The Castlevania Thread

Forget HoD. That’s all I’m gonna say. If you want me to elaborate, I will.

Guess I played them the wrong way round huh? Oh well, I’ll still gve it a try, don’t have a DS anymore so OoE is kind of out of the question lol…

But yeah, I have no idea how the story or hell where this game is going in general (CotM). But if I am coming to the end It’ll be pretty gutting, there has to be abilities in the hundreds and if it’s down to just, roaming around an already explored castle getting abilities that you don’t even need any more, it’s kind of a waste.

But this is slowly becoming one of my favourite Castlevania tracks…

CotM has one of the best OST’s in the entire series. It took some of the best songs of the older games (CV3, Bloodlines.) redid them a bit so they sound better, and then added some of its own original songs. I’m gonna replay CotM soon, it’s so damn beautiful.

That was a good track.

OoE is certainly a fucking awsome game

Where do you get record number 1? I have em all except for that one. I’m assuming its “Vampire Killer” the level 1 music from CV1, but I cant seem to find it

oh and I forgot who said it, but to whoever it was that was confused/surprised about monsters roaming around outside of the castle and whatnot, I take it you never played Castlevania 2?

Location of Record 1

It’s in Ecclesia. It’s in a blue chest, so you have to crouch in the corner across from the door leading to Barlowe’s room.[/details]

CotM

So what would you guys reccomend? Now I’ve beat Dracula and the Battle Room I’m not too sure how to go about it. Carry on playing my current file and try getting more cards, or just play Magician Mode and have all of them. I want it to be a suprise, but it looks like the game’s simply too hard to play like that first time round.

The game’s kind of flawed in a sense that the distibution of cards is far from what it should be. I actually got them a fair ammount, having roughly one or two cards for each area, but concidering how many cards and abilities there is, I should have been getting them a hell of a lot more often. Luck didn’t really do much for it either, I was wearing one item with +10 luck for around fifteen minutes, one after the other I got a luck ring and I was wearing both of them (+40 x2) the entire game, with the +25% DSS. Normal items dropped a hell of a lot the entire time, but cards just weren’t happening.

Magician Mode seems fun, but after getting so little cards it seems kind of a waste to just start flicking through them all…

I absolutely agree on COTM’s card distribution. That was pretty much why playing it could be a drag sometime; lots of abilities but chances are most of them will come at the end or in a second playthrough unless you grind.

I would go for Magician mode and use that as the excuse to get more cards (I do not believe being a Magician automatically means you get all the cards from the outset; but it’s been a hell of a long time). Magician mode starts out tough, but gets very easy down the line.

Magician Mode starts you with all of the DSS cards.

In OoE, does the cube glyph DO anything?

Yes. It makes cubes.

I guess that’d be why I remember using the tonfa to fight Cerberus then.

As stated, it makes cubes. You can stack them. Enemies that run into them get turned to stone for some reason, but it’s not very useful at all.

I think the real question is, can the cube glyph be used in a union with anything?

Enemies that are vulnerable to Petrification take double damage and can’t move. However, if you desire Petrification, Felis Medusa is the better choice.

Felis Medusa is easily the best familiar for that reason IMO.

I just started level 1 Hard. Just to make sure, it’s possible to get two Master Rings, right? You don’t appear to be able to put it up in the shop and I’m not far enough yet to get the second is why I ask.

It makes the difference as to whether I start maxing out my Slashing right now or when I have both.

If you raise it to lvl 3, they also make an effective shield against flying low HP enemies like Bats, Winged Skeletons, Medusas, and Gorgons.

Yes you can get two Master Rings. Just have to finish all of the quests a second time.

Master Rings are pretty worthless in this game if you use the attribute up trick; it’s how I maxed out all my stats.

On an unrelated note, did anyone get the Brachyura Medal? Did you guys read the description? “Medal awarded for defeating the giant enemy crab, Brachyura.”

What’s the attribute trick exactly?

To do the attributes trick, you must have the following:

  • 85 defense (platinum plate should do the trick)
  • Emperor ring
  • Tower ring
  • Refectio glyph

Go the Mystery Manor and go to the room right before the boss room. The room has two White Formors in it. After equiping the above items/glyph, activate Refectio and go in. Hold up and the White Formors will eventually just run into you, causing only one damage about every second or so. Refectio with Emperor ring will regen +2 HP every second or so, making you unkillable. When the White Formors try to attack you, you’ll suck up their glyph and prevent them from attacking you (which would normally do like 40ish damage). Use a rubber band and something to hold down the up direction on the d-pad (I used a coin) and just leave the DS sitting there (preferrably plugged into the charger). It’ll take over a dozen hours to do it, but eventually you’ll have the max attributes of 65535. Just do it while you’re sleeping or something.

Easy!

When you say White Fomors, you mean the Brahma Goats that do that light orb attack right? Just making sure I know what enemies you mean.

I didn’t know absorbing their glyphs raised EVERYTHING O_o. That could save me a lot of time! Well, theoretically, since I’m still spending 12 hours on it. But not 12 hours killing Skeleton Friskies.

Cool.

Thanks ^_^.
