this guides helped me alot, thanks for writing it, even tho alex is my secondary, it still helps
There should be plenty of U.S. players w/ matches on YouTube lol. BuffOtaku, aka Joel Benefield (sp!!!) used to use SAI as AA and that might be on YT under the old ffa ranbats, but it’s not that good unless you’re a parrying GOD. I didn’t know this was possible, but I recently saw Genki using st.lk as a Powerbomb tick, and I have been able to use it to this effect as well…
Duralath only has a few matches online, as well as Ghetto D: what a shame! They’re both better than me also (and I don’t just mean in terms of Alex skill lol). I personally think I need to use his kara-throw and the 2-hit jump-in combo of j.hp/j.hk into headbutt more often (more for the stun than the damage). What I wanna know is, is it possible in this game (as opposed to SFA3, for instance) that some jump-ins “knock” the opponent into a standing position so they’ll get hit by some normals (as part of a jump-in combo) that they can usually duck (if they’re a character that crouches very low, like Chun or Oro)?
I know that it’s possible in the game. Urien’s s.mp usually whiffs on crouching Dudley but will hit 100% of the time on crouching Dudley when it’s part of a jump in combo. But, I do not know if Alex can do this to anyone. You would most likely have to test on each character.
Alex’s don’t, I believe. I remember watching a casual match one, and Sanchez wanted to style on the Chun, so he did j.fierce and was gonna follow up with s.strong xx EX Slash Elbow. However, the s.strong whiffed (due to Chun’s hitbox) and the Slash Elbow came out anyway, so the Chun got a free punish.
Safest thing is always to just do close s.forward if you’re close enough. B.fierce hits if you hit the jump-in late. Or some shit like that.
And all the matches of me online are total ass. Just thought I’d say.
Quick question: What beats Remy’s jHP (that he can juggle with Flash Kick)? Because I’ve tried a variety of attacks, and it feels random. And Remy’s jHP comes out fast enough that it can be difficult to parry on reaction.
Maybe s.MP or fwd+FP? Sorry…not in the right place to test it out atm.
EDIT: dwn+FP also comes to mind. Sorry if you’ve tried these already.
Need some advice: What to do against Ken? Ken has no real weaknesses, his footsies are excellent, great block strings, easiest crossup, can juggle with SRK, best SRK in the game, and can cancel almost anything into SA3.
I’ve tried blocking SRK on wakeup, but for whatever reason Ken players are able to deduce that I’m blocking and go for a grab. I’ve mixed it up, I’ve done different things, but just blocking doesn’t work. I read on GGPO that Alex’s LK can interrupt on wakeup. Is this true?
I can handle the other characters pretty well (depends on the player I’m facing, I’ve fought and beaten many Remy’s then I’ve been destroyed by great Remy’s) even the other shotos. It’s just Ken that gives me a lot of trouble.
Stay out of normal throw range.
Can anyone help me out with Necro? Once I’m in close it’s my world, but getting there is rather difficult. Well placed EX elbow slashes and jump parrying get me in sometimes, but obviously these two things do not constitute a stable strategy. I do not really understand how the mind of the Necro player works so whenever I go for parries I get a lot less than if I were playing say, Urien or a shoto. I’m also not really sure how to counter-poke Necro either (or if Alex can even do it efficiently).
Dealing with Necro when he rushes is easy enough for me though, parrying/stand stronging the drill kicks and whatnot. Slowly getting better at red parrying tornado hooks…
The hell are you talking about? EX Slashes and jumping are an awesome strategy!
just fixed my stick and would love to play again its been some time now. Alex is just pure fun
lol. They’re not so awesome when they’re your only way to get in.
Sometimes I try to out-wait them. IMO sometimes random stuff like a roundhouse ddt, sj. d+Fp dive, will at least let them know that you have more than one option.
I’ve decided I’m gonna go ahead and offer my matches online for curiosity’s sake, if nothing else! I’m not that good (I kinda switched to Necro), but I’ve been bringing back Alex (among other characters) lately, and I have some matches of me online on my YouTube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/protectobot My most recent Alex match was among my best performances. I mostly square off against Jamba64, who’s the best Akuma player I’ve played since JR Rodriguez (he’s the most likely to win in a mirror match against him!). I’m slowly starting to get the feel for fighting Akumas. I’m gonna try to get more matches against good players who use other characters.
:u: I’m actually subscribed to your channel (I’m akumazilla). Good stuff man. Wish I saw you guys on ggpo more often. Unfortunately, ggpo is my only way to play other people since the nearest arcade is 1.5 hrs away and I don’t have the time to travel just for games. Great vids btw.
Q: How do you Alex players handle Hugo?
That’s a problem with no solution…:badboy::badboy::badboy:
I’m starting to think that’s true. Hugo’s normal throw, SPD beat powerbomb…Hugo has more stamina so trying to play him at a distance doesn’t work and being in his face is asking to be planted into the ground. I’m starting to think that maybe I need to concentrate on beating the player rather than beating the character.
AHHHH. Good stuff, howzitgoin’? I guess when I get a new comp, I’ll get ggpo, but FIRST, I have to find a damn console stick I like. Thanks for subscribing. I have a few matches vs. Hugo, but that’s not really enough to get a thorough idea of the match-up, and besides: fighting the character AND the player is ideal. Ppl might think Hugo ain’t scary, but if you were fighting someone like Hayao or Matei, it’s like he’s a TOTALLY dif character
Moves-wise, I use a few DDTs and go for more cr.hk sweeps. I try to use DDT after baiting a grab up-close from Hugo (whiffing cr.lp or cr.lk, e.g.) cos he might backbreaker me right out of it otherwise! O_O I also rely on Alex’s best-ranged pokes, such as t+mp. and far st.mk I also try to use flash chop as a shield cos trading hits is likely to be the worst outcome, but I might catch Hugo out of a poke, and get a free elbow slash afterward. It’s true that his powerbomb kinda sucks against him, priority-wise. I have to think it over a bit more cos I don’t get to fight this match very often. I bet Ed still plays Hugo now and then, but I gotta catch him earlier in the day before I go to work cos he’s 1 of those guys who usually just plays early, I’m afraid I was watching some JP matches from Gamersvision, and the Alex player relied on the usual j.lp, then land and do neutral st.mp, ex flash chop if Hugo whiffs a normal grab.
Okay, I feel like an idiot for asking but: Any advice against 12? I think this is one of Alex’s worst matches, because good 12 players (all three of them) are so good at running away and being unpredictable. Plus it seems like 12’s grab is like Uriens’, has a lot of priority, and can beat some meaties. I know with the majority of the cast I can do sMK, into Flash Chop, but it doesn’t work on 12. His grab beats it clean.
his instant air dash makes things tricky but once you can land a knockdown you can seal the match. does d+hp have priority against 12? even if it doesnt trades will definitely be in your favor
