Yeah, I tried going thru some of the math for a system, designing my own cross-overs, trying to take into account the physics of the car, etc…its possible, but no where NEAR worth the effort. Its too difficult to get the formulas for ‘each’ driver without the proper setup or someone force feeding you their equations.
As for the auto-test, you’d end up with two test I’d think the - the SPL one - which would be a series of tones, and the intelligability one, where it would send some type of noise - I think it pink noise thru the system to analyze how each driver responds and how it sounds. I’m guessing you want a range in the top 3%…but I’ve never done that kind of work on a car its been audio work for my job heh. I’m curious how much I could snag a setup for…
true that. Designing passive crosovers is difficult. That’s why on most high end component sets the crossover is the most expensive and crucial part. The real bueaty of that imprint system is it gives the average consumer a realistic soundstage without having to be an audio engineer.
Well crossover design in itself isn’t difficult if you know what parameters your looking for, its just hard as hell to find the quality componenets, and when you do their expensive. as you try and get better and better sound though you end up with 3rd and 4th-order crossovers, which if its a Linkwitz-Riley…yeah…its easier to prgram into an EEPROM and filter digitally. Sigh I miss my signals and processing classes/work. good stuff.
Ayo, can you order products from the manufacturer at BB? I remember back in the day where MMHU’s where the newest thing, but you had to order them out the book and didn’t have them in stores (MMHU - Multimedia Head Units). The reason why I am asking is cause the sound shop here stopped selling Alpine decks (bastards) and I want to check the video quality on my ipod with the W505.
for the rear…no. for the front its debatable…it depends on the qulaity of the drivers made by that manufacturer. Nothing does a betterj ob then just listening to them though. try to find a local shop with a decent number of brands and try listening to the differences.
I have a 05 Honda Civic and i plan on replacing the back speakers. I’ve heard its a pain in the ass to do since you have to literally take out the whole backseat just to get to the speakers.
Is there another way of doing it without taking out the seat?
image dynamics is far from no name. look up their idmax subs if you want to do some research.
ive got the phoenix rsd’s and theyre ok. i havent heard anything else but for 70 bucks im content. i would like to eventually put some rainbows or some image dynamics components in my doors though.
I don’t recall for that model, is that the one where al teh civics look like the old Civic SI hatchbacks iun the front? Ya know the real triangle looking front? The easy way to tell would be to look in your trunk and see how accessible the speakers are, then see if you need to remove any matting to access the correct screws, IF you have to remove the matting on the rear deck, then there prolly is something to do with bringing the rear seats down, but total removal seems a bit much.
I guess I am getting grown now, cause even though my system can roll cancel most of this weak shit I hear in the streets, I don’t bang like I used to anymore I’ve started to do my pre-lim search for a new whip and more than likely I will not be able to put a 3rd party deck into the dash, especially since some of the newer model cars are getting decent systems with a iPod connection (thats a MUST).
What do you guys think of Rockford Fosgate? I’m thinking of buying a Lancer GTS, but Mistubishi don’t really give you much flexibility in terms of the options, it’s either all or nothing.
Bear in mind I’m not the type to go driving down the street listening to shitty music on crank just to irritate the fuck out of onlookers.
