The Castlevania Thread

Well it looks like I need a 3DS again… they’re bringing the old Castlevania back with a twist…

Dawn of Sorrow was really one of the only metroidvanias I enjoyed(Like 70+ hours to complete everything the game has to offer)…

Otherwise fuck RPGvania… Konami is keepin’ it G again…

In the Castlevania 4 treasure stage. Where you jump on the treasure chests a bunch of times for something. Can’t quite remember what you got though. Just something that popped up in my memory.

Really really glad I kept my Castlevania 4 snes box now too.

Cox just said in a interview that they wouldn’t implement the metroidvania style in either mirrors of faith nor lords of shadow 2. It’s gonna stay true to it’s roots while they also said they are gonna leave more space for exploration, not being too linear.

Official looking forward to list : LOS2 , RE6 , and umm the new batman movie.

ololol , peace.

this one better have a big map. Otherwise; bullshit replay value. Well, that the length of the game and it has to be naturally a hard game to play.

Still waiting for a FFT for me to buy a 3DS

Oh that. iirc you got some meat for doing it, pot roast i think. i’ll have to check though. i thought you meant jump 255 times to improve my speed run or something.

The 3DS CV looks cool. I just wish it wasn’t 3DS exclusive…I’m not getting one until a cheaper redesign comes out.

Yes it is. The game is difficult and has amazing music. Like you said, some of the tracks in that game are better than the ones in Rondo.

^^Yeah if you jumped on a chest 255 times you’d get a pork chop.

No, I fucked that up. Drunk posting for the lose. X-P

Specs is right, the SNES had a better soundcard, though the Genesis DID have a better processor. Why Nintendo cheaped out on the processor is completely beyond me. That system was THE 16 bit system, but they put this pussy-ass CPU in it for some reason.

I still can’t get enough of Dracula X Chronicles/Rondo Of Blood. To me, the only thing that could improve those games would be more levels haha! But I’m liking what I’m hearing in regards to Mirror of Fate and LoS2. Makes me think my wallet may end up being a bit lighter if they really knock those out of the park.

How you been man? Do you still go to the Dungeon at all?

Agreed about MoF. I bought a DS for the CV games and while I enjoyed them, I wound up selling the thing because I hardly played those games.

Dracula X is a cool game, but the level design is a little suspect in some places. Like in that one area (I think level 3) you climb up all those platforms and then suddenly you’re inside the castle somewhere and then underground once you go down the stairs from there. Great game, but they seemed to put zero thought into the level design.

I need to buy LoS because 3DS CV looks insane like 2d god of war with the metroidvania level design, could be the best CV or the worst. I’m just glad Konami isn’t playing it safe, we already have 3 DS CV’s definitely time to mix it up a little. But yeah I’m also worried we won’t be able to just skip enemies like other CV’s.

I actually fired up Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance last night, it was pretty fun to mess around with for a bit. Soma and Alucard are top tier in that game, right? Everyone else is shit tier? Also, does no one have a dash outside of DLC characters like Richter(?)

Julius is my favorite default character in the PS3 version, but man, his damage is ass compared to Soma or Alucard. I fucking love Julius anyway, his multi-directional whip is so damn satisfying. Takes me back to my CV4 days.

I’m pretty good, can’t complain. I haven’t been to those forums in a long, long time. I actually might go check it out in a sec, I want to see how things have changed since the last time I went there.

Rugaltarian+DoctaMario=random bastards I seen posting on another forum before I even joined SRK. Good times.

Best characters in HoD imo
Soma
Richter
Simon
Alucard

Im still playing around with Alucard. As a matter of fact…I can understand why they’d leave the metroidvania style alone. They literally cluster-f**ked HoD with all the maps

Metroidvania needs to stay dead for at least another year or two imo.

I really like how Order of Ecclesia handled it. It was a straight up mix of both and it was difficult.

I know the guy said that you can upgrade weapons, but damn do the regular enemies take a fuckload of hits to kill. Aside from that, sign me the fuck up, especially since Alucard is in it.

0% of this post makes any sort of sense. Big maps or replay value is bullshit? Naturally hard? What are these words you call language, and what do they mean?

Meh. Big maps aren’t needed for replay value.

After this quote, I feel the need not to explain myself

Some action-adventure games need variety within their levels. CV has delivered variety in most of their games. Im just expecting something like Rondo of Blood on how there were branches to different levels

Just gimmy pretty stages (with a map showing your advancement) with good platforming and beautiful backrounds, good music, tight controls, and a strong challenge.

it doesn’t need to be this huge sprawling map that you wander around in. It just needs good stages like old CV had.

Okay. Do understand my confusion was genuine.
