Three new CvS2 matches on crazyasskim featuring Combofiend, Valle, and EvilElvis against Kim. Starting at 1:55 in the EvilElvis video, Kim pushes 21(!!)buttons with Sagat and hits absolutely nothing. It’s pretty damn funny. And check out Valle doing meaty s.HK, c.MP 2-hit combo with Guile.

Nice find Maj (Ese Dancers). They even have combos for Fighting Layer.
damn! Majesto is such a hella tight combo contributor. Hella good Majesto. By the way, I am just wondering if you are able to contact Sai-Rec…I have been trying to get in touch with him but it seems that he is so busy. I heard that he still has some DVD for sale, I am not really sure…That’s the reason why I am trying to get in touch with him.
Nah, i haven’t heard from anyone in Sai-Rec in at least 6 months. And i haven’t heard about any videos/DVDs/projects by them in years. You might also try contacting Mem (main combo programmer in Sai-Rec) and AyanamiLilith (video editor for Sai-Rec videos) but i don’t think you’re gonna have much luck. Most of those guys got jobs, got married, or got hooked on Ragnarok Online or WoW or something.

There’s something i wanna try. I had this idea over three years ago but never got around to telling anyone about it (except for omni and maybe like one other person - can’t remember). I’m gonna analyze a couple of CvS2 match videos from a different perspective, so you should download them and watch them first. Kim’s site is convenient cuz it has recent high-level matches.

(scroll down to the 1/30/05 update and download the two Otaku matches and the Mago match)
So my claim is that a CvS2 match between two players of the same skill level can be viewed as a contest of super meter management. The player who gets the most out of their super meter via efficiency and timing will win. I’m not sure how much this will help you when playing, because maybe these are hindsight-only observations.
First off, the Otaku vs Bas match. This is an example of bad meter management on both sides, which explains why Otaku won. The only way for K-Groove to beat A-Groove is for the A-Groove player to throw away meter. The first time K-Rock gets meter he fucks up the combo. The second time K-Rock gets meter, A-Vega throws away his meter on a guessed activation and then uses it to waste 60% of Rock’s rage timer. I think this is a mistake on Bas’ part because A-Groove meter is worth more and harder to come by than K-Groove meter. The third time K-Rock gets meter it kills him, so Bas goes an entire round without getting hit by super which is the only reason he wins after throwing away his own meter during the round. Once A-Bison comes in with full meter, Bas gets all tricky with the throws and uses the threat of super to get some free damage. Unfortunately he fails to get Otaku to stick out a limb and throws away yet another bar full of A-Groove. Lucky for Bas, his CC outlasts Hibiki’s rage and she dies before she has a chance to get meter again. Otaku’s meter management in the Kyo vs Bison match is excellent, as he winds up with 70% meter and gets almost all of his lifebar refilled (taking recoverable damage for meter while killing leftover characters is one of the big advantages of K-Groove). And again, A-Blanka uses CC to do get 10% damage. So Bas lands zero CCs in this match and anytime K-Groove can get away with avoiding CCs entirely, it should add up to a loss for A-Groove. If that happens and you still can’t beat A-Groove, you should consider dropping K-Groove because you can’t hope for a better shot than that.
Next up, the Otaku vs Kindebu match. Right off the bat, A-Sakura gets rocked bad. She divekicks into K-Rock when he’s ready for it and it gets JD’d so now she’s gotta do something or she’s gonna get command thrown into super. She activates (guessing wrong) and Otaku was counting on that so his well-timed lvl3 super wins out. She loses 40% life plus half her meter and it was her own damn fault for getting into that lose/lose situation. Then K-Rock manages to lose 80% of his lifebar and only gets meter once, so the only thing he gains out of that whole round is that he sacrifices K-Rock to take away the other half of A-Bison’s meter that was left over from the first round. Bad trade. Then K-Hibiki lands a super and A-Bison activates on a failed guess, which puts Hibiki in the lead until she fucks up somehow and gets hit by the rest of the CC. Again, K-Kyo uses the leftover character to gain 70% meter for free. Too bad he gets brave with the wakeup throw while raged and gets hit by A-Blanka CC, losing 40% life and wasting too much rage timer. Because of this mistake, he is unable to inflict enough damage fast enough to kill off A-Blanka before A-Blanka builds up another full meter. Luckily, A-Blanka throws away that meter once again, and K-Kyo gets another opportunity to pull out a clutch win. Lots of good choices and small mistakes by Otaku. Lots of bad choices and small triumphs by Kindebu. If this match wasn’t so far in A-Groove’s favor, Otaku would have won by a comfortable margin.
Finally, the Kindebu vs Mago match. A-Sakura gets through this bad matchup only by throwing away her meter and by getting lucky with a bullshit mixup (CC activate, make Honda block something, roll past the failed Alpha Counter command, and punish - if the Alpha Counter had come out Honda would have recovered in time to block but instead he got a super-late s.MK while Sakura was about to recover from her roll). At the start of A-Bison vs C-Sagat, A-Bison has 10% meter and C-Sagat has 100% meter. This is an indication that C-Honda won the match against A-Sakura. Too bad C-Sagat throws away two levels of meter on a guess. If that random s.HP xx lvl2 super had connected, C-Sagat would have had a huge lead on Bison and the initiative. Instead C-Sagat gets raped and A-Bison starts the next round with full meter. The biggest mistake of the match happens here: C-Blanka gets hit by A-Bison CC while C-Blanka has full meter. You get almost two levels of meter for getting hit by Bison/Sakura CC and you fucking need those two levels of meter to beat them. Never ever get into a situation where you’re sitting on meter. If you can’t find a use for it even when you know you’ll get it back for free, you’re doing something wrong. So now Kindebu gets the luxury of sacrificing Bison in exchange for a little damage and full meter for A-Blanka and that’s game. Is it surprising that Mago lost by such a large margin? Hell no, he didn’t get anything at all out of his meter.
Okay bunch of updates.

