LoS didn’t reinvent shit.
Oh hey look, I haven’t visited this thread in ages and guess who’s still whining every 5 posts about LoS?
Ok if you are going to do that, play the PC version. There were a lot of problems I had with the console version that just aren’t an issue on PC. I thought the combat system was broken but 60 fps, it actually works. Maybe it was the drop to 30 that made me think the combat was a piece of shit. Guarding and counters actually work in the PC version. Couldn’t get my head around how bad it felt at 30 fps on console… no wonder I quit playing the game for a year.
It’s also an incredible game at 60 fps. So much more fun. Makes an enormous difference.
^ Noted with thanks!
Yea that 30FPS makes the counter system a huge pain in the ass.
Can’t wait till the day I own a PC able to run the that game (and many many others).
Rugal must really like that dick if he keeps coming back.
I got LoS going on my brothers laptop. Dem uncompressed cutscenes, holy shit. I remember how pixelated and shoddy the cutscenes looked back on PS3(since it’s using the same shitty compressed video as the 360 version.)
Game still holds up visually. I think I’m going to download it for myself just so I can play through the DLC.
@crotchpuncha @Sarangha What drivers/program you guys’ using with your Dual Shock 3 to play PC games? I can use my pad with emulators/GGPO, but PC games won’t detect it oddly enough. I want to play LoS 1 & 2 with a pad on PC+Rising(it’s not so bad with a KB+M surprisingly. )
From what I’m read on the Steam forums there is input delay when playing LoS on KB+M. The delay apparently makes the fight against the first Titan boss impossible.
Yeah, I was really irritated with the game on console because the lower resolution made seeing white highlighted limbs difficult and the 30 fps was killing me for counters. It always felt like it never worked, and always felt like I was getting hit too early and that I couldn’t guard as the limb was going to touch me but had to guard as soon as the attack started. It was such broken ass on console I raged out and didn’t play the game for a whole year until I decided it was finally time to whoop some necromancer ass and finish the game. Glad I did, but it was still frustrating. PC version really destroys in this regard because it’s a much better game at high frame rates and is a joy to play.
It’s pretty well optimized, you should be able to play it on a lower end PC even if you had to drop to 720p and kill some of the effects, I bet you could hit 60 fps at that point. I’m running a Xeon (it’s a Core2Quad equivalent) with 8 gb of RAM (stuff is about 6 years old) and a Geforce 560 ti (about 2 years old now) If you have a decent graphics card you should be able to still put out 60 fps, my PC can do it at 1080p.
Ah, the cutscenes look like ass to me. I mean why are they using 720p 24 fps cutscenes?? They should have just had them realtime since it’s all in engine, the PC could handle it easy. Might look better than console but still ass, I wish there was a real time patch for it.
On the other hand, the game is still beautiful to this day. 1080p + 60 fps and it look so gorgeous. The lighting is so much better, too, what with high quality shadows and SSAO going on. The game is super well optimized for PC.
PS3 pad on PC, there are 2 options. Find the official drivers from a Sony SDK leak, or use MotionInJoy + BetterDS so you don’t have to put up with the always online Chinese drivers. If you torrent around the official Sony drivers then you will need to use a wire connected to the controller, but MotionInJoy can be used to overwrite a BlueTooth stick to be used with the DS3.
Or you could just use any pad that outputs X-Input and not worry about using 3rd party drivers.
Yea I’m using MotionInJoy for PS3 pad + JoyToKey (But I only use JoyToKey for stuff that doesn’t have controller support, or stuff that I want to afro rig to work with the Move Navigation Controller + Mouse.)
You can use BetterDS3 http://betterds3.ciebiera.net/ to do that stuff as well. Plus, I think you can assign keyboard commands to it like Joy2Key, but it isn’t as good from what I recall. Joy2Key is a really nice program.
I’ll look into it and MotionInJoy is a little bit bootleg imo lol.
Oh i see it’s an offline driver. I didn’t even know MotionInJoy required you to be online lol.
Got that done up. Thanks for the recommendation dude, I like it.
Yeah, MotionInJoy is an offline driver with an online configuration package. There are offline versions of the original configuration package available, but then you could just use BetterDS3 instead anyway.
I agree though, it is a tad bit bootleg IMO. Sony dropped the ball, we all could have had official Sony drivers (they do exist, but only in the software SDK) and tons of PlayStation gamers could have used their controllers on their PC’s. It also could have sold a bunch of extra DualShock 3’s, and I’m sure Sony makes some profit off those, and why wouldn’t they want those profits?
In case it was not noted, the LoS2 demo is available for all consoles and pc for free
Things aren’t looking too hot for you LoS fanboys.
I played the demo and it was trash. Mash X a bunch, climb a bunch, mash X, more boring climbing and repeat. It looks good but, who cares?
I’ve seen two reviews, a 4 out of ten and a 6 out of ten. Any reviewer with any integrity won’t give this above a 7.5. The first game was terrible but got mixed reviews simply because it was a new castlevania and it was playable. The novelty is gone and I think it’s gonna be pretty unanimously reviewed this time.
Tried the demo this morning, pretty lackluster IMO. It’s not horrible or unplayable, but it seems SO by the numbers that I grew bored with it rather quickly. Feels like one of those titles that they need a quick cash grab from before abandoning the engine and console like they did with God of War Ascension, Arkham Origins, etc.
Demo doesn’t seem hot. But reading some descriptions of the ideas in the game by the devs (someone posted blurbs a few pages back ) makes me more interested.
I do like the LoS series for the aesthetics more than gameplay anyway. MoF kind of ruined this though I’m only a few stages in. I only recently bought the collection disc for the MoF HD and DLC stages I never played through when I borrowed the game.
LoS’s biggest problem game wise has been that Dark Souls series showing how Castlevania SHOULD be done in 3d.
The demo was fun, there are a lot of people in the thread lately that seem like the type to chew the gum found under their desks.
It’s a demo.
There are no credible reviews out, the “reviews” out so far are ad hominem circle jerking for a new Soma/Alucard game.
Fuck off and die already.
