yeah, I know. I saw it since I’m past that part already. I’m up to the chess board puzzle to enter the Forgotten One’s dungeon.
I disagree with that decision. not so much seeing Gabe in the future as so much that it coulda shown him hundreds of years in the future…just not all the way into the late 20th-early 21st century.
I mean, if LoS is set in the Middle Ages which is around 1000 A. D., well jeez setting him in the early 19th century woulda been perfect!
Early 19th century totally fits with the atmosphere of Dracula. And it shows him hundreds of years later.
meh. What can one do? Nothing. But imo it woulda been 1000x better if the devs set Gabe post game storyline in the early 19th century instead of modern times/settings.
ie, what I’m trying to say is that the middle ages and 19th century settings totally fits Castlevania’s artstyle.
But I don’t think 20th century does.
it was a bad decision by the devs.
The problem being the ending to LoS1 already sets in in modern day times. Not the 19th century.
I don’t see the problem with it. While I would have liked a game in set earlier, I really wanted a close to the story they setup in the first game. That means 20th-21st.
I didn’t necessarily MIND the latter day settings in LoS2 (I didn’t LOVE them, but…) but part of it was just that they weren’t as interesting. THey looked like they could have come from just about ANY game. And then you add the bullshit sneaking around the guards (you’re fucking DRACULA! You’re gonna sneak around THOSE douchebags rather than tear them to pieces? WTF Gabula?) and all that and the game just drive me nuts in places. I loved the Toy Maker bit and the theater and a lot of the castle segments, but then they get interrupted by the Wolf Medallion and the city parts. It was like someone turned off my Castlevania game, popped Resident Evil in, and turned the system back on. It was jarring and just didn’t work imo.
There are much better ways they could have capitalized on the twist ending of LoS1, which I thought was a really cool part, but they dropped the ball on that in LoS2.
LoS1 is a much more polished entry into Castlevania. Sub weapons fit right in place and serve a purpose.
The items in LoS2 thus far are more lackluster. I do like the blood daggers, fireballs and ice attacks. They transition well as a Dracula sub weapon instead of a Belmont. The other items feel out of place though. Health potions? Nah. I haven’t even bothered to understand the non-weapon sub items yet. They just feel like a throw-in to non-Castlevania players.
um, why do you have to sneak around those big guards again?
what happens if you don’t sneak past them?
are they so OP that its impossible to fight them or is it that if they spot you they hit an alarm and the game calls it GAME OVER automatically for you?
again, I haven’t played the game, I’ve just heard about the act of having to sneak past certain large guards as a mouse.
also, may I state here and now, that I love LoS1’s puzzles?
cuz I do.
like the best one was the Lara chess puzzle board one which opened up the path to The Forgotten One.
imo, that one was the hardest one to figure out. Took me a while to see the clue in the 3 drapes to realize how/where the chess pieces go.
Awesome puzzles.
Funny how Lords of Shadow had better and more puzzles than Tomb Raider 2013. That’s amazing to me since I never expected a Castlevania game to even have puzzles.
but then again I’ve never played any Castlevania game before this one.
probably because I never owned a nes. I had a sega master system while all my friends had the nes. my friends talked about Castlevania a lot and that’s all I knew about the series. From word of mouth.
How are the ps2 Castlevania games?
How would you guys rate them?
I have the ds Castlevania games on my pc. emu. but haven’t gotten around to play them yet. But I will after I play Bloodrayne Betrayal.
DS castlevanias are a ton of fun, especially Order of Ecclesia. I wonder what is next for Castlevania? I really think the series should go back to 2d, why does everything have to be 3d?
If LOS was your first castlevania game I would finish that series if you feel invested. Mirror of Fate and LoS2 to close out the story. I’m in the middle of LoS2 myself, skipping mirror of fate. I should probably reverse that.
When you start the DS games it would actually be better to play Symphony of the Night (PS1) first. The DS’s all refer to stuff in it that will be beneficial to know.
PS2 castlevanias are best played as a fan of the classic series. Lament of innocence acts as an origins tale and is pretty good as a game actually. I like the characters in this a lot.
The stages are where the game falters. A bunch of empty hallways or rooms that lock until you kill everything, with nothing else in them. This is prevalent later on. The early stuff is very interesting.
Curse of Darkness is an ok side story. Regular game is very different from others. It’s more like a pokemon game in castlevania. Stages overall are even worse/boring than the bad in Lament.
It has the best dracula boss in my opinion, tied with Order of Eclessia.
Thematically not challenge-wise. I just really like the boss voice and taunts.
I also really like the belmont mode in Curse. It almost feels like playing through that mode was the intended game and the main story is the side game.
They are affected by crosses. Dracula in LoS2 is a special case.
He seems super powerful regardless. Enough to shrug off lesser holy attacks.
Apparently he is still God’s chosen warrior on earth even with the whole “Prince of Darkness” thing.
He shows this off at the end of the tutorial stage against the Paladin where he “out-invokes holy power” against the paladin.
The guards don’t OHKO you but you can’t attack them and they just bum rush you if you get seen. So sneaking by is really your only option unfortunately. And you don’t always sneak past them as a rat, sometimes you have to distract them with the Bat Swarm subweapon and creep past. Meh.
Co-sign on the puzzles in LoS1. I loved the Chess puzzle and the ones in the DLC were really good too.
As for the PS2 vanias, Lament Of Innocence is a must play. If that game had had decent level design, it would have been THE 3d CV game to beat. The atmosphere, the story, the music, etc were all incredibly well done and I’d say that other than SotN and DXC, it’s the best thing IGA ever did.
The DS games are ok. Dawn of Sorrow is good to play once, but for me it was one of those “once-is-enough” games like MoF.
I actually really enjoyed Portrait of Ruin because the dual character mode was fun. The levels weren’t the best, but still pretty decent and IMO better than Dawn’s. I also had a blast playing Richiter (xD) Mode with just Richter by himself and the game had some great boss fights.
Order Of Ecclesia probably would have been my favorite had there been a Richter mode or something. That game was screaming out for a Belmont and as it is, it’s the ONLY Castlevania game that DOESN’T have a whip wielder as a playable character. I liked the levels for the most part, and the challenge was good, but Shanoa and Albus were BOOOOOORRRINNNNGGGGG to play as IMO. OoE was a one & done for me because of that. I keep hoping someone will make a hack where you can play through the game as Richter or something.
