Weekend @ Casa de orka III: It’s Labor Day baybeee!!
Date: Saturday, Sep. 5 Time: 3:00 p.m. ~ 1:00 a.m. Location: Lincoln Square in Chi Systems: PS3, PS2 Games: MBAA, BB (plus SF4 and other games if enough interest shown)
This time around, I would really like to make this a MBAA-oriented gathering. We can play other games as well, but I am looking for people that would really like to play or learn MBAA.

Spoiler
Set-up specifics:
The PS3 is connected to a 40" Bravia through HDFury2, which is virtually lag-less (6ms; less than half-frame delay). The people that’s played on my set-up can attest to this.
The PS2 is also connected to the 40" Bravia through HD Box Pro, which is supposedly virtually lag-less as well (and also makes PS2 games look beautiful through video upconversion), but I haven’t had the opportunity to run tests on it.
If you would like to bring a set-up of your own, I would definitely welcome that as well.
Please bring your own sticks/controllers!
Dining options:
I live in the heart of Lincoln Square, where there are literally dozens of local restaurants and bars within walking distance. There are also standard fares such as McDonald’s, Burger King, Potbelly, Jimmy John’s, Subway and Little Caesars all within 3-block radius as well.
Nom nom nom. :grrr:
Parking:
You will need to park roadside, but shouldn’t have much trouble looking for open spots in my neighborhood.
PM me if interested!! My apartment is somewhat small, so I will be addressing people on first-serve basis.
Birthday Brawl! 9-11-09 3pm-whenever
It’s my b-day next weekend (the 11th, the worst day ever) and will be holding my first of hopefully many gatherings.
Addy: 7100 N Clark. North Rogers Park area, will PM exact address, duh.
Setups: Big ass Phillips & an ok sized SDTV. I have but one PS3, so if we want more games going, another system will have to be brought. I also only have one stick, so if you got another, please bring it. We have the space for 3 setups, but probably not necessary. Also, I live on the 4th floor. If you want to lug a monitor be my guest.
Games: SF4 mostly with BB on the side. Hopefully with another setup we can run both. Other games are plenty welcome if demand rises.
Transportation: Rogers Park is relatively good with parking as long as you don’t get here too late. No permits/meters in my general area, besides on clark. I am also very close to the morse red line stop, the clark bus, and the metra (Rogers park stop, north line).
Stuff: I have a cat, so if you hate them you’re SOL. If you’re allergic please take that claritin. She is also insane, but declawed in the front.
I do have beer, but it’s my birthday, so bring some! Greenery is also welcome. If you smoke squares, we will tolerate it indoors, but I’m assuming other people won’t, so we got a porch for ya.
There are plenty of great places to eat all around, but I will be ordering some baller ass pizza regardless.
Our place can hold a considerable amount of people, but it is still first come first serve. Hype hype hype etc. Bring a gift maybe? (beer is a gift)
PM and see you there
Tournament tomorrow, let’s go people! If you don’t have a partner, come along and show up anyway. Many are going for the support and the free play afterward, so some simple chicago-style persuasion might work.
Date : Friday, September 25th Time : 12PM to 12AM, or whenever you feel like showing up Games : BB, HDR, SF4, GGXAC, Garou, XVSF, Gundam Battle Assault 1&2 Location : 46W979 Country Lane
Maple Park IL 60151 What to Bring : Systems, controlers, sticks, converters if needed
Whats up : Basically a gathering for ANYONE who wants to play. We got two tv’s (62" and a 20") with little to no lag. We can have a setup in my room and the living room if we want to play two different games, also I have my laptop so we can play older games VIA MAME.
might be doable, jake.
my dad has a 42" dlp he found in a dumpster at his work (xsport fitness dumpsters ftw) and it still works fine. I need to lag test it out at their place, and I’ll probably end up picking it up if it’s minimal or no lag. I’m really not sure how dlp’s measure up in lag.
but yeah if I end up doing that next friday, might just stop by your place if I’m out in the area. that and I can contribute another 42" tv if it lag tests ok
I’ll see next weekend. All depends on if the vga has post processing on it.
