THE Combo Video thread (New Releases + Commentary)

The next post I was going to make was seriously the question, “Where can I get Ode to the 2-Hit Combo?” :stuck_out_tongue: Thanks!

For those of you who haven’t seen it, that video is so good I’m considering subscribing to CV just to get the high-quality version. Even people who don’t play fighting games (I’ve run several tests) think it’s cool.

Battousai forgot to upload some of the rare and old basic combo videos of other fighting games. I wish I he would somehow in the future

majestro, do you keep or have the sai-rec’s DVD? I really wanna buy.

I thought it got scrapped because too many of us SRK fools d/led the vid?

kenryuakuma:
No, i don’t have any of Sai-Rec’s DVDs, not even the Harvest vids. Nor do i know how many Sai-Rec DVDs there were. My guess is that there were only the two Harvest videos. By the time i got around to wanting them, the Sai-Rec guys had pretty much disappeared. Plus all of Japan is grumpy about international shipping so you kind of need a hookup to even bother. I just gave up on trying to get ahold of l33t merchandise. These days whatever i can download without feeling guilty is good enough for me. I told you everything i know the last time you asked the same question. Once again, your best bet is to try contacting Mem or AyanamiLilith, preferably in Japanese. If you don’t speak Japanese, i’m sure you can find someone who does.

Majestros: I think Sai-Rec is the 3rd production, this is the line up if Im not wrong:

**First SAI-REC video: Harvest1 Type-XYZ.1.mpg (130 MB)

Second SAI-REC video: Harvest2 Rain of Death.mpg (314 MB) or harvest2.wmv (82MB)

Third SAI-REC video: Harvest3 SaiRec.mpg (217 MB) or sairec.avi (148 MB)**

The mpeg versions are larger because the video quality is better.

So theres 3 videos made by SAI-REC crew or Harvest crew (they used Harvest name in the first videos then they changed it to SAI-REC.

Also: I also have the video Preview of Sai-Rec 1 (irts 1m36sec) and its only 15 MB (its just the preview from their first Harvest combo vid from CvS2 :wgrin:

master akuma:
As Best Kind Boxer said, the 3rd Sai-Rec video was never completed or released. A bunch of characters are missing from that video (for example Ken). That 148mb version was an advance preview/beta and somehow it wound up getting spread all over the internet. I know that the fact that it got shared all over the internet was a factor in Sai-Rec quitting, but i don’t know how big of a factor. Maybe it was a big issue, maybe it was a small issue along with other issues.

It’s really too bad that after all these years, we still get no updates on what’s going on in the combo video world in Japan. I mean you’d think that eventually, somebody over there would realize that people outside Japan want to buy their videos, and all they have to do is post on one forum. It’s not like they have to go to a bunch of individual BBS’s and talk to 10 people at a time. All they have to do is make on post on SRK and they’ll know if there’s interest for their product or not. But they don’t. I don’t get it.

I asked this in another thread but Majestros, or anyone else on here: would you know of or have seen any slam master II Ring of Destruction videos? I’d love to see what that genei-jin move of Ino’s can do

I do speak Japanese, but I can’t read Japanese. I think you are Japanese American Majestros, aren’t you? I already have three of them of the videos Master Akuma said.

 that was hella random

There’s an old vid by, if i’m correct, Latis (Street Fighter Team?). In all honesty mostly basic stuff, abuse of throwing on getups, some random dizzies here and there performed vs the chars with lower stun resistance, some notable chains. I don’t think it’s available anymore.

If you’re interested, here is a handful of kawaks inps i recorded some months ago after three days of playing. Mostly crappy material but they show a couple of decent links and the basic premise behind the juggle system.

Just curious here, but why doesn’t everyone take advantage of googlevideo/youtube/whatever?

It seems that the FFA crowd already does.

Regardless, it’s a free, stable host with automatic grouping, etc. What are the disadvantages? The quality could be better, but we’re watching SF and it seems good enough to me.

Just a suggestion.

I’ve been out of town this weekend but now i’m back and i have some updates.

First off, Tales of Alyucadia~Fighting side~ is this random site/blog that follows news on a bunch of games. Most of it is pretty minimal, but they have a cool KoFMI K’ combo where he does a bunch of hits past the 10-hit limit by using some bullshit crossup.

(scroll down a bit until the 02/15 update)

Also, Yellow Cyclone updated with a short CvS2 clip featuring Kim and King custom combos. The Kim one is pretty basic, but i like the King one. She does Double FB and cancels into whiff s.LP as soon as the first FB connects, then walks forward and does s.HP xx Double FB again. Kinda cool.

