THE Combo Video thread (New Releases + Commentary)

But, more importantly: First, thanks for all the hard work. I checked Video Opera regularly while it was being updated, and now that it’s gone, I know it’s missed. Of course, there’s still a place for updates to be found; so thanks for keeping this thread going. In all honesty, I’m your biggest fan.

Still, I kind of liked having a web page to check. Having a built-in community is great, but I think there’s a lot to say for a place you don’t have to log in to, one that offers RSS, etc., etc.

Anyways, I thought to myself that maybe I could make that kind of a page… you know, if nobody else is going to. And of course, I didn’t think about checking Shoryuken about this stuff until I had already got about half of it set up. I think there’s room for both, though. I’ve just got a little web page with a little PHP news script on it, and it’s not quite ready for prime time, but why don’t you check out what I’ve put up so far? I thought of a catchy name and everything. Obviously, most of the videos are here, too, and some of the most recent ones were stolen directly from here, but there should be some new stuff there, and a few others I posted first.

I’d be happy to let more people join me as a news poster, although I’m sure you know that good help is hard to find. I’ve repeated a few of your updates, but I hope you don’t see it as plagiarism. Check it out. It needs a lot of work, but this is a pretty good start, I think.

Incruentum:
First off, you rock for seeing a problem/deficiency and trying to do something about it. Second, i like your website name and design, along with the uber-useful search function. Third, i agree that it sucks having to log in to view this thread, and the justification that it forces more people to register on SRK is kind of a weak one to me. I mean, people should register if they have something to say. We shouldn’t make lurkers register because if they didn’t care enough to register in the first place, they probably don’t have anything useful to add to the discussion. I think it’s better to let them decide when they’re ready to participate.

But on the other hand, i’ve come to the conclusion that if you’re going to put work into something, it should benefit something you want to support. In other words, make sure you know what you’re promoting. In its own small way, this thread supports/promotes SRK. Of course SRK is an empty site with next to zero content, but it’s still the premier gathering spot for the SF community. There are two main reasons why Sonic Hurricane doesn’t have any kind of feedback system, like a forum or BBS:

  1. Noble reason: Every person posting a question or idea on my forum would be one less person posting that same question or idea in the CvS2 Strategy section on SRK.
  2. Selfish reason: I’ve designed my site in a way that most questions about video content are answered beforehand, to avoid having to answer the same questions over and over.

When VidOp first started, it was supposed to provide a haven for the combo video community and to encourage combo video makers to discuss ideas, projects, collaborations, problems, etc. but due to poor execution on our part, that forum never got off the ground. So towards the end of the whole thing, it really started to bug me that VidOp was getting 500 hits per day just capitalizing on gaining attention for video makers’ work and not converting that attention into anything useful for the community. (As you can tell, i get really annoyed reflecting on all the ways in which VidOp failed and the only reason i don’t talk shit outright is because <3 LB).

So my big question is this: Suppose you get your website as popular as VidOp during its peak. How are you going to use that to benefit the community? (It’s easy/automatic to think of the community as SRK, but you could conceivably create your own medium for community interaction/discussion - although anyone running SF websites will tell you that it’s next to impossible to compete with SRK.) Alternatively, if you have problems with SRK (as many people do), what do you intend to promote instead?

Cuz if your goal makes sense to me, then i’ve got absolutely no problem with you posting updates from this thread. I’d even help get the word out about your site by linking to your site, mentioning it in random discussions on random forums, and anything else i could think of.

As a follow-up to that crazy NBC video i posted on page 12, there’s kind of an expanded version available now. Seems like Azu573 and T-7 are friends or something, cuz they collaborate on SNK combo video projects a lot. This video shows some of the same clips without the choppy edits, but i still can’t quite figure out how they’re getting so many characters onscreen at once. The last Terry/Rock combo was awesome though. I bet Magnetro wants to play this game now.

Howard arena is updated with 1 match from a two on two.

http://www.challenger.jp/
Challenger has 1 Tekken 5 DR vid. Pretty good stuff with Marduk and king, the game looks just that little bit more fun than tekken 5 where I may actually play it.

Game41 updated with some matches for KOF XI, you can see Silver as a playable character, he looks sorta like blanka (not in gameplay but actual looks)

Oh and Crazyasskim has an INO match if you guys didn’t know.

Edit:
Ko-hatsu also updated with some new stuff.
SStenka featuring more of the nicotine thats in so many of there matches.
And Rumblefish 2. Aran just seems so easy to win with. But maybe thats me.

Incruentum,

I visited your site, and was quite surprised to see my latest clip linked(Throwback to OhSeaV on obot64.com)…I added a comment, but it does not appear. I assume either it hasn’t been posted yet, or the comment part is still a work in progress.

Thank you for your efforts.

That NBC character thing is when you kill someone with a super team special. Unless there are 4 at once, in which I dont know what the fuck they did.

Haha, the new version of the NBC video brings me oodles of joy. The Terry and Rock combo also gets my approval.

Did I just see Amakusa do a c.MSlash - c.MSlash link combo?

BTW, where are the SSTenka matches at Ko-Hatsu? Movie link there didn’t help much.

Ooooooooooooooh sorry I thought everyone knew, for ko-hatsu, you click on the event page not the movie page, the movie page is them trying to sell there dvds.

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry about the comments! I hadn’t checked them recently - I’ll get 'em fixed and post another message when I’m done with it.

I was personally thinking a 2ch/futaba/wakaba/kareha style board might be very well suited to video game combos and such… In the end, I ended up trying what you see now, but it was because I thought that contributions would probably be fairly limited. Maybe that’s a self-defeating attitude, I don’t know. This way has a lot more structure, but it comes at a price.

Anyways, thanks for the comments and suggestions. I’ll make a reply in a little while, but I want to get comments and some other stuff sorted out first.

I hope nobodys hotlinking and stealing my bandwith… thats just wrong >.<

I saw it…

I don’t get it.

Slow day i guess. Anyway there’s a tool-assisted speedrun of NES Fist Of The North Star on Bisqwit’s NESVideos. Watch it if you’re bored. Wait for something better if you’re not.

Someone please translate THIS page

Is there some page in particular you wanted to read? It’s a big website.

A lot of this stuff… http://www.geocities.co.jp/Playtown-Domino/3677/system.htm I think it’s too much though :-/

Im looking for this cvs2 match vid, that has some guy parrying all of kens Hurricane kick. They were saying its like the daigo vs wong vid cept for cvs2. Someone find it please!

I’ve actually seen a few match vids of Chun-Li’s Kick super being eithered fully parries or fully just defend.

I think this one is recent though.

That vid was floating around not too long ago. I think Justdefend.com has it.
