Anyone else? Please?
DDT isn’t exactly something you wanna rely on (unless your name is Sanchez and you believe every waking moment that you can land it). I really only land it when I know my opponent’s going to wake-up with a throw (and I want to make fun of them somehow).
As for your own wake-up, you just have to pay attention to what your opponent’s doing. If he smells stomp, don’t stomp. Quite honestly, you’re better off getting thrown sometimes than eating a big combo of damage because you reacted and put yourself in a disadvantageous state. Learn the opponent’s tendencies and then (re)act accordingly.
As for kara-throw… eh, I catch people with dash-up kara-throw sometimes. It’s just natural. Tick into kara-throw, other bullshit into kara-throw… yeah.
On wakeup just block low if they’re on the ground and switch to blocking high if you see overheads coming, seriously, you might be tempted to use your EX Knee Grab like a shoryuken, but it sucks for that because it doesn’t catch crouched opponents at all.
If they’re in the air then MAYBE do the EX Knee but only if they aren’t attacking yet, if they are you can try to parry then MP -> EX Knee.
Even though it looks great, the DDT is pretty useless unfortunately, on an opponent’s wake-up it’s better if you headbutt, from up close to bait and destroy their throws and from maximum range to surprise people.
The only thing I would try, and I would try it like once per opponent, is to cancel into the DDT during block strings, like j.hk (blocked) -> cr.mk (blocked) -> ddt (either it connects or they crouch/uppercut and you get owned)
It is indeed only one frame. And that’s too bad, because it is Alex’s strongest combo.
You can combo SA2 with F+HP too because those supers have the same startup, it gives you slightly better damage than the usual cl.MK supercancel in most combos but it’s usually not worth risking a goddamn 1-frame link.
Having alittle trouble with Urien. Any advice?
The only way to punished a blocked shoulder from Urien is cr.strong. Remember that.
You can headbutt Urien through the reflector (Alex’s hand isn’t part of his hitbox).
You really have no low options against Urien on wake-up. Sweep is extremely slow and loses to wake-up headbutt (if it whiffs, you still get thrown). Cr.short is a fair enough tick, at least. Usually, I like to hit with something far enough that I can’t get cr.fierced if I’m parried (like far f.strong or something like that). At the very worst, it’ll trade with headbutt.
Watch your spacing.
I main Urien and my buddy plays Alex, so I’ll put in my 2 cents:
B.HP
B.hp can fuck Urien up on wakeup because it does heavy stun and beats wakeup parry, throw, all reversal headbutts, and even reversal EX Aegis. Pretty much any time you feel Urien is gonna get feisty, b.hp is a good option to consider.
J.hp, late j.hp, empty jump throw, and j.lp.
Imo, mixing up your jump-ins is effective versus Urien. Alexs j.hp is hard to anti-air for Urien because it beats s.lp and s.mp and often stuffs t.mp due to its large start up. Urien cant antiair j.hp so his only options are parry, block, or do anticipatory t.mps. When he tries to parry, late j.hp and empty jump throw work as effective counters. And, the better you are at late j.hp-ing, the more effective empty jump throw becomes, because now u can catch him for parrying and for trying to block a late j.hp. The problem with these 2 counters is that they make Alex more susceptible to anti-airs like s.lp or s.mp. J.lp functions as a nice tick because it beats these two anti-airs and can also work when Urien blocks or misparries an anticipated j.hp. So basically, Im just saying mix up your jump-ins which you probably already do! : D
If he does anticipatory t.mps a lot, jump less and counterpoke or ex slash more. If he stands there and tries to react to/counter what you do, dash up powerbomb works surprisingly well.
I forgot to mention that when your late j.hp is parried, you recover in time to block Uriens c.hp, so if he tries it, block and be ready to punish accordingly. Aside from that and what Duralath said about not standing too close to Urien when hes waking up, there are little things to learn. Things like s.mp beats Uriens j.hk, or that after a blocked ex slash you should vary what you do (block, neutral jump, dash/walk back, whatever).
Hope that helps some.
Also, to parry out of midscreen unblockables:
if he does the c.lk guard break parry down 2x and reverse throw
if he does the uoh guard break parry forward x2 and reverse throw
(you have to guess how to parry)
DDT works best in this situation:
Opponent is stunned and is about to die. DDT! Beat them w/ the worst move in the game or is that the Air dive or possibly the stomp, lol. Why oh why does alex have the shittiest move/SA set?
Heabutt beats tackle. Spartan Boot goes through reflector as well. St. Fierce his turtlin ass. Chances are pseudo-smart Urien players will headbutt xx throw on wakeup. St. Fierce, Cr. Short xx Powerbomb, Cr. Fierce, EX SRK + K punish nicely. If Urien blocks Cr. Fierce you can still block or parry his Cr. Fierce.
Meaty back + ferice beats all headbutts even as a reversal on wake up.
lol

Thanks for the anti urien strategies
Thanks heaps for this thread everyone! I am going to use the anti-urien advice I picked up from here. It never occurred to me that Alex’s headbutt beats out Urien’s reversal headbutt! I guess I need to work on my timing on it. Big mahalos.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaakkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk
b.hp beats out a few things for urien and can reach through aegis
If you press back hp sometimes alex will grab the guy and go EYAH! and then they get stunned and THEN… you get to do the alex field goal punt and score 2 points!:party::party:
A field goal’s worth 3 points chief. Duh, you’re clearly a foreigner trying to pass for American, and thus playing Alex ILLEGALLY!!! You should know that I?ve taken ur avatar pic and submitted it to the FBI.
hadouken !!!
Does Alex has a cross up?
Sometimes I have been crossed up by Alex’s j.RH (roundhouse kick). But I think it works best when the opponent is waking up.
