if im saving meter i’ll take the damage stun and knockdown of heavy parabellum over st.lk xx parabellum everytime, with the added bonus of not just standing there if i get a CC
Well, hope you have good reactions then, since hp parabellum is like -9 or something, just saying that no one can hitconfirm 100% of the time a one hit cancel, in a tournament enviroment where you are nervous things usually dont always go your way, like momochi who didnt hitconfirm his cr.mk into super in NCR i think and it cost him the match
i do have good reactions but thats besides the point. you’ve got 18f to cancel (more than hit confirming low forward into v trigger which im sure many people feel is doable) and practice makes perfect. arent fighting games about testing your limits?
Took a while as I haven’t been playing as much as I used to. I feel rather comfortable using her these days. Except of course the lack of hit-confirming CC HP and maybe using b.HK too often, which unfortunately works like a fireball in that the opponent can get an easy jump in if you throw it out at the wrong time.
Completely agree… my last session i planned to figure out her footsie game. I was too stubborn to stop when it clearly wasn’t working out and my play session ended horribly.
@VarMa I’m a strong believer that you should try new things in casuals. Because, when you try to apply new things you are bound to mess up and have a higher chance of losing. In Ranked that will make you (me at least) nervous, which obstruct learning and make chances of losing even higher - it’s a snowball.
With that i actually don’t completely agree still. I’m not trying to say that her neutral is godlike or she is a footsie character - she isn’t. But i do think that in this area she manages good, better that many.
Neutral and footsie in general are not very strong in SFV and especially in season 2. There are too much abusable forward moving specials, spammable, convertable long reach crush counters and crasy damage v-triggers. Even footsie characters like Karin and Chun can’t afford to play only neutral if they want to win. They have to get in, pressure and damage. You can’t consistently win with single hits, if in doubt ask Vega.
So i would change quote to be “If you play a typical footsies game, you’ll lose most of the time (unless you are Fuudo).”. Kolin here may even be better that many, because range from where Uriens, Balrogs, Birdies, Lauras, … will throw their forward moving specials is actually most safe range to throw v-skill out or whiff a counter.
So i think, you shouldn’t blame the character, nor should you blame yourself. You can blame the game, but there is not much point in that. Prioritise getting in, pressure and oki. In that Kolin is good.
I actually think her neutral is pretty solid. Cr.MK is great, b.HK is good when used sparingly, st.HP is an excellent whiff punish button, V-Skill is excellent since it’s hard to punish from max range, links into 3frame moves on hit and goes into full animation on counter hit and she has some great conversions off lights whenever someone manages to dash in your face. She’s no Chun or Karin but she can hold her own.
One interesting thing i found is that doing cr.LK then pausing is a nice auto shimmy. Now I tried this on Juri and Ryu so far but even point blank if you co cr.Lk then crouched blocked in front of them and they tried to tech, their tech whill whiff and you will get a full combo punish. Can even LP-MP-HP TC from that range and keep in mind that cr.LK is a real tick throw as well.
That’s interesting. To know if it works on everyone it would be good to test if it works against Dictator (throw range 0.9) and Urien (0.85).
Ryu and Juri both have 0.8 but even if it works only against 0.8 it’s a good find.
Kolin herself has 0.85 throw range. After cr.LK on block She can throw so i am gonna assume that no, it won’t work on Urien and Bison and others with a bigger throw range. Maybe st.LP will do though ?
I like Majorboy’s more. Poongko get away with so much because of his name and status. He is known to play crazy so people hold back and wait for the crazy, thus letting him steamroll them. It is also really obvious that there is a significant MU inexperience in these games.
I think it is safe to say that just like Mika, most players will never learn the Kolin MU and we will coast away because of it
Well unlike Mika she’s not really popular so even if people wanted to learn the matchup they’ll have a hard time doing so. I noticed I get away with murder sometimes too, like for example whiffing light hands after a medium counter and then going straight into HP and getting a crush counter because people throw out slow buttons at that range. It’s a totally fake setup but works almost every time (Gold rank).
Also good find with the cr.LK. Didn’t even know that was a thing for almost everyone. Will try that out the next time I hop online (whenever their servers are up for European players).
I don’t know why no one uploads Duke78’s Kolin matches… he was the first Master Rank Urien and kinda come out of nowhere. Then switched to Kolin after she dropped. I liked him allot more then Major Boy tbh. MB is still great though. And I agree that Poonkgo gets away with allot of shit. I still like his Kolin because he kinda plays her like he has no gameplay and honestly, that’s how I’m starting to play her lol
