The Castlevania Thread

Hey, all. Facebook group has a Castlevania HD stream going on. Check us out here. - http://www.twitch.tv/castlevaniador

Interesting tidbit of information. Lords of Shadow became Castlevania because of Kojima. Also confirming that Konami execs are a bunch of sleep. Anyways, thank you Kojima.

That’s awesome, makes sense too.
Great direction for the franchise.

After reading that article dunno why but I suddenly get the feeling Raiden’s going to be added as a DLC character for LOS2. Oh well, still hyped. Especially if Alucard is confirmed to be in the game.

We’re witnessing two ends of a spectrum here concerning franchise reboots. On one end is MercurySteam and Castlevania. On the other is Ninja Theory and DmC.

I wouldn’t call Mercury Steam’s three Castlevania’s a reboot. Since it’s been confirmed that there is only the three games it’s more like an alternative take on the Castlevania mythos and not really a reboot. The original canon still stands.

so the other night i decided to play Harmony of Despair for no apparent reason and got a chaos ring on a solo ch. 3 run with fuma. Random number generator what do

You’re right, MS did say they’re not making any more Castlevanias after LOS2 so reboot was an inaccurate way to describe it. Lets call it a re-imagining, and I applaud them for how they handled a 3D CV.

Now, whether it’s a reboot or alternative take, I’m still ignoring NT’s DmC like how I ignore the Zelda CD-i games.

does anybody still play castlevania HD on xbox? i havent played it forever though and am like a super low level on it so im pretty sure people would get annoyed playing with me.

Copped SOTN for 8 bucks the other day with a Deus Ex trade in. Worth it.

I’ve seen it on amazon for like 90 bucks list price, I don’t even think they were sealed.

Playing this shit with my dad. My dad is awesome.

Also, I’ve been sleeping on Lords of Shadow. Paycheck will remedy this someday.

  1. Human Revolution?
  2. Though good for you that you own SotN I feel like nothing will beat the PSP port with Maria added to it. Because well, Maria.
  3. Your dad is awesome.
  4. It’s not too old so it’s more like a light slumber for ya mate.

I don’t like the new voices for the PSP port. It’s still a good port, though.

Hav you found a local copy of SOTN? What the fuck. I only have the PSP and PSN version, I need a PS1 black label copy for my CV collection. My CV collection is pretty serious!

I have one, but a) I’m missing the original case and b) not willing to part with it.

I wouldn’t part with it either.

Yeah it was Human Revolution, probably should have made that clear. :sunglasses:

The new VA for SOTN on Dracula X Chronicles is hit or miss. I think they did a fantastic job with their Rondo of Blood performances, but it seemed like when it came time to redub SOTN all the actors were ready to phone the performances in. At least the original voices were entertaining :P.

I agree it’s a good port. I kind of wish that they’d put in Underground Garden and Cursed Prison, but not much else to ask for otherwise. Plus, playable Maria.

There is playable Maria in the PSP version, though. If you want to see what the Garden and Curse Prison are like, take the time to get a Saturn emulator and rom. It’s kind of worth it, I didn’t understand anything(since it was in Japanese) but I got by. The Sprint relic is fucking amazing, and should have at least been in the PSP version. WIth the relic, you could double tap forward to dash, like Richter for example. Alucard’s run animation got sped the fuck up and he ran fast as hell, and the thing is it looked fine and felt like a natural addition to the game. The Underground Garden and Curse Prison were nothing special, but one of the things they did well was that both areas connected to other areas in the Castle. I thought that was pretty cool.

^I miss stuff like that from the Castlevaniaroids. The creativity started to decrease which many of the later titles. Like I remember Ecclesia’s outside areas but then they repeat and it’s

aren’t the new voice overs in dracula x chronicles exact translations of the original japanese for sotn? I swear i read that when the game was first announced

Edit nvm i think i’m on a different subject in my mind, i’ve been up to long. But yeah new VA’s were cool.

In other news this should be the next castlevania game. Full of funk handjive and Evil!!
Seriously though it’s funny. http://www.improfanfic.com/cv/

I been doing the Maxim version of Harmony of Dissonance lately, it is a lollin time

Well shit, here I am replaying OoE and realizing that the next CV title will likely be nothing like it and I got depressed over it when everyone else apparently didn’t like these games anyway?

I fucking loved all the GBA / DS 'Vanias. There are so many little touches that are just going to be lost with what Mercury’s got planned and even though I played LoS I had no connection with it.

I suppose that’s just me being petty but I’d much rather take a sequel to OoE (it’s criminal to never hear from Shanoa again) then to get into what looks like a 2D God of War imo.
