The difficulty of the pre-castle bosses was the best part of the game. Then you get the super gear and the game gets all easy on you suddenly.
As far as drops go though, I had an easier time with this game’s drops. I spent far less time farming for the rare items in OoE than I did in SotN, DoS, or PoR.
There wasn’t any part in the game when it gets easy imo, because the pre-castle bosses still did stupid damage. Goliath was a pain, but beatable. That sand-thing was annoying as heck.
The main thing about OoE is that there wasn’t any point when it was FUN.
Old Castlevania games were hard, but fun. I haven’t played DoS or PoR, but I played all of the other GBA Castlevanias - Those were easy, but at least fun. COTM, IMO was hard, but fun.
The formula for OoE is the same:
Play a level, get glyphs, find items, go do missions. Buy some items.
Fight a boss
Die - it’s like a mandatory death on the first time you fight any boss in this game.
Fight boss again, learn pattern.
Beat boss with health items
Repeat
I had an easier time in SotN for rare items. The only item I usually have trouble in getting is the 2nd throwing sword (from the Clocktower Knights)
In OoE, my endgame was at level 64, not because I purposely grind in games, but because I wanted to look for rare items in the huge knights, and even with increased luck, it took forever.
Am I the only one who thought that minus the optional Training Hall, OoE was overall easier than PoR? The Death boss took me one try, and Dracula was a pansy compared to the awesome Dracula + Death battle in the previous installment. The non-boss portions early in OoE were a little harder than the comparative areas in PoR, but everything else was easier.
ya you are the only one, like i probably died a hand full of times with sotn, por, cotm, dos COMBINED…compared to ooe where i died considerably more x2…
those other games were HELLA easy…this is the most difficult castlevania for straight play through i dont think you can dispute that…
I died exactly zero times on both SOTN and HoD, twice in all of AoS, maybe like eight times on DoS, close to 100 times on PoR, and then perhaps 30 times on OoE minus the Training Hall. It’s all about knowing how to combo those damn glyphs.
But Circle of the Moon was very hard, especially the last Dracula fight, and the bonus Arena. I’m deeply impressed if you got through it that easily.
The Summon cards in CotM made the latter half of the game incredibly ridiculously easy. Full invincibility while dealing out a few thousand hp of damage? Ok, works for me.
I did the arena too, but it’s been so long since I played CotM. I think I did some grinding before hand and was just good at CotM. I wish I was good at OoE. At least I’m almost done.
I liked that the bosses before you reach the castle are hard, that was the best part of OoE. I take it that you want to be able to just walk into a bossfight, kick his ass with minimal effort on the first try, and keep going? None of the bosses were anything even resembeling impossible, they just took practice. You actually have to put some effort into playing. That’s a good thing.
I liked the 64 ones and Lament of Innocence, but man Curse of Darkness fucking sucked. I don’t know how you go from Lament to Curse with shittier graphics and game play. Makes no sense.
I also hope it’s 2.5D as well, but with the way they show the trailer they’re making it seem 3D. If it’s 2.5 and like, 10X the size of SOTN while being just as epic, then damn I’ll be playing the game forever, replaying it every now and then like I do with SOTN and most other CV games.
I know everyone is a big Castlevania fan like myself. There’s a doujin (fan-made) Castlevania style game using Touhou characters and it looks pretty awesome. The sprite work looks pretty good, as do the visuals (also runs at 60 FPS). Even if you guys may not be Touhou fans, this looks like a pretty solid Castlevania game. It looks like there will be a clock tower level as well! However, being that it’s a Touhou game, the bosses will be filling the screen with all kinds of projectiles. There’s a “flight” mode you can activate that allows you to fly around in addition to making your hit box considerably smaller, so they essentially added a bit of the shooter aspect of the Touhou games into it.
All in all, it looks pretty damn hype. It comes out tomorrow (the 15th for Japan), and if I find out where to get it, I’ll post here again so those that are interested can shoot me a PM. Here’s some links:

man stupid 3d cv, well maybe they’ll get it right this time but i doubt it. I always give those games a fair shake but they always feel so weak. They get the 2d ones so right but the 3d games so wrong.
i wanna try that doujin game but the demo link is not working
