The car sound system thread a.k.a I GOT KING KONG IN THE TRUNK!

The one and only!!

Yeah I test drove that model a few years ago, thats how I know I fit - there is enough leg room for me. the problem with the tC is how the seats were actually engineered. I ‘almost’ fit in the tC’s seats, but the plastic that comes up to the steering wheel beats up my knees. and yes the tC is a lil bigger, but hey the Mini-cooper so far has the most room of almost any car I’ve sat in.

The rims I want have a little chrome, but its more accent. I’d actually prefer machined metal to chrome. MAbye when I get home tonyte I’ll find them and pull it up.

Anyone have exp. with Pioneer comps? I’ve been looking at these, they seem ok for the price.

Edit: Nvm, I think I’m just gonna get the PG RSD set. This thread sold me on them, haha.

…WTF

When did Newegg start selling Car Audio?!?!?!?!?

LOl they’ve had car audio for a while now. Nothing major, they can’t really pull much from the crutchfield crowd.

BTW I decided to take the plunge on an all alpine setup up front, Type R componenets and 6.5s. I already have the four channel and the head-unit alpine. The woofer is Rockford HX2 powered by a Rockford amp spittin 400W RMS @ 4 Ohmsnot peak, and a 1 Farad cap (RF also). This should get me by for now, and I’ll do the other work as I get the chance. I’m stil ldebating putting full power to my sub, its rated for 100 more watts RMS, and typically the Rockfords of that generation pefore they went plastic were really designed for 100 watts more than they were rated for, so I should be pushing 550-600W RMs to it instead of 400, but that upgrade would hit me kinda steep as a decent amp with that kind of power is another 250-300 with an upgrade in wiring, and in that circumstancce I might as well put both subs in there, so I’d need a new box and a 1200 W RMS @ 4 amp. Was thinking of getting the work done this week/weekend. I can’t even FIND a box with even close to the right amount of air-prebuilt. Custom enclosure cost too much and I don’t have the craftsman ship I’d want for it. Here’s to hoping my next whip can fit this stuff in it lol.

well it looks like i found something that i am the top athority on in these forums. i didnt expect there to be such few people interested in car audio in here. i figured arcade games and high end audio go hand in hand. i want to debut my mobile theatre here for the first time.the best way to describe it is a full blown home theatre on wheels that is capable of recreating exactly what the artist intended at concert volume levels for an unlimited amount of time without any stress on the components or the vehicle. here are 2 links 1 is to my sounddomain page where it breaks everything down for you, and the second is a picassa album full of pics that show pretty much everything there is in there. please leave me some feedback.

Damn son, u went all out. I wish I had the patience to do a project.

thanks, ya it took awile to finish. it was a slow continuous job that spanned like 6 months. I trove around with everything behind the front 2 seats ropes out for like a month. Its great seeing the velet guys face when he opens the door on a nice car and realizes that 70% of the interior is missing.

Man, I STILL haven’t put in my eD components for the fronts. The headunit I have doesn’t really allow for a lot of customization in sound (Pioneer Avic-D3). Hopefully within one or two weekends, I should be able to get them put in and sound-deadened.

Getting the Alpine IVA-W505 soon (a couple of months)…thats about it

you will love that alpine. I played with it at CeS and its fantastic. I would have used it had it been out when I did my install. I would sugest adding the pxa- h701 processor mainly because of the time correction it provides and the independent controll of 8 channells. It will take you from king kong in the trunk to having a live band setup on your hood.

Hot damn, I didnt know they made external EQ’s…geezbus! I think I can get the whole package (HU, BT and EQ) for about 1200 if I play my cards right, I also need the 40 buck splitter to watch videos while driving (not off the break though, cause I dont really have many yet):woot:

Yeah they do, I’ve been eyeing McIntosh for a few years now…but in the scheme of thigns if you don’t sit there and really tune it or pay someone to tune it or do some form of RTA/STI testing its wasted money. Also built in EQs are typically more than enough for 99.9999% of the population.

