I like that she seems to have a lot of tools
If her counter throws have EX versions her anti-air one looks like it could potentially have a ground bounce, considering she slams them hard into the ground and it looked like Urien “popped up” after she threw him down. That’d be cool.
The counter throw animations look smooth as hell, I love the camera angle adjustments. If her rekkas all go like this -
multiple stabs - ender is chosen upon which strength you used
instead of going
multiple stabs - (input to choose what happens)
chances are all of them are unsafe and work like Karin’s Mujinkyaku does. With the light version having no follow-up, and the medium/heavy versions having different ender options.
I see only the 2nd strike used in a combo. The deflecting forward slash doesn’t appear in the trailer.

Yeah that’s what I mean, they didn’t showcase it’s counter potential but they DID use it.
Probably because they focused on her counter-throws instead.

@Daemos
fuck you I thought you were a respectable poster with integrity
never mind you spoiler tagged it, I take back my flame
I never saw her walking backwards and her play style is generally too aggro for a charge character
She doesn’t have like screen travelling specials and a zoning fireball like Urien to suggest a charge based moves list
Right, so giving this another look you can already imagine what her toolset will be like.
She has strong damage options by the look of things, a medium/medium link that goes into a fierce target combo along with heavy/medium links as well.
She doesn’t look like she’s going to have a reversal, and her v-reversal is Rashid/Vega tier being a simple roll. Her weakness will most likely be a lack of reversal options, if she has no 3f along with this I assume a LOT of people will drop her within the first week because of their reliance on defensive tools.
Her normals do indeed look stubby, but her effective range of attack is dramatic due to the fullscreen slide and double jump letting her close distance almost immediately. It also looks like the EX version of the slide allows Kolin to cancel into normals on hit, so maybe she can also do it on block. That would mean you’d 110% need to jump against that move or counter poke it.
My take on the character is that she’ll be incredibly oppressive with strong approach options i.e ice balls, ice slides and jump arc manipulation but her weakness will probably stem from slow normals along with poor defensive options. Seems to be the common trope in SFV, I imagine her to have similar downsides to Alex.
Seems like in this game characters with very weak or missing wakeup options struggle or see barely any competitive representation
It’s funny because Rashid has one of the best v reversals because he rolls forward. Whereas Vega has almost the worst because he rolls back

Mika, Nash, Laura and Rog are all free on wake-up.

Rashid’s is interesting due to it’s usage as an anti-fireball approach option as well, or just in it’s use to close space against characters like Guile.
Kolin’s looked like it travelled less distance though.

There have been plenty of SF hybrid charge characters that do an aggro style though. Not that I have any idea what Kolin is.
Her “hands” would have traditionally been a mash move, which SF usually pairs with charge specials.
If she’s a piano character ima have a little trouble getting to grips with it again, but considering Chun’s LL mash is only 4 hits I assume Kolin’s is the same. That makes pianoing trivial.

I think the opposite, she looks like she has a tonne of defensive options.
I just don’t want her occupying another slot for a character dependent on 50/50. I’m already sick of them still being in this game.
She is gorgeous and I like her atack arsenal (I have a nack for Ice powers)

Vega, Birdie, Bison, Zangief, Dhalsim, FANG would like to have a word too
How can you guys talk about mains based on a trailer? That’s like saying you have a new favorite movie based on a trailer.
That snowball cross-up setup looks dirty AF.
I wonder where the “rekkas” Art was talking about are. I see you can have different follow-ups from the backstep but I don’t see the rekka there. The three punches look like a target combo?
It’s also interesting that her counter throws go into a full cinematic. Maybe they are actually intended as command grabs?
wtf. at this rate just call everything a rekka.

They all have other flaws besides the lack of wake-up options.
You can’t say Mika or Nash were underrepresented in S1, yet their best wake-up option is a frame 3 armored move and an invincible VT.