Henvoke has two Hokuto Matches, and two SS tenka matches. The Hoku matches seem pretty good, as do the tenka matches.

A lot of that CvS2 match analysis is just “well, he missed CC activation so he lost.” Well, duh - supers are by far your most powerful tool for victory, so if you can’t land your supers, you’ll have trouble winning by definition. That doesn’t show how the better meter user is the winner, it shows how supers are too good.
Anyone still interested in NeoGeo Battle Colosseum should check out this combo video. It’s got some crazy setups that make no sense, like getting way too many active characters onscreen.

(look for hame_4370.lzh and left-click on it then save or something)
Hameko is some kind of Japanese upload service, but 90% of the stuff on there is either some fucking random trailer to some fucking random RPG title or an old combo/match video being reposted. I usually avoid bringing attention to that site because i’m afraid people will just download random crap and the site will run out of bandwidth then die. Plus it’s rare for CvS2 combo stuff to appear on there these days so i haven’t had anything to bring up. And i think Sabin mentioned it pretty early on in the thread. Anyway, whatever, enjoy.
Robyrt:
How does it not show that the better meter user is the winner?
just come back from long holiday …
where’s dji’s 2nd upcoming PJ combovideo ?
where’s KYSG’s vol 7 3s combovideo , feat ryu …
Majestros: Hameko is a famous japanese tekken player FYI, I believe that’s his site.
By the way, that site gets hella hella hits on a daily basis. Look at their hit counter on the top of the page. That uploader is used for all kinds of random shit, Korean Tekken players use it to posts gigs of match videos etc. That site is really a great resource, and i’m sure there mad shit on there I’m missing since I can’t read japanese.
Anyway, if yall remember my last post theres another kof95 batch set on hameko. Havent watched it yet