If it sux it sux, and I can probably just use it for watching blurays in my bedroom.

Rules:
No alcohol in the store allowed… If you want I don’t care if you drink in your car…but ill get back to that one. Please don’t be the loud annoying guy that wants attention, be respectful as not everyone wants to hear your loud ass. Not saying you cant make noise just don’t overdo it! MM are fine as long as things don’t get out of hand, no real fights in other words! In other words show your maturity guys and we will get a bit more lenient on some of the rules.
Food:
As far as food is concerned I was thinking of ordering some pizza from a local place and selling big slices to you guys for a decent price. Most likely we will do this around 7:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M. if this takes off. But if you want to bring your own food or even order some delivery you can do that too! There is quite a bunch of restaurants around the area.
After Party:
If you are over 21 then by all means you can join us for a few drinks at a bar right after the gathering!!!
So here you are guys a great place for you guys to level up together, come compete hard and level up together to show that Chicago isn’t here to mess around! Our goal is to make this every weekend and with all the venue fees get more and more equipment so no one will ever need to bring anything! We now have 3 of our own tube tvs for now(thanks to the first tournament and Rob) so we are slowly working our way to our goal, but surely!
Any questions or comments go for it! But if you need to get a hold of me then by all means you can reach me at (630)201-3937
sounds good D, you can probably put me down for a full setup, although I’m not 100% sure if we have any plans for saturday night.
also I fully understand $$ is going to pay for costs & future needs, but $10 for a gathering does sound a bit steep.
especially if you bring a full setup from your house for others to play on and you still gotta cough up half the price, it’s not much of an incentive for people to donate when it’s needed.
$10 for 7 hours of play is very cheap(i use to spend $20 in tokens back in the day easy!), really you already know what the venue fees are for. For the most part id always have a bunch of people bring systems over for my gatherings so I really don’t see how this is any different. The only incentive people need is to get better and have fun, if $10 - $5 is going to get in the way of an individual showing up then by all means don’t show up. The ones coming will love it and continue to level up and have fun!
really 10$ isnt that bad with good perspective, even though you cant win anything, if you consider the quality of the competition, the location, people, and games there worth it you should go.
When I was in japan i spent about 10 dollars like every hour and a half at A-cho just to keep playing. so for 7 hours 10 bucks that also makes the place better isn’t that bad.
Also practically noone ever wins significant money from fighting games in japan and they keep playing because they just like to, but we aren’t so lucky as Americans with an extremely limited scene, we also have to support the few places where we can play if we want to keep playing like we want to.
that being said having at least 1 or 2 tournaments would boost attendance alot just for incentive sake.
$10 is questionable for a “gathering.” Some people are coming from the city and gas ain’t cheap! Carpooling negates that I suppose.
I want a damn slice of pizza for a $10 entry fee!!!
Edit: I was just thinking about it…whats the point of a MCM gathering when it could just be a tournament? If I’m paying $10 I’d like to see some brackets. Then it would turn into a tournament with no prize since we only pay venue fee. So basically it saves SF4 players $10 dollars to play either casuals or a prize-less tournament.
Syxx im waiting on that t6 to come out so we can get some of them WI players down here for gatherings / tournaments!
Also do NOT count me out on throwing random tournaments at gatherings!
RichL i totally feel ya on that, but you also have to think that its a building that doesnt belong to us so we have to support it in some way. Chicago’s NEEDS a place for us to breed comp so bad…its our downfall atm.
My next step is to open up my own arcade definitely in the near future hahaha!!!
Yeah playing at MCM is an awesome venue + the social aspect of it makes the trip out there all worthwhile. I’m just a cheap bitch with no transportation other than one friend who lives in Chicago with me.
If it were tournament style, I’m sure people wouldn’t wanna pay $10 with the fear of going 2-and-out. Without the pressure, everyone can have fun and enjoy the time spent leveling up.
That said, FML. I can’t make it this weekend, but if these are gonna be bi-weekly or monthly, I’m planning for the next one. Rock on D!