Sigh…I’ve always wanted Xtant amps…powering JBL WGT13s…with Xtant powering some JL components for my front stage. I have yet to find a head-unit that I truly love though. I’ve always settled…but NO ONE gets it right. The Alpine XA-100 for instance…beautiful screen, yet the album art is the size of a DIME. The double din units pick the worse possible menu layouts and looks. I also still want the McIntosh EQ 10V pre-out goodness aint nothing to laugh at…but its all a dream, I don’t have the money for any of that so long as my carnote is dragging me down.

BTW this little blurb slipped past most…JVC is merging with Kenwood…well they did. Kenwood will take over the Car-Audio stuff this includes Dual and I believe Jensen, while JVC will take over the home audio market, this makes them the biggest audio company. Maybe JVC head units will last more than 2 years now.

:u: FOR REAL?! Wow. Here’s hoping the quality will go up with both brands.

Main reason I am getting the 505 is cause it displays album art and is touch screen. I havent seen it in person, but when I do I want to see how the interface is. I will adapt to it as is, cause I can finally use my 80 GB iPod with it.

Also, heard a tidbit that you can hook up a HDD to the alpine as well, it will play music and videos from it. It thats true, I will have a 1 TB external in the ride hidden somewhere with EVERYTHING I need on it. :woot::lovin:

i have an rta and an ociliscope that i used to tune the pxah701 with. it took a few weeks to get it right . just imagine time correcting, level balancing and adjusting 31 bands of eq for 8 individual channells. and i had to do it twice. once for cd/ipod and the second time for dvd audio. the thing has 6 presets so you can store tunes for different applications.

Yep, I can imagine…and thats exactly why its not worth it for most people heh. Is it worth it for some…definatly…but average joe won’t even be able to really tell the difference until its ‘done’…and then will bitch about the cost of everything hell most people want to just grab a sub and cll it a day…sigh.

As for the merger…I dunno Kenwood Car Audio used to be a good bang for buck, but its really gone down the toilet over the past few years…;ess innovation, weaker features, and as they tried to make thier units cheaper…it showed. JVC…I swear they have a time bomb coded in their head-units…two years after installation they ‘typically’ go ‘boom’. I don’t think the merger is really going to benefit either company…Kenwood wil lget a little more power in their head units from the JVC power supply, and JVCs wil lget smoother MP3 playback…they’ll prolly keep the brands seperate and turn Kenwood into their ‘high-end’ brand with JVC as the middle brand and Dual/Jensen as the cheap shit/holiday set.

And as for the Alpine head unit…find a picture of the ‘album art’ before that sells you on the unit. Seriously. I was so dissappointed when I saw that the screen was an exact replica of the iPod screen, so it was literally the size of a dime…hardly worth buying a new head unit for. As for the external hdd…I’d never do it if it used iPod’s horrible menu system. Do you realize how many tags you’d have to clean up? Scrolling thru my entire collection would be so ridiculously long that the practicality of it would be nil. Give me a 160-320G iPod and I can call it a day…anything more than that is just WWWWAAAAAYYY to much ‘scrolling’.

hey i just remembered. alpine just came out with the imprint processor at ces this year. it basically does everything the pxa-h701 does except the 5.1 processing. but it does it automatically. there is a little mic you put where your head would be and it auto timecorrects and eq’s all the channells automatically. so you get the godlike sound reproduction of the 701 without the 3 months of tuning. check it out ive heard it and it awesome.

Yeah I had read about it, thoguh I was thinking it was for ‘stock’ system adjustment, like the RF Tech one. But just like digital cameras - I’m curious who decides what the ‘default’ settings should be. I mean you can go for a combonation of intelligability and SPL, but everyone’s ears are a little different.

the rep told me that basically they pairs with some company I forgot who and they designed some algorythem that micro analyses and adjusts something lime 500 points on the audio spectrum to create the optimum sound. But after it does its thing you can tweak it to your liking and store like 6 presets. Its geared toward pure sq. I imagine it plays a tone then tries to get it as close to flat while compensating for munsen curve and other things beyond my understanding. It is geared towards keeping your stock head and replacing everything else. But they have stand alone UNITA and heads with it built in also.
