like Doom, Magneto, or whathaveyou can help mitigate his poor damage.
