Iām still a huge noob when it comes to chess (just finished Pandolfiniās Ultimate Guide) so not sure what I can contribute but great thread
Chess is gonna be mainstream once more after the world championship in November
@BEWD The great thread that only @Jion_Wansu posts in. I would like to make one but there arenāt that many chess players here so it would be inactive. Despite not being that good myself; I keep up with the chess world heavy and would share cool games and videos along with news. Plus knowledge Iāve picked up along the way.
Cries
Kasparov was just on the streamā¦
Looks like Topalpv has winning chances!!!
Im a chess player but i consider myself a beginner ( im going to put my rating as an 1200 player) if any of you guys wants to play me make an account at www.chess.com and send me a request. My username there is the same on here
1200 is a bit generous. That is close enough to be creeping into intermediate chess players status. Iām available to play now if you are free. I donāt play rated games versus friends. Unfortunately Iām rolling on my smartphone so I might miss obvious moves.
EDIT: @JustinAkatsuki My screename here is the same as on chess.com

Just a random game of mine. I saw the discovered attack and I countered with a discovered check. He fell for it and lost every piece and was mated in six. I played poorly after throwing away every advantage and I came through with some bs.
At least you werenāt the dude on stream yesterday who threw a shot at a tournament playoff away with Ka3.
That kind of realization he had must be brutal. It was slow and painful. The eventual showing of emotion when itās clear he gave it away and cannot get it back. Yes, son. You failed hard. GGPO.
@Naeras I do and @JustinAkatsuki Since you challenged me to a correspondence game instead of a live game are all resources except an engine allowed? These types of games are great for learning openings and I can take some notes.
The newest news is FIDE announcement of the World Championship location which will be disappointingly held in a renovated fish market in New York.
Ironically, Wikipedia has the most updated information.
History of the location with pictures: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/11395512
And last but not least game of the day:
http://www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1281614
In this game, a queen was intentionally hung to draw the game. Very interesting idea that shows the difficulty of breaking through an established pawn chain. Almost perfectly clarifies your first goal the moment you see the center closing. Pawn chain 2good.
Sweet. Add ebsundmark if you want some games.
Yeah man, I was watching that last match, Aronian/Topalov, on Twitch. It was like watching the grand finals at EVO in Street Fighter combined with a highly anticipated UFC main event, WBC main event, and various other sporting eventsā¦
I wanna get in on this. Iām just a casual player but itās always fun to learn. I just finished making a chess.com account lol, forte95 letās play
Apparently, you have to learn the Kingās Indian Defense 9 moves deep to play it effectively and not be completely lost. GMs recommend this opening against anything where people like to play 1. d4 or any type of opening where you can force the move. But not only do you have to know the main lines but you have to find a way to not get owned on black where your pieces are cramped up. So you also have to be tactically aware and play it with surgical precision on black.
I donāt know why this is even taught to scrubs(such as myself). I mean I played a random low ranked player that was doing bad at first but I wasnāt accurately attacking. Then out of nowhere I got blasted into by a pawn chain. I think I won somehow but it was rough.
@forte95 Youve been added. What time controls would you like?
EDIT: Also Iāll be busy around 1 and unbusy around 6 EST.
Thanks! Something like 1 or 2 days per move sounds reasonable for me, is that alright?
I usually find the time to go online around 8pm GMT+8 (Iām in the Philippines), which Google tells me is 8am EST.
Oh live chess lol, suddenly 1-2 days per move sounds dumb. 15-minute games, is that alright?
I canāt play right now though, maybe later or tomorrow.