This is my philosiphy with like, every game past ST (and sometimes ST), the super meter = win. I was thinking about going back through and watching a ton of tournaments and writing down who landed more meter, but it would be a letdown to the new kids if we told them that SF now was just a big meter war, so i let it go.
That NBC vid made me loled in a good way. Loved it. Reminds me of Sai-rec’s CvS2 style with weird ass setups while Dream Maker’s style is more on hardcore combos like mem.
BTW, does their site explain how to do the thingy with the entire team on screen? I went to their site and most of the combos written there make no sense at all, which probably means it needs the entire team onscreen set up.
can someone post up where to get that ngbc combo video its not working ne more
Keep trying, it worked for me on the second try. I cant wait to watch this
Since supers are your biggest way to deal damage (especially in A-Groove), saying “the better meter user wins” is like saying “the person who misses the fewest opportunities for damage wins”, which isn’t much of an observation. However, the super meter is a nice big visual indicator of missed/taken damage opportunities, and people should pay more attention to carrying over their K-groove meter, so your point isn’t really moot at all.
I found a random Japanese site with a bunch of Samurai Shodown glitches. Some of them look pretty interesting. It looks like projectiles still move during superfreeze, and Basara can use his super-slow-moving projectile to hit people while the screen is frozen. Maybe they can’t block or something. Then there’s a whole bunch of other crap i don’t understand. I dunno, maybe some of you will dig it.

So a couple of people have asked me why i don’t try to revive VidOp if i’m just gonna run a VidOp emulator on SRK anyway. Well, aside from a bunch of personal reasons, the main reason is that honestly i think this format works better.
People are more likely to add in their own comments if it’s an SRK thread. Plus people help out with video updates now and then, and trying to get that done on VidOp would be a hassle. Either i’d have to give open access to everyone in which case some idiot(s) would ruin it by attention whoring. Or i’d have to have people post in a separate thread so i could copy/paste onto the front page in which case i’d be getting credit for someone else’s work and no contributors would keep that up for long.
In the final analysis, i don’t have time for doing hardcore stuff anymore. I’ve got this article i’ve been trying to write about making combo videos, and weeks go by without any progress at all. I’ve had a couple of combo video ideas written down in little .txt files for over year, and i’ll probably never get around to doing those. But, i still want to contribute something to the community and this thread is basically the grandest thing i can do with the time i have to spend.
thedude.com:
People don’t really announce combo video releases here so i don’t have any info about those vids for you. If anyone is working on a project and wants some free publicity, feel free to give us updates on whatever you’re working on. Go ahead and plug your site or whatever you have to do.
Sabin:
Cool, thanks for the clarification. Actually like two weeks ago, the site went down for about a week, which had me worried. But you’re right, it seems like it’s capable of handling quite a bit of traffic.
FMJ:
I think meter is more important in CvS2 because of the way the round system is set up. It’s like you’re playing one long continuous round because the lifebars never get reset. So even in A3 (which was complete meter-fighter), you could win a round by 5% life with 0% meter left over against your dead opponent’s full meter, and you would be considered way ahead. But in CvS2, that would almost be considered a loss, as illustrated in the Kindebu/Mago Sakura vs Honda match.
Persona:
No clue how any of that is done, sorry. I got pretty lucky even finding the video, and i don’t know if we’ll ever get an explanation. I remember back when Sai-Rec videos of Kim infinite first started showing up, nobody knew what the hell was going on. It didn’t take long to figure out how to duplicate it, but it took us like a year to figure out why it worked and how to expand on it.
Robyrt:
I think there are a number of subtle things going on that go above and beyond a simple visual indicator for missed damage opportunities, and i’ll try to illustrate some of those in future writeups.
Good Majestros.
ComboVideos has a couple of interesting old videos. First off, there’s Know Skill’s MvC2 Combos Vol2 by ShadyK and Genghis. I remember one time i was at Valle’s house for some BBQ thing and everyone was sleeping on the floor. At one point Clockw0rk, Genghis and ShadyK woke up and started playing MvC2 in training mode. It was pretty amazing to watch cuz they would play for like 2 minutes and notice something odd, then mess around with it on the spot and exploit it to make up crazy new combos. Then they’d go back to shooting each other until something else went wrong. It’s always awesome to see someone else’s creative process.
Also, in case there’s anyone out there who hasn’t yet seen James Chen’s Ode to the 2 Hit Combo video, the medium quality version just got reposted.
