If you choose to run the singles tournament, pls do so AFTER the Team Tourney is done.
That way people who want to stay late can join the singles tourney … and the people who want to leave early can do so as well (since all the available stations will be made available for the team tourney)

basically you have a team order for your players, and the other team has some order.
the first players play each other, and the winner stays on, then 2nd player from the losing team plays, and so forth until all the members of one team is defeated.
so an example is:
Team ABC vs Team 123
Player A vs Player 1, Player A wins
Player A vs Player 2, Player 2 wins
Player B vs Player 2, Player 2 wins
Player C vs Player 2, Player C wins
Player C vs Player 3, Player C wins = Team ABC wins.
Can we make it 10 dollar entry fees instead of 5?

Dino: Nobody is questioning your Tournament Directing skills. We are just concerned about time constraints. I’d say if we start Teams at 2p, the tourny will end at 6-7p the most. Let me handle Teams as per discussion before and after that tourny, you can run singles. I’m really sorry that I have to leave but I already planned something at 8p that night.

Yes I to have somewhere to be in the evening so if team tourny can be ran smoothly with more t.v’s dedicated to the team tourny that would be sweet and if theres enough time for casuals of course I’ll be down, I wont be able to attend singles if singels does happen.

8 1st round + 8 2nd round + 8 3rd round + 8 SF/LF/WF/GF = 32 Matches.
32/4 = 8 Matches per TV.
Lets say each match is 15 mins. (Each Win being 1, Minimum 3 max 5, 3 mins each)
5x3=15mins x 8 Matches = 120mins per tv aka TWO HOURS WITH 4 TVS
What everyone is VERY CONFUSED ABOUT is that they think we will be there until 8 or 9.
At 2.5 hours the Teams could start 2:30 and be done by 5:00

2.5 hours is a very low estimation. For 16 teams, I calculate that it will take about 5 hours to finish completely. Please read below:
For a double elimination bracket a total of (2n-1) matches will be played. Since we have 16 teams, there will be a total of 31 matches (not 32).
(2*16)-1 = 31
Remember that the last 3 matches (Winner’s Final, Loser’s Final and Grand Final) can not be done in parrellel, they are done in series (one after another). At this point in the tourney, only 1 TV station will be used.
So that means only 28 matches can be run paralell across 4 stations.
(31-3 = 28)
If each match goes the distance, (ie 5 matches) and assume that 1 match takes 5 mins (this is conservative, you assumed only 3 mins) then that is 25 mins per match.
25 mins * 28 matches = 700 mins
700 mins / 4 stations = 175 mins or ~ 3 hrs
Then by adding the finals matches:
3 hrs <------ I suppose if you wanted, at this point you could begin the singles tourney. But then people will not be able to watch the finals matches.
4.25 hours
Then add 20% safety margin:
~5 hours
So to be on the safe side, I would budget 5 hours or so for the team tourney to completely finish. If we start at 3pm ish … then that means things will wrap up by 8pm … this of course assumes everything runs 100% efficient and we know from past tournies that this is not always the case.

i completely agree with this. $5 for team tournament is definitely too little. I vote to have $10 from now on, since everything is on a inflation, i don’t see why tournament entrance is still only $5.

2nd place = 225*0.2 = 45/3 = $15
perhaps in the future if the entry fee is $10 than more ppl would wanna join… especially for team tournamnet where the money is divided in 3
PS. Dino + Neo Russel should charge a buck or two venue fee per person for their hardwork for the planning and organizing. Let us not forget how much more work are needed to be put in for console tournament compare to arcade.

He doesn’t want to listen to my input and it’s not worth my while to get worked up over it. He came to me on MSN yesterday evening and basically said “it’s my tourney, I’ll do what I want.” You can’t argue with that kind of mentality. I have 7 years of directing under me but it’s not enough to at least warrant listening to, nevermind heeding. So whatever, let him go nuts with whatever scenario he feels is best. As I said before, I wish Russell and Dino all the best as all I’ve ever been interested in is the best interest of the scene.
