IGA should be given more time than he usually gets to make a Metroidvania and it should be developed seperately, but alongside these new LoS games. Release it as a downloadable title or something too, that’d be great.
Yea I’m all for that.
It’s just a shame we haven’t seen anything since OoE(HoD doesn’t count) considering OoE is one of the best Metroidvania’s since SotN. That game does so many things right…
I’m seriously considering replaying a GBA/DS Metroidvania here.
I can replaying Portrait of Ruin lately playing as Richter. Still an awesome game.
The lvl 1 cap run on PoR was pretty fun. 1 hit deaths from most of the later bosses. Some day i may try to Lvl1 Axe armor my way through that game.
I liked everything about OoE except the characters. They were pretty uninteresting. And I really wanted there to be a whip wielder too, even if just as a bonus mode. Albus mode was like playing Contra. I would have probably played the hell outta taht game if it had had a Belmont in it.
SoTN IS massively overrated, but it’s still a good game. I usually like to play Luck Mode and get beat up a bit by Dracula so my stats start out low. Boosts the challenge level a bit.
Fixed bro.
o·ver·rate ( v r-r t ) tr.v. o·ver·rat·ed, o·ver·rat·ing, o·ver·rates To overestimate the merits of; rate too highly.
Nothing about that applies to SotN

No, he was right the first time.
No but my corrections made it right.
You were just reading the wrong one bro.
Mine was the second one not the first.
Common mistake.

…Anyway. Back to the games at hand.
I’m looking forward to seeing the Mercury Steam timeline.
Hahahahaaha! NIce.
It’s definitely the Metroidvania I’ve played the most , and I think it’s a great game, but I stand by my comment about it being overrated. It’s not as good as Rondo, CV4, CV3, etc in my estimation. If the game ended at Richter battle, it would have definitely been better. But the Inverted Castle meanders and basically turns it into a big sandbox game. It’s too long and feels tacked on. It definitely shows how good the level design is for the most part, but it’s aimless until you collect all the body parts and get the rings.
And it doesn’t really even work into the story like the Castle B does in Harmony Of Dissonance (definitely the best use of similar looking copy-pasta levels in all of Castlevania imo, that game made it more of a Silent Hill-esque "Regular world (Castle A) and Dark-fucked-up-world (Castle B) to great affect).
So for largely that reason, I feel like SoTN is mid-top tier in terms of Castlevania games. And strangely enough I thought FFVII suffered from the same thing. After you leave Midgar, the game’s a snooze for quite awhile.
Saw this thread in the Recent Active Threads.
Have nothing to add in particular.
Just wanted to say Castlevania is awesome, and I will be buying both Lord of Shadows games coming out.
Hello guys i saw this thread quite some time ago and wanted to show you all something special i did many months ago, but now i was able to properly do this video right and well it combines Castlevania 1 and Minecraft, enjoy :3

Picked lords of shadow back up. I intend to finish it this time.
What’s up with this weird psn castlevania? I forget what it’s called but it looks dumb as hell.
the PsP one?
Chronicles?
I just rented lords of shadows. Just finished chapter 2. The story just keeps on getting better and so does the gameplay the more skill I unlock the more depth. This game is a gem, an absolute must play. Can’t wait for the sequel the trailer looked amazing. Haven’t had this much fun in an action game since Batman Arkham city.
Nah, its all multiplayer and stuff.
There’s a simplicity to the Metroidvanias, and even the older ones that I don’t get in LoS or this new 3DS one either. I’m excited to scope new environments out or see how they recreate parts of a castle, but this stuff that Mercury’s doing doesn’t do much of anything for me. This is not to say that I think LoS was bad or what they’re going for now is a crap shoot, it’s a good idea to take the series in a new / different direction. At best I enjoyed how LoS was executed via its production values, but actually playing the game was a completely lackluster experience.
