The Castlevania Thread

I’m definitely feeling the Combat Cross, and ignoring the seemingly infinite storage space of the device for its umpteen foot chain whip thing, it’s a really cool device. Actually, the infinite storage space just makes it cooler, like American Link’s bottomless bag. Just from trailers, it feels like this wholly functional, multi-purpose fighting/exploration tool.

Lament of Innocence was one of the few games I actually never played. I just kinda skipped it. No real reason: I played Curse of Darkness when it came out, but Lament never found its way into my collection.

And yes, I’m expecting Epic Yarn to be great fun, and hoping it outdoes the original SNES Kirby Super Star.

Kevin Bolk’s vision of a redesigned N-team Simon Belmont, which mixes the original N-team design with Kojima’s red hair and fur.

Dr. B quotes that only appear after ninja editing are the greatest gift of all.

Gamesradar’s got a review of LOS up. The part about the combat mechanics has gotten me excited. The “Focus meter” and having to use combos, timing and spell cancelling to keep it from draining so you can fill it and have Nuetral Orbs dropping constantly sounds almost like something Cave would put in one of their shmups.

I always thought A. Kojima overstayed her welcome. It’s fine that a vampire like Alucard has a metro look, since they don’t age. That look is totally not appropriate for Euro peasants like the Belmonts who live a hard, medieval lifestyle.

Please don’t. Don’t let that idiot anywhere near Castlevania. I don’t want it to turn into some shitty, overwrought Soap Opera with the budget of a small country’s gdp.

Man Hideo Kojima’s already supervising LOS, it’s under Kojima Productions and everything. Don’t worry, they said the FMV’s aren’t long and he didn’t do too much it seems. Just advised here and there.

Specs - Funny image!

As long as he’s not trying to direct The Godfather in Transylvania, then I’m cool with that.

it really seems like kojima’s involvement was at a minimum and david cox & mercurysteam already had a vision of what this game was going to be.

kojima just helped here and there to get things rolling.

The only thing that bugs me about this game is the apparent lack of CASTLEvania. Still day 1.

Isn’t there a way to kill the red skeletons permanently in SotN?

One of the special property whips.

There are no whips in SOTN…

Holyshit a gothic God of War2 day1 easy!

You could play the game as Richter Belmont. For the Sega Saturn, the Japanese version you could play as Maria. None of their weapons were upgradable though and if you played with them it was pretty straight forward. No story or anything. You could run around and go pretty much anywhere and kill everybody, the game would just end whenever you decided to kill Dracula. Richter’s whip was hella powerful as was Maria’s magic but I don’t think in either instance you could kill a red skeleton for good since that would break the rules of the game kind of.

I don’t claim to have gotten all of Alucard’s weapons though so not sure if he could kill red skeletons for good either. After I got the 90 + percentage to get the good ending I was out. I saw my little brother get the bad ending ahead of me and I did not want to get that. In the bad ending Richter sounds like a bitch. He says something like “LET’S GET OUT OF HERE,” in the most pathetic way possible. He sounded like the Shaggy (Scooby Doo) of Castlevania.

Even if you can kill red skeletons in SOTN, you can unlock SOTN in the PSP version of Dracula X where you can kill red skeletons anyway. PSP Dracula X is too freaking good.

Has anyone played Rebirth on the Wii, on hard?

Fucking god damn red skeletons are the biggest pain in my ass. Seriously.

Still haven’t gotten past stage 3 .

Gametrailers’ review of LoS…

Gamerankings.com has some reviews listed (for both 360 and PS3 versions), including this one from Gamestop.

Overall, the reviews are positive: the Gamestop one I linked is the lowest score so far, citing some frustrating puzzles (which seems like a common gripe in reviews, so I’m betting some of the puzzles will be annoying) and claiming the game’s story loses focus on the characters. Still talks about a lot of good stuff, and as the least favorable review is still rather positive, I’m thinking the game’s still going to impress.

EDIT - At the risk of sounding defensive, a second read over that Gamespot review makes me think it’s a little more confused than it accuses Lords of Shadow of being. But read, and decide for yourself.

Where’s the demo?

Played it on Normal, not Hard. Hats off for trying! At least give yourself 9 lives in the options menu on the down low when no one is looking. :wonder:

Oh no no, none of that.

Three lives, hard mode, classic player style jumping.

Oh lordy :looney:

I saw a lot of frame drops in the gametrailers review. Is worried.
