when do you actually press j.hp? at what height jump? he seems to be able to always walk under it if he blocks crossup

You have to jump almost immediately after Vega stops from his dash animation (but not hold up forward while dashing) and press j.hp relatively early.
You can also time it by watching Adon’s wake up animation. If you time it perfectly he can escape only by wake up forward dash.

Hmmm so think its worth putting into the Adon matchup setups? Or better to just stick with a usual 4-frame setup?
If so, how would you write it up?

EX FBA cross up
- Izuna drop, dash forward, wait split sec (almost immediately), Jump forward HP.
(hits on crouch and jump, makes DP reversal whiff)** (only escape is forward dash or late dp reversal)**

i tried it many times, still didn’t work. maybe it’s a pc thing

if the timing is hard, i tend to not attempt it. the only people i won’t do anti srk setups would be on cammy, and akuma with u1. sure it works, but the price of paying if in that 50% of the time you really do stuff up, it’s not worth it. sure, getting grabbed by any other character is fine…just not cammy, haha

I’ll give it a go before adding anything, but i’m sure if you couldnt get it to work on PC i don’t have much chance lol
I’m taking a break from the character matchup posts by analysing that insane makoto video and writing down the setups…
Probably an incredibly nonviable thing to add to any match haha but god some of that stuff is insane…

I did it in a video for you guys.
It’s in sequence: wake up neutral stick,blocking normally, blocking crossup, jumping, crouching, reversal uppercut.

yeap, i got that exact timing etc. it just doesn’t work on pc no matter how much i tried. i’ll give it a go next time on an xbox when i get a chance

oh and yes, late air grab gives you a maximum of 6 frames air time

Interesting, I will test it tonight on Adon. Might be a good time to use that Okizeme tool shabrout released a couple of days ago.

On an unelated note, regarding EX FBA Cross-Up Set-Ups: It seems that there is no mention of Izuna Drop, mST, crouch animation (the ususal 3(?) frame delay), EX FBA. If found this cross up to be al lot more reliable than the CH one. Though it might just be me. I have a lot of success with that even in online play (~10% cross-up hits). It is also the only thing that mST is useful for.

Thoughts in comparison to the CH or crHK or crHP setup?

I use the CH setup occasionally. You have a quite big frame window to do CH after izuna. Then you have to do ex.fba immediately when you see the opponent waking up. Its probably at the first frame of their wake up animation

So the mST set-up seems easier since you can concentrate on vega himself rather than on the opponent. Also since you do the mST instantly after the initial Izuna you only have to manually time one move insteat of two (the CH and the EX FBA).

Regarding the Adon ross-up: I’ve tested it yesterday and If the Cross-Up HP hits, then it gets blocked if I block in the other direction. The HP doesn’t whiff on me. PC, no vsync; ingame or drivers site. 120 FPS in the ingame crumbled lab benchmark.

Yes timing m.st after izuna is easy so probably that setup is more convenient for you.
About CH you also have to time only one move (ex.fba) because you have a huge frame window to do CH. The tricky part is to focus on the wake up animation of the opponent.
For me, I find it easier to time the ex.fba after the CH maybe because it leaves you closer to the opponent or because I am more used to it.

why the heck can’t i do this before…ugh…seems the timing is exactly the same as when you crossup juri and rufus. but on those characters, even if you fail, it hits front, i love that mix up. for adon, it’s either crossup or whiff, not really a mind game…everyone apparently expect it to crossup anyway

Regarding the ex.fba crossup after forward throw, it doesn’t work on Juri as it whiffs if she wakes up crouching.
For every other character the google doc is correct for that setup.

This should be a primary source for everything chraracter specific. First: “This is gold Jerry, pure gold!”, Second Haztlan wanted to publish it in a shiny way anyhow so I guess he doesn’t mind if somebody else uses it as long as credit is given. And last: I think you should ignore the unblockable set-ups for your guide as of now, since it was said by capcom they would try to get rid of them in Ultra. So they might be obsolete sooner than later.

I just found a pretty cool trap that I’m about to add which ups ultra 1s potential quite a bit.
Cr.lp x2-3 (to when the opponent expects/trained to expect a Kara grab), walk forward a tiny bit as you input U1, to visually que the ‘oh he’s going to Kara grab’ reaction, and then punish with U1.

But yeah haha these notes won’t be dying anytime soon :slight_smile:
