The Castlevania Thread

I begun playing Circle of the Moon. It’s the only one of the GBA CVs I didn’t play. I’m liking the game so far. I don’t have a bloody clue how to use the DSS

Do you not know how to activate it, or not know what the card combinations do?

It’s pretty fun experimenting with the cards, since some of them have pretty outrageous and varied effects. Some of them require motions like the summoning and magic attack ones but If I remember it’s only like a half-circle for summoning and something else for the magic attacks (I don’t think it was qcf).

The hard part is finding the cards, you probably need a guide if you want to know where to get all of them, unless you want to fill out the enemy drop table yourself.

Both. I got no idea how the system is suppose to work. I made it as far as the Goat head boss without knowing how to use those cards.

You pick a combo of 2 cards in the subscreen menu. One row of card effects what’s effected (Attack, Shield, Defense) the second row effects element (Fire, Ice, Plant, Lighning) Once you pick two, press “R” to activate your cards, and your character will start flashing gold. The card combos drain your magic meter while in use; your magic will automatically regenerate when you turn off the cards.

fight dudes run and hide activate mandragora/jupiter for about 10 minutes, come back to play game, wasn’t circle of the moon a gba launch title, darkest game on a nonbacklit handheld, that was dabes

Lol unpossible to see sometimes.

Just invest in a gameboy player and a used gamecube.
Will run you like 40$ total plus you can play CotM,HoD,and AoS. on tv which are massive plus’s to me.
Also i am connected to my surround sound so the music is really clear and enjoyable.

oh yeah i got the Gameboy player, and the sp, and a ds, so i have played much lit cotm haha, I actually dont own or have played AOS yet, not sure why

Problem is the disk with the gameboy player is too damn rare now. It’s really stupid. I have the player but can’t find the disk anywhere.

I may be the only one, but I LOVED the N64 Castlevania games. They’re among my favorites in the series, especially Castlevania 64, which I think has much better level design than Legacy Of Darkness. The atmosphere in them is incredible and everything I think a good Castlevania game should be. I loved the branching paths for the different characters too. If they could have kept the levels from C64 but the content from LoD, it would have been the perfect CV game imo.

Good god did the game have a big difficulty spike. Fuck the Underground Waterway. Having to dash and jump to avoid all the enemies and the water. Game was easy sailing until I got to that place.

My only issue with the n64 ones was using the damn controller.
I hated that abortion but loved the system.
Between all the amazing wrestling titles,CV, ogre battle 64. I thought it was a really fun system that really just got fucked by nintendo’s bad rep of dealing with third parties.

I love having a GB Player and a working disc for it, but now I’m concerned that disc may die. Gonna hunt down another.

I remember Circle of the Moon having a combination in DSS that let you do motions to execute attacks. Pretty cool.

What happened with the disk? Do they wear out fast?

Niggas don’t know how to take care of em yo.

Nothing.

… Yet…

Aaaagreed. Actually there were some games I LOVED on the 64, but not many. That was the first Nintendo system that I’d end up loving like, 3-4 games and then not play anything else they released (the DS was like that too for me.)

And WCW vs. NWO Revenge was thaaaaaa shit! Me, my bro, and two other buddies had a tag match where the winner had to knock out a member of the losing team. We thought it’d be easy but we wound up pounding on each other for about 58-59 minutes of a 60 minute match before I finally got a Goldberg KO. Good times!

SH tipped me off to the link, okay no metroidvania stop bitching people.

An open castle can be cool but part of what i find boring about the Metroidvania is how brain dead the platforming tends to be so here’s hoping Mirror of Fate has some good solid platforming in it. I’m still super tempted to get a 3DS for the game, tho I just got laid off this morning so I don’t see happening any time soon.
