The Castlevania Thread

Alucard gameplay is up

I have to admit that fight really looked like it lacked oomph. Hopefully on higher difficulty they make things harder due to more aggressive ai instead of just a damage boost.

Why is Alucard using a whip?

Because real vampire hunters fight with a whip!

No I meant of all the CV’s MOF has the most aesthetically pleasing art style, it’s a very stylized clean look with lots of color but still maintains the dark gothic look CV is known for. That screen shot looks generic as fuck in comparison, nothing eye catching about it.

It looks fun, especially the beam part I wouldn’t mind if that was how the final product turns out however, I agree in that it could be a lot harder, a more aggressive AI could make that a memorable boss fight.

Not feeling Alucard using a whip.

Here’s hoping for Diff modes. LOS had them, I see no reason for MercSteam to leave them out of MOF.

I’ve been playing that Castlevania Puzzle iPhone game and I forgot how much fun it is. It gets really hard once you get into the latter parts of the game. I wish there was a 2 player mode though. Arcade mode is fun, but it’d be nice to be able to play at least via Bluetooth.

Also been trying to 110% LoS1 and I’m at about 92+%. I hope they port MoF to a console (PS3 please?) cuz I don’t plan on buying a 3DS and the game looks pretty tight.

Yea…me either. The teleport is nice though.

They could have had Alucard use his sword and shield for block, parry, counter setups. Kind of annoyed since both Gabriel and Simon use whips it would have been nice to see a little different gameplay from him.

god, Castlevania 64 is freaking ridiculous. Who thought it would be fun to do that exploding jar shit? Seriously? there is so much to like about this game that it’s a shame the fun gets sabotaged at every possible instance.

I know Legacy of Darkness is “better”…but is it more fun at least? i don’t know how they expected you to do the jar shit or even the garden maze without a walkthrough.

He should definitely have a sword. I’m really let down by this news. I don’t even want to watch the video.

Ok only complaint on MoF
Not long enough
13 hours 100% complete.

Restarting on a higher difficulty.

Best 3ds game period and best soundtrack i have heard in years bar none.
Get headphones to play.

That’s a stretched out image(the Dawn of Sorrow one)…

Screenshot doesn’t do it justice to how it really looks…

EDIT: Also has anyone other than me 100% Dawn of Sorrow for the DS… that shit took a year of faithful play to collect every soul(maxing out every soul by collecting all 9 copies for everything, and forging all weapons) and beat all of the possible modes…

There was such TOO much to do… Dawn of Sorrow definitely goes down as my favorite metroidvania… it was more or less an action rpg but who the fuck cares when it’s a game THAT good…

I’ve played them all and they look like booty.

Playing LoI for the first time and its pretty fun.
Some minor complaints, but nothing that really hampers my fun.

My favorite Iga Castlevania honestly. That games cool if you bother to dig into it. The Relics and orbs are dope, elemental whips are cool, and shit that game even has a parry in it.

It’s not the best game ever made but it’s got a lot going for it, lot of good ideas, some of them we wouldn’t really see again till like Bayonetta even.

I wish that Nocturne in the Moonlight (SOTN for the Sega Saturn) would be re-released. Konami would make bank while making their fans happy. In other news, I really need to finish Lords of Shadow soon.

Why when we have access to the better SOTN on multiple modern platforms?

Insert MecurySteam not bribing IGN joke Insert generalized statement about the retardation of critics

I only played the demos of LoS and MoF but judging based on the MoF demo I doubt it’s as bad as this review trashes it to be, in fact very few games are, because in order for a game to get 4/10 from me it must be functionally somewhat unplayable as well as not fun. I loved MoF demo although God of War is one of my favorite franchises so I’m a bit biased, definitely copping both games later this year.

I’m surprised none of the reviews that I’ve read on metacritic have mentioned that maybe after 3 fuckin metroidvanias on the DS, some fans might want a different type of CV. But most basically amount to “not metroidvania so it’s inferior by default”, and I think it’s a piss poor mindset as a professional critic to be biased to the point of not being able to judge a game on its own merit. Also I’m surprised there isn’t more discussion on MoF now that it’s out.