(click on third link on top row)

Um, no dude. Not even close. I just go to different combo video pages and click on everything, then find their links page and click on everything there. Once in a while i get lucky. Also, translation pages like Altavista’s Babelfish help a lot.

movie page:http://page.freett.com/henvoke/index.html

Henvoke upped some more KoF XI vids. This game is funny. It’s like marvel, but not as fun because only 1 character can triangle dash. (I don’t actually know this I haven’t played it, but it looks that way.)

Yo, I’m mirroring 30 vids from SFEX2+: Uploaded 4 Bonus Mode Videos (Barrel, Satelite and Excel), and 26 Combo Videos. All are Mirrored from http://ryo1369.hp.infoseek.co.jp/EX2/EX2index.html Most of them do require the VP62 codec, so you’ll have to find it but a quick search on google will do the job.

Most of the excels are ok, but the Barrel Mode one was perfect… I’m mean completely perfect.

Combo transcripts are on the site that I linked to. Just click on the character that has a “play” button on their screen select icon and that has videos. But any of them that are “dulled out” don’t have anything. No combovideos or information.

For those of you still interested in Capcom Fighting Jam / Evolution, AyanamiLilith recently posted a whole bunch of match vids. This was at least a week ago but i guess i forgot to mention it. There’s a lot of character variety and a lot of different players to be seen.

I know it’s super late, but let me chime in with Robyrt here about the analysis. Some very good points are made about meter value, usage, and conservation. In addition to other insights, I really enjoyed hearing your thoughts about when it was reasonable to sacrifice meter, the matchups of grooves, etc. On the other hand, a few of the insights are really basic when you get down to it.

For example: It’s frequently noted when players use super meter unsuccessfully, and it’s brought up as a key reason for losing matches. No real surprise here; missing supers loses matches. But at the same time, you criticize a C-Blanka player for getting hit by a CC while holding full meter. So which is it? If you’re more careful about wasting your meter, you’re also more likely to end up waiting around with a full meter, right? (Update: I guess I’m kinda slow, but you probably meant that Mr. C-Blanka should have used an alpha counter somewhere, or something. Still, I’d be curious to hear how you would have recommended using meter, especially if no chance to use a super presented itself.)

Anyways, maybe all that really means is that these aren’t actually matches between equal players, or that somebody got lucky. Or maybe I can’t understand high-level play. Thanks for all the quality posts! Even if I disagree with part of it, I was very interested to hear your thoughts about CvS2 strategy.

A-Groove is inherently the strongest meter system in the game, because it’s so versatile. Its only weakness is that it always involves a lot of hits so it gives the opponent a lot of meter, blocked or landed, especially with A-Sakura and A-Bison. I think a big part of winning against A-Groove with C-Groove is meter management. In particular, you have to make sure that you always get meter whenever the other guy uses CC.

That means you need reliable ways of landing that lvl3 super as soon as you get it, to avoid sitting on meter. Guile for example is very good at this, because he can punish a lot of stuff with Sonic Hurricane and if nothing else is working, he can just throw it out on a guess and he’s safe if it’s blocked. So later on when the opponent does CC, Guile gets two levels of meter from blocking or getting hit by the CC. Since lvl3 supers don’t do nearly as many hits as most top tier CC’s, you don’t really have to worry about the flipside of this.

In the matches discussed above, i think Mago should have taken more risks with his meter. For example, once he noticed that his opponent was about to have full meter, he should have gone for Blanka’s meaty crossup lvl3 super. Yes it’s a guess, but like i said - if you can’t put a lvl3 super to use, you’re using the wrong character. I’m pretty sure if C-Honda had survived the match against Sakura, Mago would have gone for a lvl3 grab super even though those are never guaranteed.

On the other hand, i think it’s a bad idea for C-Groove to throw away meter at K-Groove. It’s kind of difficult to predict when K-Groove will have meter, and in those situations it’s very helpful to have a lvl3 charged to limit their offensive options.

Persona just released the trailer for his upcoming NBC combo video. It’s hosted on Cyberfanatix and if you’re gonna get it anyway you might also want to check out a bunch of match vids from MK Deception and MK Shaolin Monks (yeah, random).

Also, i thought this random theatrical performance of Ryu and Ken learning how to throw fireballs was pretty funny. The audience seemed to be getting the references too, which is kinda surprising.

The Electrifying One:
Sorry, i haven’t run across anything from Slam Masters.

Best Kind Boxer:
If people don’t use YouTube/Google/whatever it’s probably because they already have decent hosting plans and like the old way of doing things. You can’t download files off any of those streaming sites. Well, maybe you can, but it’s a lot of trouble. Eventually i’m sure more people will buy into those new sites, but i don’t think hosting issues are really what’s slowing people down. I mean, these days there are a bunch of sites that would gladly host videos for you if you make a good video and/or ask nicely (like ComboVideos and Preppy’s site).

KabukiMono and ShinjiGohan:
Nice finds. Thanks for the heads up.
