If you’d played them in release order, HoD’s garbageness would stand out like a sore thumb. You play the game and thinking “wtf is this shit” the entire time. A complete step backward from all the metroidvania games that came before it. HoD made me never want to see the whip as a main weapon ever again in metroidvania games.
Hey, I like Belmont’s Whip in PoR! That shit was too beast against the Death/Dracula combo! But yeah, HoD put a bad taste in my mind. I immediately played CotM after that and all was good in the world again
Funny, cuz I played some of the other Castlevania games after CoD (PoR is one of my fav. BTW), but when I went back to HoD…didn’t feel bad about it…
Hows Order of Ecclesia? Its the only one i dont have for my DS. It should be fairly cheap by now since its been out for awhile right?
I like it. It has more straightforward levels, including outdoor ones, and it’s one of the more challenging Metroidvanias. The music and graphics are top-notch, like always (except HoD, of course…).
I strongly disliked OoE.
I honestly like HoD more (I never finished HoD, but it’s not bad. I played the GBA ones in wrong order, CotM, AoS, then HoD)
The bad thing IMO about OoE is that the game itself is good, but all of the bosses are stupid powerful and can kill you in like 6 hits or so, so after you die a ton of times, you finally kill them. It’s not difficult, it’s just a pain in the ass.
I think it’s one of the worst Castlevanias in general.
OoE is great. It’s the best DS CV next to DoS. I prefer DoS over it, though that’s because I’ve played the shit out of DoS so many times. I could beat that game in I think 1:30-2 hours or so with Soma, then as Julius/Alucard it would only take me 20-30 something minutes. I wouldn’t even pick up Yoko, she sucks compared to Alucard and Julius, that and, once you get her you can’t switch between Alucard/Julius freely, she has to be a bitch and come up in between swapping of those two characters.
I randomly booted up HoD to remember why I hated it so much, but I only played it for few minutes. I actually want to replay that game, just because it’s been so long since I’ve finished it. That and, I’ve yet to get a finished game save on my Castlevania Double Pack. Only beat AoS on that thing.
Best Metroidvania’s from best to worst, imo:
SotN
DoS
CotM/OoE
AoS
PoR
HoD
OoE is the best Castlevania DS game, IMO. I enjoyed it the most out of all the Castlevania DS games.
Order of Ecclesia was pimp status. One of the most awesome CV games for sure.
so its like every old cv game
i see no problem with that
Yeah some of the bosses are mad old school tough in OOE. Really though, that only adds to the experience.
Also, I would put it ahead of everything except SoTN and AoS
No preference to either Metroid style or old school Castlevania, just as long as the game rocks.
Up to the 400,000 mark in gold on SOTN. Easy money baybay!
really hope the new game has a stupid difficulty
I’m guessing you have the Jewel Sword. If not, then you should get it.
Incidentally I was playing HoD a couple nights ago and it was only my second time playing through the game. It’s just terrible hahaha
I’m playing aria of sorrow right now and it’s a bit refreshing.
stupid ass zig zag platforms :bluu:
“GUYS SINCE WE MADE A DASH FEATURE LETS PUT A TON OF ZIG ZAGS ALL THE FUCK OVER THE PLACE SO THAT THE DASH WILL BE MEANINGLESS. THAT WAY WE WONT DECREASE PLAY TIME!!!”
wrong. playtime = 0min 0secs. fuck that game.
Yep yep, jewel sword on the puppet swords in the chapel. Lather, rinse and repeat.
Alright, got the duplicator and picked up the flame shuriken for good measure. Gonna make tough spots a LOT easier. Not that it matters, but I see using the duplicator results in shit defense. Double edged sword I see.
What is the consencus of Lament of Innocence and Judgement?
I just picked these up for $18 used…been itching to try them out.
Man, I enjoyed Lament of Innocence…
the orbs and relics are cool …but really makes the game sorta spoiler is the hidden optional boss =)
I like LOI to. it has a lot of flaws but it plays really and has a decent combo tree to. Then there’s the relics and elemental whips to find. The story bosses are decently challenging but the elementals and the hidden boss are pretty damn tough, a lot of fun to fight. Now making your way through the castle can be boring since all the rooms in an aeral look alike i’ll agree but I think the combats nice and fast, Leon has a good selection of abilities and the enemies do a good job of keeping pressure on you. Not DMC/NG/Bayo pressure but they don’t just let you stand around either. I think the real highlight of this game is the boss fights though. It’s too bad the games so ugly though lol.
