The Cartoons and Animation Thread

This is so dumb. Lol.
I get why people want POC to be represented in all mediums. It’s important to have that connection with people. I’m all for that 100%.

But are we just now going to segregate all the industries because reasons? That’s doo doo stupid.

Sorry, I do not accept anybody else playing Cleveland, just write the character off or preferably NOT recast :man_facepalming:t5:

so…in the future all kinds of peeps will have to wonder if they got hired because they were talented and skilled, or they were a quota hire/check-mark on a statistic. :man_facepalming:

I’m liberal but this is stupid as heck.
Cree Summer, Kimberly Brooks, Keith David, Phil Lamarr, et al are going to have trouble making ends meet.

Frank Welker will have to wear masks and walk on all fours for auditions lol.

I think this is a proper disclaimer…

The Simpsons in on this dumbfuckery now

I’m conflicted . . . should I let the performative wokeness play out or tell white people this is not the hill I need you to die on?

What is YT?

I get that, but for example, Jenny Slate leaving “The Big Mouth” just seemed a bit excessive. What I am worried about is similar how cancel culture is out here ethering everything with reckless abandon. Are we now going to make an industry change that character’s outward appearance must match the person playing them. Given the state of things, I could easily see this going the wrong way.

I personally believe it’s a corporate move but it feels like shes implying they are doing this on their own volition. I have seen something similar in acting pre George floyd

Here are my main concerns I just replied to her and I’m gonna wait to see how she responds:

Kathy Henagan I guess my conrerns are kinda this :

-the industry has changed alot and animation has changed alot. But poc are still so limited in their roles. Their are still not alot of characters of color… It’s way better than say 10-15 years ago. But American animation wise it’s still gonna be predominantly a white space. Then anime is also getting way better but in general and you tell me if I’m wrong most are gonna be done by white people unless they have a blaintant non-asian slant to the character.

-another worry is how companies will justify if say a group of racists come at people like Phil Lamarr who’s known to do white and black voices. Whos legit a hero for alot of poc who love animation. When you see white people leaving roles of color… They will come for poc actors.

-will shows now get rid of these characters? Will they be replaced. Theirs such a dynamic with someone like cleveland and such a unique voice I legit don’t think I’d want someone else to do it. But now do we shoehorn another character of color? Or do we take him out and just have a bunch of white dudes on TV?

I just worry this is a pandoras box that maybeee didn’t need to be opened. I’m not against the idea I don’t know. I just worry about the potential blow backs.

Ok, but what does YT mean?

Someone already asked that above. White people
